China does not have a tipping culture, and it is a commercial rule in China to clearly mark prices. Requesting tipping will increase the burden on consumers and is considered unethical.

We don't have tipping culture, only master tipping to his ow slave or servant in Chinese culture. The other reason is preventing unequal services to different customers, Miss A tips well than A gets superb service, Miss B tips just few than get bad service even ignore. One thing good for consumers is you can realize how much exactly you gonna pay from price list. If you really want to show your gratitude or love, you can give her oral praise or buying other merchandise, a warm hug will do the job also.

66.6 percent of the population of China live in the 685 cities and 20 thousand plus towns as of 2022. About one billion people are considered urban population. The rest 0.4 billion live in rural areas in half a million villages. A true diverse country with good transportation infrastructure and endless sights to see. Also a developing country with hard working people trying hard to make their lives better. One of the core values for the society is equality . People are humble and friendly. A country far from perfection but in the right way towards prosperity for all.
The Chinese believe that service staff should be paid by their employers, rather than giving them relatively small wages to ask for tips from customers. Otherwise, the waiters will serve better those who are willing to tip more, resulting in a poorer experience for other customers.

They want a positive comment on the review website more than tips. Every time I take a lot of photos and write a lot of positive comments on the website, they are very happy for that.
Tipping is considered rude by a lot of people in China. It makes them feel like beggars. You pay the amount in display, and they will be happy about it.😍

We can watch your translated vlogs on Chinese video websites. The nail technician who helped you do your nails commented under the video: I really didn't get angry when the lady took money out of her bag. I instinctively refused it! Because my English is not very good, I didn't explain it clearly to her. 😳After all, it's what I should do. She paid me the same amount for the same service, and I was very grateful that she liked the nails I did, so I refused the tip! I was very lucky to be chosen by the lady to do her nails. I boldly asked them if they were KZbinr after the manicure was over, hoping that they would like the hot pot restaurant I recommended.🥰 You're both so cute. Seeing her comments seems to be very afraid of being misunderstood by you, so help her to convey to you.😊

As for the tipping culture. When I first came to the United States I learned how to tip and thought that was a very good culture since people providing services will be rightfully incented. However when I myself worked in a restaurant I found out I really had little interest in maintaining good service for good tip because it was too hard to tell which person tip well. Today after thirty years, the average tip In America became 20% even includes delivery. It never served as an incentive but an supplement to underpaied salary. It has caused a lot of unnecessary problems between customer and service personal. During the same time, the level of service in China has improved a lot, much better than that of the US and alot of other countries I know of. All these make me thinking tipping is a false incentive and can even become negative incentive to the service industry. It's good China keeps the status que. If you really want to show your gratitude. You can publicly praise the people who serves you. You can also tell her I liked your service, do you have anything else you can provide like massage so she can make a bit more money. She will be happily to accept it and give you a wonderful service.

My take on the lack of heat build up when she was removing the previous coat is that she had a very light touch that enabled her to scour off the old lacquer without pressing on the nail therefore avoiding any discomfort for you !

Tipping people with money is considered "charity" and that is bad. If you want to reward someone for a service of whatever ....... give them a "gift" instead. Give them a small bag of fruit as a gift. Fruit or cookies etc are gifts, while money is charity. Surprising how difficult it is for westerners to understand this.

Yes, as a Chongqing native, I once had a great experience with a hairdresser who offered me a drink. Another situation where people might offer extra money in China is due to numbers. For example, the number 8 represents prosperity. Some people will add 8 to a certain number when paying, while others will request a discount by adding 0 to the number. For example, if you pay 104 yuan, but only want to pay 100 yuan, you can request a discount by adding 0 to the number. Sometimes the boss will also offer a discount by adding 0 to the number, giving you a few yuan less as a new customer service representative or familiar customer discount.

Tipping is just not part of the chinese culture :) People are hired and will be paid by the person/companies who hired them, and tipping will be considered as receiving money privately from customers, which i think may be against the hiring rule.

the input method is called pinyin which is the english romanization. when you type ni, several chinese characters with that sound will show up and you select one, then when you type hao, ai will sense you want to type ni hao or hello and you can select it as the first option. and when you want to show gratitude, just say xie xie with a big smile and that's enough 😆. you can add 'hen hao', or very good to express you like it.

Hiiii Naomi, I just saw someone's putting ur video in"xiaohongshu", about the tipping thing I would like to explain in a Chinese way: I think the reason they're not taking the tips is :They don't want you to spend more money on this project because they aim to provide a good service experience for foreigners. Their goal is to offer you a genuine experience rather than providing good service just for tips. Moreover, tipping culture doesn't exist in China. If it is genuine appreciation, they will be very happy. Thank you very much for visiting China. While there might be some aspects that are not ideal,However, Chinese people are kind and hospitable, and China is a warm and welcoming country. We hope you enjoy your time in China.

There is no tipping culture in China, you just need to pay the price on the price list. If someone accepts your tip, then others or the boss may think that he/she gives you something extra, so you give him/her money. So, your tipping may not be a good thing for him/her. As I know, the only person who will accept tips in China is the bellboy who helps you carry your luggage in a five-star hotel.

In China, it is not recommended to give tips to service staff as their salaries are provided by their employers. In Chinese culture, service staff may perceive your giving them extra money as a sign of superiority and inequality. Chinese people are educated from childhood to believe in equality for all, with no distinction between social classes, and everyone enjoys the same rights. Therefore, you can simply enjoy the service and pay the corresponding fee. Tipping culture is not common in China, so you are not required to pay any tips. Have a pleasant stay!❤❤❤

As a Chinese, what I can tell you is that next time you want to express your satisfaction with someone's service, you can buy a cup of milk tea for the waiter, or buy some fruit for the staff to share, this is the Chinese culture, instead of directly giving money.
@sihanli92795 ай бұрын
I am also Chinese, and I dont think the so-called "Chinese culture" you talk about is suitable here, you go too far. So, have you ever bought milk tea or fruits to express your gratitude to the service personnel just because you were satisfied with the service? And how is this different from tipping culture? How much drinks/fruit should you buy? Is there any standard? Since satisfication is subject feeling and there are various ranking of service as well. And most important, for the same service, serving foreigners can get extra drinks and snacks while it is just average level service for locals. Will the staff treat foreigners and Chinese people differently because of this? Your intension maybe simply good, but it may end up with unfair circumstance and violate the interests of consumers, especially locals. So no need to do these extra "appreciation", just do your job well, pay the right price, and a sincere thank you is enough. Unless it is help that others have no obligation to do, such as asking for directions, and a passerby not only gives you directions but also call you a taxi or give you a ride safely for free, then it is okay for you to treat them a cup of milk tea etc. to express your gratitude.
