Quite evident they respectfully carry on the legacy and tradition of their matriarch. I imagine every single thing is done to her exact specifications. That’s respectful and very honorable. The work efficiently and with spirit and joy carrying out things the way grandmother would.

I would love to try each one of your dishes as they look and appear so tasty but It may be hard to find your menu in the middle of North Dakota, USA. One of the most enjoyable videos I have ever seen and I will watch for more of your family's future videos. Thank you and continued good luck and success.

I grew up in a family of Chinese immigrants who came to California in the late 70s. The family built up slowly from working odd jobs until they opened up their own restaurant, a small Chinese to-go shop, Shanghai style. Business expanded and eventually the whole family was involved, but the second generation (my father and his siblings) struggled and could not keep it together. By the time I was in ten, the family had restaurants, retail toy stores and large moving company called Wongs Brothers. Like I said though, the second gen couldn't stay civil and professional. Bickering and infighting flared up, fanned on by each brother's respective wife like a good devil on their shoulder. It all came apart soon after, mass divorce, adultery, thievery and violence. The family has never been the same. I say this only to point out why this small Japanese restaurant under the grandmother is such an important story for us all. Not all small business thrive, not all immigrants prosper and not all lives have happy endings. Keeping harmony and building a real family that is founded on unbreakable bonds is a sacred thing, a lost art truly. My family and myself included, was not so fortunate to have the joy and craftsmanship to showcase like this video. It's quite the opposite, I'll save the horror story for another time. But wow, this is beautiful and as my grandmother's grandson, I salute and admire this. I wish I had it. I tried. I was the lone rebel in a sea of infamy and criminality. I couldn't believe it. I'm still a great cook today...but once, we were all united under one roof. Funny, when we struggled, we did it together and well. When we made it, we unleashed our own dark daemons and it all came apart forever. Tragic. People before profits. Reputation before revenue. Personal honor and dignity over everything because self-respect, is the ultimate currency, accepted everywhere. Cause if not, what happens? Easy. I'll just give you the status of my family members: Dad - 2x Divorced, Broke, Self-Medicates with 2-4 packs of tobacco a day. Former business partner with younger brother for a large trucking company they founded. Later builds his own trucking company fleet. Gets hamstrung my wife when she empties his bank accounts. He loses everything in a divorce, even his commercial driving license for missed child support payments. Emotionally dies and stays there for the rest of his life. Has a son (me) and 3 daughters across two shattered families. Mother - Divorced, emptied dad's bank accounts prior to divorce, kidnapped kids (me), starts a 20 year affair with dad's youngest staff member (just to rub salt in it) Uncle - Exiled from the USA for international felonies, high level government official, Human Traffick3r, partnered with his sister. Ran a large trucking business with his older brother. Ambitious, left the USA to return to China. Ultimately made fortunes doing hum@n tr@fficking. Graduated into the ranks of the CCP. Expands into the Pearl River Delta (Hong Kong + Macau). Eventually becomes a major player in Macau. Aunt - Partnered with her brother. Extroverted Asian beauty, she was the sexpot, the closer, the power broker. Jailed on both sides of the ocean, snitched and bribed her way out. Hobbies include fine wine and credit card fraud. Grandmother - The matriarch that rules the family with an iron schizo and bipolar grip. Her father was a rich Shanghainese man with land and businesses. Plus 4 wives for 17 children, amazing for the roaring 1920s of the Orient. Later, Japanese occupation and Communists would plunder the family. Teenage grandmother goes survives the Cultural Revolutions and Great Leaps into repeated famines...yet never forget the childhood of wealth and luxury...she seeks to recreate that through her children, hence the criminal bent of all three of her kids. Grandfather - A kind and courteous man with no spine. His wife runs him over at every turn. He just stays tame and works all the time. Aside from gardening, he just enjoys working. And... Me. Long story. But yea, I r-e-a-l-l-y appreciate a beautiful family business like this done by pride, joy and shared experiences.
