I went back to Nepal recently and did the Langtang trek for the second time (after the earthquake, so I saw the landslide that buried Langtang village). I had a better camera on that trek, so it's a higher quality video. You can watch it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXeUfXR4q9yDftE

Also, how much was the total cost from your starting location to the end? And how long (in distance) was the entire trek?
@GabrielTravelerVideos10 жыл бұрын
ohmygoddahal Good questions. I really don't know the total distance. It took 4 days of hiking to get to the top of the trek, but that wasn't hiking all day long. I would say it was about 20-25 miles in total, one way (so perhaps 50 miles round trip). But that's just a guess, I'm sure you can find more specific information elsewhere online. As for the cost, it varied because things get more expensive as you hike higher up in elevation. But at most I spent perhaps $30 in a day including accommodation. So the cost was only a few hundred dollars for the entire trek, including the bus ride there and back. But also it requires getting a trekking permit and a permit to enter the national park which cost around $50 if I remember correctly.

Great video, Gabriel. Well presented and thanks for not killing the presentation with music, like many travel videos on youtube. Have you tried Kinabalu in Borneo? Nice trek. Looking forward to watching your other videos.
@GabrielTravelerVideos9 жыл бұрын
Chris Van Right on. I get mixed views on whether to use music or not, so I'm using it in some videos, not in others. I've actually been to Kota Kinabalu but I was sick there and never got around to doing the hike up the mountain. Maybe next time.
@amafid9 жыл бұрын
I also enjoy videos without music.
@GabrielTravelerVideos9 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree that a lot of people overkill with the music. I think it's the exact wrong thing to do with a travel video, put a bunch of clips together, mute them all and then put a song over it. I like music interspersed at times but not all the time.

Lang Tang (and probably the village/s you went to there) suffered big earthquakes 2 years ago. Many locals and tourists died and most houses were demolished. So maybe many of the locals you met there died...it's a very sad story.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
I know, it's really tragic. It was one main village that got destroyed, the village of Langtang, which got completely buried by a rockslide. Crazy. Here's an article about it: www.markhorrell.com/blog/2017/the-fate-of-langtang-village-two-years-after-the-nepal-earthquake/

Don't know where you read that February is a nice and sunny time to trek... it's more or less still winter haha. I did Langtang in early feb 2013 and had similar weather!
@GabrielTravelerVideos10 жыл бұрын
BiGiTuP4WeStStAiNeS It was actually in one of the trekking shops in Kathmandu. I didn't have any expectations of trekking because I thought it would be too cold. I was going to go to India first and then come back and trek in the spring, but then they said that Langtang was doable because it was lower in elevation than Everest base camp. So I decided to go for it, glad I did! I lucked out with fresh snow and then clear skies.
@BiGiTuP4WeStStAiNeS10 жыл бұрын

Gabe, I have trekked from Salieri to Lukla in the early autumn but encountered no frozen precip. Even so, the rugged paths were very daunting. What equipment did you utilize to maintain your footing on those treacherous Nepali trails?
@innaantagonista10 жыл бұрын
Wow.. the view was amazing.. do you know if there's like a group of hiking experts or locals in Kathmandu who we can hire to accompany us through the whole trek?
@GabrielTravelerVideos10 жыл бұрын
Inna Lacasandile YES. In Kathmandu you can go to any of the trekking shops and find out about both guides and porters. Keep in min those are two separate things. A porter will carry your thing for you, a guide will show the way and provide information, etc. You can also get someone who will do both but you will pay more. You could get a guidebook such as Lonely Planet which will offer some specific recommendations, or just show up in Kathmandu, ask around and find someone you trust.
