#roguewarriors this video is about kosa dori ikkyo like you've never seen before. For the first time instructing together, Lenny Sly and Bob Kamka share ideas taking ikkyo to a whole another level. Sly an Kamka go back and fourth building from one technique to the next. This is truly a great way to explore where you can develop a lot of different variations of this kosa dori ikkyo application. This video completely show why sly and kamka are #takingaikidoback in a huge way. No one in aikido is brining to you better than them!

Reasons yo can get your wrists grabbed: 1) you are trying to walk away and they decide to stop you 2) you have your hands extended in front of you to show that you are not agresive and they decide to grab the wrist to pull them away or down to strike you 3) they are grapplers, you dont have a gi and you are in a long distance(therefore, they cant get a grip on your elbow/bicep) 4) they are trying to go for a Wristlock or trapping themself 5) you are a child and your mom doesnt want you to crosd the streets

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate your "no bullshit" approach. I first began my Aikido studies back in '91. I instantly fell in love (yeah, I said it... I fucking fell in love) with the blending of energy that this art teaches us. I am fortunate that I have a Sensei who teaches ,as you do, very practical Aikido technique vs. the bullshit "smoke and mirrors" that can be found in some Aikido dojos. I admire the variations you are sharing... Fucking bad ass! I hope to make it to your school some day. Unfortunately, a regular commute from Arizona would be above my pay grade...lol. For now, I will learn from you via KZbin. Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge. Ki be with you.

So the attacker performs this utterly weird reach-across thing where he turns and leaves his left side exposed only to get a grip on your left wrist that he then does nothing in particular with. Sure. Then again, once you get somebody to do something that stupid, you can probably also perform Aikido on them.

A.h.k there are two different distinct levels of martial arts use. One is for use is fast moments with unprepared or in trained people. Aikido and hapkido fall into these categories. The next is for use in protracted combat and against trained fighters these are your boxing and judo arts. They are now near as precise but they are also much simpler. ( less room to go wrong) if you can only do one you should train the second it if you can do both it doesn’t hurt your training too much.

jon doe I don’t think you know the Judo belt system. And as far as effective I’m gonna need you to stand up from your butt scooting before you can lecture me on effectiveness. You haven’t actually refuted any of my points you simply said I was wrong. I have provided evidence for my case, and a counter to your claim that I have no experience. All you’ve done is say that I’m wrong so I will give you a bit more evidence and let the matter go. What are the two most common ko strikes and submission holds in mma ( which is clearly the best way to test what works against resisting opponents) lead hook, rear straight, armbar, and RNC. What do these things have in common. ( they are reasonably simple moves that work. What don’t you see. Spinning head kicks and omoplatas. Why? Because there is too much room for things to go wrong. In fact the fact that the best in the world can do them and have them work. Isreal Adasanya and big Nog come to mind. Is what makes them so amazing. Simple works often and complex works against little resistance. Simple as that.

You clearly identify as training aikid. But how do you distinguish between aikido and aikijutsu? If i were to watfh this without sound i'd think it was aikijutsu. So how do you define the two styles? And what is it that makes your style still aikido, as opposed to aikijutsu?
@PhilipZeplinDK
@PhilipZeplinDK 5 жыл бұрын
Apart from a few specific techniques found in each, there isn't any real difference between Aikijujutsu and Ueshibas Aikido. Ueshiba called his Aikido "Aikijujutsu" well into the years of training people, the name change just came later. Obviously styles have varied more since then, but if you look at the few rare examples of footage of O' Sensei, and the few rare examples of old Daito Ryu footage, you'd see it's basically the same stuff.

