That's a really common problem and the thing I needed to understand to get past that problem was that: today's results don't come from today's work. We are so used to getting rewarded instantly from scrolling on social media that when we do something like working (that doesn't reward us instantly) we stop working when we don't see any results. Social media train our brain to get used to instant rewards. Have patience, meditate and lower your social media consumption is my best answer to your question.

Choose discipline over motivation, try the 21 day rule. You need 21 days to create a habit in your life. Try doing the work for continuous 21 days, doesn't matter whether you do it for few minutes or few hours just do it everyday. After 21 days it automatically becomes a habit, no need for motivation after that. Just be consistent and prefer discipline.

Your video is something I wished was made a few months ago. I've been the guy who tried to do more without removing things from the already fixed schedule. I Never made progress. It took me 4 months of failure to realize you can't improve before removing the useless stuff you do throughout the day. Your point is 100% accurate I've been both guys the one you speak about in the beginning and the one after the music's changed. It took me 4months to realize and now I'm making progress. It would've saved me 4 months if this video was made earlier. If anyone is reading this trust it. You first need to remove thing from your list than you should add thing you may have a lot of empty space on your To-do list but you don't have empty time in your day. And another point to mention, watching these productivity videos and motivational video may feel good but you don't make progress until you start working. That's the difference between motivation and discipline. Be disciplined and start improving

I genuinely feel like social media is bringing more harm than good. You not only mindlessly scroll reels or posts from time to time, but also get insecure from seeing how successful and ideal other people are (at least how they seem) It's definitely good advice to spend less time on social media For entertainment I'd prefer watching videos like this to not only relax myself but also be inspired

I’ll argue that ; doing a little progress on a lot of things isn’t necessarily bad. It’s true that it require a huge amount of dedication and obsession to specialize and actually become the best at what you do. But it also means a very unbalanced life, where the most of what you do goes to that special thing you want to undertake, and it can leads to a lot of negativity in your life if you delay some important aspects as your social life, your relationships, and some things you may like. You may need to put your all in a endeavor from time to time (especially when you’re young) for it to work, you may need to focus for years to get where you want to be, but don’t forget there isn’t just one path to a better life and if you don’t want to spend your energy on only one thing, you can find happiness in balancing all your interests within your life. I actually find it better to live this way
@kkounal974

Not only that it assumes that they are all independent. They're not. You could be spending some time doing thing X and it might actually help you pass a conceptual impasse that was required in order to get better at thing Y faster than if you devoted all your time doing Y. You can't just throw time at things and expect propositional improvement in all cases and in all phases. Seems to me like projection with calling things bs multiple times yet having the most naive model possible really.

This is incredibly true. Those "self-help", "daily productivity" videos do make good points but they miss the sheer effect of overwhelming yourself with tasks and trying to micro-manage your day-to-day. I've recently taken the approach of having a set list of things I'd like to do in a day (hobbies, study, etc.) and allocating a few minutes to these things. That way they remain fun, stimulating, and my learning and effort compounds over several days/weeks.

After a heartbreak I tried to become extremely productive, to fill all the hours of every single day and not think about that person. During the first weeks it kinda worked (although I thought about that person even while I was busy and I had trouble focusing), but then I started to feel that I was overstretching and actually not advancing in anything. I was trying to learn Italian, gym, studying, 8hr work shift, boxing, dancing, dating...aside from the usual stuff such as shopping, cooking, which also takes its time. That's when I learnt how precious is time and that unfortunately we probably won't be able to learn everything what we are interested in in our lifetime. I decided to drop everything aside from the things which were really important in terms of my future and happiness. This was about two weeks ago and my performance and overall satisfaction is much higher than before. Don't overstretch in terms of time and capacity, don't ask too much to yourself.

write down everything that you think needs to be done, you'll end up with a to-do-list. Then think about the one thing you'll know by heart is the most important thing on your list and remove everything else from the list. You've transformed your to-do-list into a success list. It's kind of liberating too as you remove all the clutter from your life you were just trying to get done to feel productive which didn't bring you any closer to your goal. In order to achieve extraordinary results in one area you must be brave enough to accept chaos in other areas.

