The Chinese believe that service staff should be paid by their employers, rather than giving them relatively small wages to ask for tips from customers. Otherwise, the waiters will serve better those who are willing to tip more, resulting in a poorer experience for other customers.

66.6 percent of the population of China live in the 685 cities and 20 thousand plus towns as of 2022. About one billion people are considered urban population. The rest 0.4 billion live in rural areas in half a million villages. A true diverse country with good transportation infrastructure and endless sights to see. Also a developing country with hard working people trying hard to make their lives better. One of the core values for the society is equality . People are humble and friendly. A country far from perfection but in the right way towards prosperity for all.

We don't have tipping culture, only master tipping to his ow slave or servant in Chinese culture. The other reason is preventing unequal services to different customers, Miss A tips well than A gets superb service, Miss B tips just few than get bad service even ignore. One thing good for consumers is you can realize how much exactly you gonna pay from price list. If you really want to show your gratitude or love, you can give her oral praise or buying other merchandise, a warm hug will do the job also.

Tipping is considered rude by a lot of people in China. It makes them feel like beggars. You pay the amount in display, and they will be happy about it.😍

As for the tipping culture. When I first came to the United States I learned how to tip and thought that was a very good culture since people providing services will be rightfully incented. However when I myself worked in a restaurant I found out I really had little interest in maintaining good service for good tip because it was too hard to tell which person tip well. Today after thirty years, the average tip In America became 20% even includes delivery. It never served as an incentive but an supplement to underpaied salary. It has caused a lot of unnecessary problems between customer and service personal. During the same time, the level of service in China has improved a lot, much better than that of the US and alot of other countries I know of. All these make me thinking tipping is a false incentive and can even become negative incentive to the service industry. It's good China keeps the status que. If you really want to show your gratitude. You can publicly praise the people who serves you. You can also tell her I liked your service, do you have anything else you can provide like massage so she can make a bit more money. She will be happily to accept it and give you a wonderful service.

Tipping people with money is considered "charity" and that is bad. If you want to reward someone for a service of whatever ....... give them a "gift" instead. Give them a small bag of fruit as a gift. Fruit or cookies etc are gifts, while money is charity. Surprising how difficult it is for westerners to understand this.

Yes, as a Chongqing native, I once had a great experience with a hairdresser who offered me a drink. Another situation where people might offer extra money in China is due to numbers. For example, the number 8 represents prosperity. Some people will add 8 to a certain number when paying, while others will request a discount by adding 0 to the number. For example, if you pay 104 yuan, but only want to pay 100 yuan, you can request a discount by adding 0 to the number. Sometimes the boss will also offer a discount by adding 0 to the number, giving you a few yuan less as a new customer service representative or familiar customer discount.

There is no tipping culture in China, you just need to pay the price on the price list. If someone accepts your tip, then others or the boss may think that he/she gives you something extra, so you give him/her money. So, your tipping may not be a good thing for him/her. As I know, the only person who will accept tips in China is the bellboy who helps you carry your luggage in a five-star hotel.

We can watch your translated vlogs on Chinese video websites. The nail technician who helped you do your nails commented under the video: I really didn't get angry when the lady took money out of her bag. I instinctively refused it! Because my English is not very good, I didn't explain it clearly to her. 😳After all, it's what I should do. She paid me the same amount for the same service, and I was very grateful that she liked the nails I did, so I refused the tip! I was very lucky to be chosen by the lady to do her nails. I boldly asked them if they were KZbinr after the manicure was over, hoping that they would like the hot pot restaurant I recommended.🥰 You're both so cute. I believe the pretty lady use Pin Yin on her cellphone. It is one of the romanization of Chinese, and become official romanization system in China since 1956. When computer science came to China, it also take decades to develop many kinds of way to input Chinese charactors into computer, and Pinyin wins at the end. It is now the most pupular input system both on computer and cellphone. And in addition, the best appreciation to her work is your smile and liking.

