That's exactly what happens. People from wealthy backgrounds can afford to take obscure degrees like art history, PPE, medieval history, etc. They move through the world without that background anxiety that a lot of people have.

Community college is free in many states, my sister is 28, going to be a teacher, all her education is paid for. We are from NJ.

Colleges are pricing themselves out of business. As Tazzy explained here, we are reaching an inflection point where the cost to attain a college degree is not worth the return on investment. This opens up new avenues of learning that employers will soon have to accept as alternatives to college degree holders, for the simple fact that if they insist on only having college graduates they simply will not have enough applicants to fulfil their needs.

In some countries like France going to public universities cost pennies, I many have friends who studied in France - almost for free but now they are working in Canada or United States. They colleagues were shocked they didnt have student loans.

I'm frome France and I literally went to school for fun. I liked Japan and wanted to learn the language, so I majored in Japanese language studies during university because I liked it, not because of some career aspirations. Al hamduliLlah for this blessing.