This video really speaks to me. It's so true how we're being overstimulated and believe in the idea of working more to achieve more. That idea isn't very clear in the first place. It's amazing how much we can even do in a day but being able to focus on certain goals and areas of life can really help to produce a lot more than trying to do more of everything. Quite ironic. This very much helped to reinforce discipline and a sense of control with life. Thanks very much for these videos, they are truly helpful and refreshing in today's world!

I don't disagree at all, but I'd like to point out that it's not just the question of how many things you do. Like you mentioned, it's social media and entertainment that's a big time-waster, so if you cut that out, you're already doing fine. You can have multiple goals you're striving towards or you can focus on only one. I think that depends on the person and their situation. For me, since I struggle with creating a sense of urgency for myself, it is super important that I'm working towards multiple goals: with no deadline, making any progress is good. If I focus on a single goal (which I've tried), I get bored of it and revert back to consuming entertainment. But if I have multiple goals, I always have something meaningful to switch to. And I've found that wanting to do a lot of things in a way substitutes the sense of urgency since I want to do everything. Could I make more progress if I focused only on one goal? Of course, but it's not worth the risk in my case. I understand that in the video you're arguing that people should quit the numerous time-wasters, which I agree with, but I feel like this nuance got lost when you combined the two ideas (quitting social media and focusing on one goal). :)
@wowkekejmejjdneejenenhdht

Those are very good points actually! Also I understand the feeling of sticking to just one goal and it does feel like traversing through a single track road. It does feel a lot more enjoyable to pursue multiple goals, at least for a lot of us I'm sure. Sometimes it might just be the case where you have the time to pursue another goal anyway. Making progress in everything you like is desirable of course and it's nice to not be too restrictive with deadlines and urgency. Still, there's different ways to go about productivity like this and it's important to find a goal you like to work towards!

My current daily life consists of practicing my hobbies like drawing/guitar/reading, and my chores like studying or working out/doing cardio. I do plenty of things all things considered, I still have time for playing video games or watching a video or two sometimes. Though I think the advice 'Remove time wasters from your day' is great, I think working on multiple things and progressing slowly on them is not bad. It is true if you focus on one thing to get good at it, you will most likely get better faster. But let's be real, there are very few people that just want to do *one* thing. If studying is important for you, but you want to learn to play the guitar, or become fit. It's totally fine to do those things. Just make time for them, I found out that as I slowly fell in love with the process of doing the 10 or so things I do daily, I became less likely to waste my time doing other things. If this comment ended up getting anyone's attention, I highly suggest reading the books Atomic Habits and The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. These books gave me a lot of insight on my own journey.

I've done this for about 11 months amd its transformed my life. I'm less stressed. I have more energy. The most important project is something I work on daily and has a life of its own. All the things I was neglecting ( health, hygiene, relationships ) have improved tremendously. Imagine a cluttered dresser so packed full of things that you can't even find your favorite pieces of clothing. You also don't know what you have too much of and what you dont have enough of ( omg I only have 4 pairs of socks!! ). There's no strategy to manage it, no styles you can out together, and there's so many pieces that every bit of interaction with it is a chore. Doing less things in your life has the same effect. Greater clarity, greater peace of mind, and more energy to do the things you eant and need to do. Above all else, you become more aware of whats really important and how little time you have in your life to do the things that make you most happy. I'd also like to note that the physical aspects of your life are a reflection of your internal state. Once you exercise control over the physical aspects, the more you exercise dominion over your own mind. These benefits are life-changing. less is more.

I believe that the key lies in achieving a harmonious balance between our mind, body, and the world around us. Focusing too intently on a single goal can lead to missing out on the vast potential life has to offer - the beauty of our surroundings, the richness of the environment, the depth of love, and the excitement of variety; essentially, all the wonderful aspects of life. The issue isn't that we're doing too much; it's that we often become too absorbed in what we're doing, losing sight of everything else. While engaging with social media and entertainment is beneficial, it's crucial to avoid overindulgence. Becoming overly fixated, whether on a single task or multiple activities, is similarly limiting. It's about finding a balance and not allowing ourselves to be consumed by any one aspect of our lives.

My advice would to just be quit devices. Delete all apps (including youtube) and ONLY keep whats NECESSARY. Yes, you will be terribly bored, and miss all the excitement your used to, but what do you gain from then? what do you gain from scrolling without end? You could go clean your room, there you gain something! Or you could go sitdown for 5 mins and procrastinate on your favorite apps "What was I gonna do again?".