I like you very much, because you objectively introduced my motherland and like you to experience different cultures with a positive attitude. Chengdu’s geographical location is a basin, which is very humid, so a long time ago, people used to eat “semp pepper” to remove moisture in the body and get health. “semp pepper” is mainly characterised by “hemp”, so the tongue and lips will feel numb. Chongqing is mainly “spicy”. Chongqing is a mountain city. People there can eat peppers 🌶️, very spicy 😂, be careful ⚠️. There are 56 ethnic groups in China. There are different eating habits in different places, such as salty, sweet, numb, spicy, sour, and various flavours 😂. The dialects in various places are also different. In some places, we can‘t understand the dialects ourselves. This is very interesting 😅. If you are willing and hope you come to our country often, you have become an Internet celebrity in China. “❤

In China, it is not recommended to give tips to service staff as their salaries are provided by their employers. In Chinese culture, service staff may perceive your giving them extra money as a sign of superiority and inequality. Chinese people are educated from childhood to believe in equality for all, with no distinction between social classes, and everyone enjoys the same rights. Therefore, you can simply enjoy the service and pay the corresponding fee. Tipping culture is not common in China, so you are not required to pay any tips. Have a pleasant stay!❤❤❤

Average cost of the similar service in Australia is $ 50 + ! same as in USA and expect additional 10% " cash " tips . Tipping in china is NOT needed or expected , they all knows the Americans tips on all services , but they ( in China ) appreciate /grateful for given their business to them . Notice , when the cash ( changes ) hand back to the customer , majority of time , in Both hand ....

(My English is not very good, so the following words are translated by translation software) I have watched a lot of your videos, and I like them very much. They are full of very detailed discussions, real life experiences, and very satisfying hours. I feel relaxed after watching them. Yesterday, I stayed up until 2:00 in the morning and watched all day long your China series videos. (Although I have to get up early for work tomorrow, it's really attractive). Thank you very much for shooting such a high quality video, and welcome you to China again in the future!!

As a Chinese, what I can tell you is that next time you want to express your satisfaction with someone's service, you can buy a cup of milk tea for the waiter, or buy some fruit for the staff to share, this is the Chinese culture, instead of directly giving money.
@sihanli9279
@sihanli9279 Күн бұрын
I am also Chinese, and I dont think the so-called "Chinese culture" you talk about is suitable here, you go too far. So, have you ever bought milk tea or fruits to express your gratitude to the service personnel just because you were satisfied with the service? And how is this different from tipping culture? How much drinks/fruit should you buy? Is there any standard? Since satisfication is subject feeling and there are various ranking of service as well. And most important, for the same service, serving foreigners can get extra drinks and snacks while it is just average level service for locals. Will the staff treat foreigners and Chinese people differently because of this? Your intension maybe simply good, but it may end up with unfair circumstance and violate the interests of consumers, especially locals. So no need to do these extra "appreciation", just do your job well, pay the right price, and a sincere thank you is enough. Unless it is help that others have no obligation to do, such as asking for directions, and a passerby not only gives you directions but also call you a taxi or give you a ride safely for free, then it is okay for you to treat them a cup of milk tea etc. to express your gratitude.

@@sihanli9279 没错,这么多说买东西的真的是中国人吗? 我感觉最多就跟老板夸上两句,不太可能因为服务本身买东西送给服务人员。除非他们提供了本职工作以外的帮助。

In these cases where you might want to tip someone, instead of money, you can always just pick up some pastry, or some fruit tea and gift them, they will be able to accept it as it's already bought and it's always nice to have a little treat mid work day.

A possible reason why you don’t feel the heat from the grinding tool is because it is still sharp. When the tool bits on the Dremel become worn, there will be heat build-up and hence the warm feeling

China also has different types of spices: Sichuan is mind-numbing, and Hunan is straight spicy (more like what you mentioned about Thai spicy). And Hunan food is my favorite food in China. Jiangxi province is also up there in terms of spicy compared to Sichuan and Hunan.

That's a standard menicule service in China with middle range price. They normally are done with heaps of detail attention. Some of them will even offer hot drinks and little treats while you are there. They use good quality product as well and supply way more varieties of colors and effects. Specially with these gel ones,they can last long time. The longest of mine lasted was like a month and half. I haven't had similar level of menicule service over in NZ yet.

I really recommend doing manicures in China for a cheaper and more pretty look. The Chinese service industry do not accept tips because everyone earns salary. However, it can be understood that this is a cultural difference, and they won't feel offended. Usually we can buying her a drink such as milk tea as a way to express gratitude 😊

Maybe Europe and the United States are more advanced in terms of nail art creativity and nail aesthetics. But in terms of basic nail art technology, China has a large group of nail art practitioners. Many Chinese workers who go to Europe and the United States to work, their first job is nail art💅🏻.

Letters typed on the phone are Pinyin, they are the phonetic alphabets. Spices in China vary from region to region. While Chengdu prefers Sichuan chilli pepper that give you numb sensation, spices/ chilli used in other parts of China, e.g. Hunan province and Jiangxi province are totally different.
