I took my test last week and I got 8. I understood, There’s literally nothing to worry. If you can speak English, you can do the speaking test. It’s that simple. Don’t stress urself with too many tips or high vocabulary etc. Imagine u r speaking to just a random person in English. That’s it. You’ll get 7 for it. All the best

I had scored a 9 in speaking and trust me it is quite possible to get a 9. It is about your presence of mind, your clarity of speech and thoughts. Also the responses shouldn't sound memorised but rather spontaneous as well as genuine. The candidate is calm, confident and grounded. One of those deserving videos to justify a 9 I have seen in a long time.

So well organised speech! Such a constant and logical flow. I wonder if I ever will be that fluent. I am about to have my exam, and feel soo stressed. Had a few MOK tests and when I was required to speak I was struggling like I have never spoke in English before. The feeling was dreadful and I can imagine the examiners surprise witnessing the same person who is so fluent in informal conversation being struggling for words in their exam.

@@rakhpreetkaur7951 there are two ways to do it but first 3 paras can be the same. The introduction can be general, Second para can be about reasons why you are in favour of the statement (with examples, use connectors, too) then third para can be against it or expressing disagreement/disadvantages. The fourth and last para can be the conclusion. It is the conclusion that can be different. You can either show your choice by stating - that advantages far outweigh disadvantages or vice Versa. OR you can keep the conclusion a general one stating- in a nutshell it all depends upon the factors prevalent/ it varies from Person to person / etc (not taking any particular stand)

Dekho, a lot depends upon the topic. If a topic is a neutral one like “life in the city can be dull and boring” then you can easily make your conclusion neutral too- All in all, we can say that there are both pros and cons of living in a city. At the the end of the day, it depends upon the person residing in the city and it is his personal choice that matters

Indian examiners are far more strict about scores than english examiners. Not to say you won’t get a band 9, but there will always be something you would miss. A simple ‘emm’ ‘aaa’ type fillers will bring your score 0.5 marks down, which the student in the video has used a lot.

@Colette In general I go for standard Cambridge books. They are good enough. However, if you are asking in context of speaking test, then I don't have any standard book. However I tried two things: i) Pick an apt IELTS Topic, then Open MS Word, turn on the dictation. Now do not look at the screen and start speaking on the topic. Once you are done, analyze the script on the screen. It will help you understand if you need to work on fluency and coherency as you will notice the blabbering if you do that a lot. Misplaced words will tell you about your grammar and pronunciation mistakes. ii) there are generally 4-5 categories of topics you are likely to get in actual exam. Create a 4 bullet point broad outline which suits most of them. That outline should be able to help you exploit your current vocab already known to you. So that you don't get stuck when searching for a word. Always remember to circle back as soon as you feel you have started blabbering. Look at the topic cards, look at the outline and try to circle back to a specific bullet point. It will help with your coherency. Most importantly : Once you go in the speaking test room, never ever get into exercise mode, where you start analyzing your last spoken phrase or sentence by yourself while in middle of an answer. You are likely to miss your train of thoughts or make more mistakes if you do that. The preparation time is already over once you enter the room. So relax and speak in forward mode and not in the exercise mode. Exercise time is over.

Tbh her 9 on the IETLS would be a 4 IRL, where you have to navigate the intricacies of different accents and social strata. The instructor speaks RP English which accounts for 1% of the population. The best way forward is always lived experience. US people from a disadvantaged background can learn way more than those trust fund kids, due to the authentic experience and adversities we have to face, while trying to establish ourselves. Also try as much as you can to hang out with locals, challenge yourself with literature, watch comedies, get a job in a customer facing role. Again those words of wisdom are aimed at folks like myself. The go-getters, the leader of tomorrow. It's a different story for those who can afford private English classes since an early age. Here you have it. Upward and onward!