I think the problem is structural, in an advanced capitalist society that is getting faster and more competitive day by day we really feel the pressure to do something to keep us at the same level as the people that the media exalt. However, many times we don't realize that we just are not meant to be like that and that the 'person that has success' is a model. So, before doing something 'productive,' you shouldn't ask yourself 'how' to get it done but 'why' you're doing it in the first place. After all, if you're struggling to complete a project that you started in the first place and wanted to get done, maybe you should reconsider your priorities. Of course, this is just my opinion and does not apply to everybody, but I think it can be an interesting point for reflection for someone.

Insightful and positive videos like this is what refrains me from dropping youtube entirely. KZbin, LinkedIn and texting apps like WhatsApp are the only remaining Social Media I have and have been using for years now. You get used to it, you get satisfaction and happiness from solely using youtube and texting apps, and dedicate much more well-meant attention when using any. But ever since KZbin Shorts came around, started growing and now became a big thing in KZbin, I have been considering dropping KZbin entirely too. If needed for research I could use it as a regular website, not being logged-in as guest. The Shorts are just so bad for me, unnecessary and dumb energy-draining time spent, often spreading negativity, stupidity or creating unnecessary desires. Tired of robot voices and often spreading misinformation, just as easy as it is. It’s better to live without and find entertainment and information else where. I still have to make the final decision to leave this place and take the step though.

Edit: regarding focus on one thing yes, but on leadership positions like doing business you gotta master being able to handle general stuff that makes your business work, as if like a conductor--you don't need to be a master of every instrument, you just need to be able to make harmony of such complex different things to make what's called "music."

Hey guys, just a heads up. He’s half right. Yes I also agree social media and entertainment is a contributing factor to procrastination and it’s important to cut it out if it’s interfering with your progress. But it’s just as bad going all in on your work without something else to occupy your time. My advice. Have a hobby or multiple hobbies that doesn’t involve doom scrolling on your phone or social media. Learn typing, pick up small books, watch a 2 hour movie, play a 2 hour session of your video game. The key is to cut out doom scrolling on social media and occupy your time with both your project and something to do recreationally to relax and have fun on your off time. The key is balance guys. Don’t go all in on your productivity cause if anything it’s just as bad as doom scrolling on your phone. Your productive, your project is all you do, you decided to scroll social media for a lil cause your tired, turns into a habit, you get nothing done, and your right back to looking for YT vids on productivity and the cycle continues. For more info I suggest Dr. K’s vids on the subject. I’ll put a link to the vids if anyone’s curious just comment and I’ll post.

I was also at my most happiest. Everything I said I would do if I had more time, energy, and no debt to better myself personally or career-wise I actually did. It felt amazing, and people around me even commented how I never seemed happier. Now that I have a job again in an unrelated field, mostly because I need to pay the bills, I have pretty much zero energy and zero drive. I think it was because of a combination of I was bored and all my financial needs were met that I finally felt like I could actually be productive. Thanks for such wonderful video! You just said everything what I was trying to get in several months. I already tried this method during winter holidays, I made so much more than in regular days. Saying more specificially I finished one volume of math textbook which containes ~600pages in 10 days, while first 80 or so took more than a month (I am preaparing to go to university). And I am intended to continue this path, but school takes more than a half of time, which creates some difficulties. Also I`d like to mention that sleep is very important, because lack of sleep even for two days reduces ability to learn and concentration, which is crucual(and I am feeling it right now, so i will go and sleep, and study after that).

0:35 definitely about me! I wrote tasks for like 5 hours every day in my todo list. Only thing that I wrote time limits, like I have to read book about math analysis for 45mins. Not very much, but I just try to be fully concentrated during this time so I can learn something new. Still can't do more than 3/8 tasks, but it feels much better because there's no such moments when you say "A few more mins, that's not enough", timer stops and you stop without endless continuation

i think i try to add to much to my days and i end up feeling anxious, and depressed leading me to not to ever doing anything. Then the the stuff i need to do is added onto the next day then to the next in a never-ending cycle. The idea of doing less is great because ill lower the chance of becoming overwhelmed. thanks!!!