People mock aikido thinking that it’s no good in a street fight. First off, there would never be a fight because the second you try to grab, shove or punch an aikido master, basically at this point he’s already wrecking you into submission and there’s no way in hell that he’ll let you try again. Aikido master, don’t need to attack, because he uses the attackers own energy combined with lightning speed to stop his aggressor. And that folks is the ultimate martial art form. Its not perfect so aikido masters learn other martial arts. If your still not convinced well be my guest and try to punch a master aikido. Good luck

7:35 There are very good reasons not to do this. It's very difficult to execute a kick to the ribs correctly from this position (as arm's reach is really too close for this kick). Watch as his center falls back in the kick. That's not a good kick. A good kick has an advancing center, which is hard to accomplish as you are still attempting to gain control, which is the entire point of the kick (to loosen up his center). Now if you already have control (demonstrated by uke's hand on the ground), you can kick them no problem, but otherwise, you're risking this ending up on the ground as you give up your center to attempt a less than optimum kick to the ribs. One should remember, the attacker has momentum and a second arm available, and you're lifting your foot off the ground to put it into his immediate reach, why risk it when it's not needed? If you do want to kick him, it's better to kick the knee. You could fold and/or break the joint, and it will be a faster kick since the target is closer to your foot (less time to react to it and you have your full center back sooner), it will require less articulation and thus less modification to your center (which means you're more stable, and you are telegraphing less through your physical connection), the striking point will be further from the guy's hand which will serve to confound his attempts to grab the foot (if he even realizes you're kicking him, since your center is moving less, and the kick is happening faster). 7:58 This is an even worse idea. What's the point of this? I don't need my knee to apply pressure to the elbow. Why would you even want to do this? Because the attacker is just "oh so strong you need your leg"? If you need your knee to complete this technique, then you need both of your feet on the ground to stabilize your center. Besides, anyone halfway competent with ikkyo really ought to be able to produce ungodly force with just their hands. The first part of this variation at least made a little sense, stomp kicking the ribs will certainly have an effect (assuming all goes well), but this last part is simply showing off for the sake of showing off and not only that it's dangerous to practice. In a real fight, you might lose your balance away from your attacker, which results in him on top of you. (Not good.) In the dojo, you might lose your balance toward uke, and accidentally break his elbow in the tumble. (The odds of which increase rapidly as you heat up your practice.) Injuries happen, especially if your truly training, but I've had students hurt each other playing grab ass, and it's no fun taking someone to the hospital over a situation which could have and should have been avoided, and which provided no value to either student. Just because your legs are involved doesn't automatically make it better. This variation "looks" more violent, but it really isn't producing net value. Otherwise, fantastic presentation! Thank you.

Great job. When you're bringing that knee down, there's also another option from a San Soo move breaking the arm.

I would like to see the two instructors do these techniques on each other! Just so that they would know not to go so hard on their students in bending their fingers and arms!

improper distance/ too far away ..... a kick or a punch from that distance works. You have to be much closer for a knee, then uke could punch you right in the snot box for being to close.

You are trying to look badass, but using techniques against a not resisting oponent. You may argument that you will not be atacked by trained fighters on the street, but even the most untrained fighter is a resisting one. So, nothing pratical to see here.

Have you ever trained aikido or anything similar? I have. For a short time. I'm not sure how effective these techniques are in real fight but I can tell you one thing. When you get to that position, someone applies a technique correctly and makes pressure on your elbow or wrist, resistance is painful. I know that. I felt that pain when I tried to resist. Just the point is not to follow that, if someone's technique isn't correct. You can feel that. But if it is, you can feel that you can get something broken, if you resist. Of course no one will break someone's joint or arm in the training but you can feel it's possible.

@@pasjonatpl yes i have trained AIKIDO and when the technique connects it works, the problem is that those techniques are called low percentage techniques because are very very difficult to connect on a resisting opponent. It is very likely that you will be defeat before you can connect some aikido technique in perfection.

Good video. I have two issues with it. 1) Like so many videos on Aikido, uke begins by bending forward and going for nage's wrist or center rather than standing up straight and throwing punches at nage's face, like a real attacker. 2) Doesn't interpolating striking techniques into a rougher, simpler, more realistic Aikido basically just make it into Hapkido? Sombody correct me if I am wrong.