My biggest problem is that whenever I wake up, I feel so tired and fatigued, like I have zero energy. It takes me several hours of relaxing to slowly gain the energy necessary to get up and do things. I keep trying to force myself to start doing things immediately after waking, but even when I manage to do so I feel so slow and tired, and it takes several hours for me to really get in the productive zone. I'm not depressed or anything, I'm generally quite happy. I also want to avoid being one of those people who becomes increasingly addicted/dependent on caffeine for their daily energy (caffeine doesn't actually provide energy, it just temporarily masks your fatigue). I already use 100-200 mg of caffeine (1-2 cups of coffee) before my workouts 4 days a week and don't want to use any more, or use caffeine every day.

Hey, maybe I can help you. Try to slowly lower your bedtime, remember the time that you go to bed the previous night, then force yourself to go to bed earlier then that. I know it's hard, but QUIT caffeine. You can slowly ween off of it the same way like lowering your bedtime. (Or just quit cold turkey, but that's hard) Stay away from it. Caffeine doesn't give natural energy and it takes more, and more, and more to satisfy. Within 2 weeks of practicing this, I bet your work ethic and energy will double.

@@rdkayofficialthanks for the advice. The caffeine isn’t a problem for me, as I only take 100 mg (1 cup of coffee) 4 days per week before workouts, and it doesn’t have any effect on how easily I fall asleep on those nights compared to days when I don’t. Getting to bed earlier is definitely something I am trying to do, but it’s an incredible struggle. The day just never seems like it has enough hours, even to do a very basic amount of things.

It’s facts tho once you cut the distractions out, you ain’t got nothing else to do BUT your goals. I deleted Netflix and call of duty and then I noticed throughout the day I was bored. So then I was like yooo, I’m way too bored rn. Why dont I start stepping towards my goals rn so I can 1, kill this boredom and 2, achieve the goals I’ve been wanting to reach for a while. I’ve now come to realize that making myself bored is a GREAT motivator cuz then I have to do something (the goals) to end it.

This enitre video is summarized in "Work harder" -- "Stop spending time relaxing or playing video games, but working towards goals" such a basic piece of advice. But it IS that simple, useful advice on what to do or how to do would be nice. This feels like a nothing burger. Just motivational "you can do it" stuff, which I still appreciate.

I think most entertainment can be not bad but wasteful but for some reason people keep on putting a bad spin on socializing when that’s what most people need to practice most these days. Instead of scrolling through social media if you want to procrastinate hang out with friends, go to parties, go to the park and talk to people. Being able to speak to people is just as important as any degree or business

I learned this the hard way. I beat depression and tried to copy the feats of death note characters in order to become a jack of all trades. I ended up getting mania, psychosis and severe sleep deprivation, as well as becoming underweight from trying to train like David Goggins. On the bright side, my faith in God is restored , my relationships are repairing and I narrowed myself down to 2 hobbies: Martial arts and reading books. I believe God set us down here as a test, so I'll train and study for the life exam at some sort of healthy pace. Much love for the universe. ☯️💜

A satisfying life is created out of many well maintained aspects. You can't be the best at one thing without having relatively good skills in many others. No businessman is good at one thing. Nobody who is a leader and an expert in their field only knows their expertise and nothing else. Find the things that make your end goal tick, that fuel it and make you smarter overall. And enjoy life! Social media as well as mindless scrolling and the addiction to dopamine is very much bad. You're right there. But there are ways it can connect us to useful sources and interesting perspectives. Don't cut yourself off from the world, just learn to find and take from it what is good, what is useful and what is healthy.

Present is the result of past actions. Future will be the result of actions we perform at present. Past is something that is gone and future is something that hasn’t arrived yet. If one truly inwardly realises that all we have is now. One wont waste his/her time pursuing things that doesn’t carry much importance in his/her life

if you want to be productive and successful in career and making money this is an advice that will work for you. but just I wanted to say to you , you don't have to be the most productive person in the world if it doesn't make you happy if you feel that this productive habits are just making you worse and burnout, foegwt it you can just do the best you are able to and be happy. sometimes finding happiness and fulfillment it's just inside you , not in the outside world.

I am using youtube still and Im playing games from time to time. But Im managing my time pretty good. If I will watch something or play something it will be on the 8 pm when I did everything throughout the whole day. I like playing games so I will still manage to do it but I'm doing it less to have time for other things. If you have a problem with games or social media my advice is to cut out some time you spend on social media but not cut it out completely. Have a nice time watching videos or movies but after you did something good. Treat it like a reward. For doing something good for yourself. Hope you have a good time in your life peace
