That hotel room was giving me all sorts of anxiety attacks. That pillow you laid your head on had blood on it. honestly it might not get worse than even just bedbugs, bedbugs spread like wildfire and its very likely youll bring some with you to your home or spread them anywhere else you happen to go after being exposed- everything else is gross and unpleasant but doesn't actively spread like a disease or cause ongoing harm by biting like they do. Even black mold is unlikely to harm you in the short term aside from making you feel kinda bad if its a very serious mold infiltration (allergies aside).

@@AbroadinJapan My brother was basically dying. Not even a joke. He’s only about 120 pounds (54.4 kilos) when he should be around 170 pounds (77.1 kilos). It’s really hard to describe exactly what’s happened, but the mold gets in your gut mostly, and starts absorbing nutrients and things from food you eat, and robs medications of their effectiveness. It messed with us a lot psychologically as well. We were basically losing our minds, and as soon as we moved back home, we saw improvements within a week. My brother’s part of the house was particularly bad so I can’t explain it as well. One of the first warning signs we missed was our shallow breathing. Our normal doctor we’d see for unrelated things noticed this, and apparently it’s your body’s way of trying to stop you from inhaling more of the mold. I took deep breaths over a few minutes and actually buzzed from the oxygen a little 😆. This probably wasn’t very helpful, so my apologies. But it’s hard to put into words the toll it took on us. We’re doing much better now, but my brother is still heavily effected.

Full confession: I rewatch Chris's videos A LOT. I love the discovery and exploration of them on the first go, but they're jampacked with so many different things and jokes that it makes them super rewatchable with so many different facets to each video, but also surprisingly comforting and relaxing. I often find that my KZbin algorithm brings me back down an Abroad in Japan rabbit hole that I'm pretty much always down for. All this is to say, I've rewatched this video many times, but I always forget that the worst hotel room has this amazing visit to the scarecrow village embedded in it, and I get this epic wave of warm melancholy, almost nostalgia, when that music comes up and we enter the scarecrow village. Chris has endlessly great editing, but this is one of the segments where I feel Chris's sensibilities really shine: Connor is stating how sad the whole situation is, almost afraid, it could have been edited like a horror movie; instead, Chris turns to this soft, melancholic tone that is also bright and hopeful, turning it into this gorgeous moment of seeing the loss of the village through so many different lenses at once, while still having this bumbling Welshman make jokes throughout. I just love it.

Also like they said in the video, $60 for one night yet they can get a 4* hotel for $30 that is perfect for a night's sleep. How does that even make sense? I mean obviously this place doesn't get customers so they've hiked up the price to compensate but how are they still in business? I can guarantee people have left that place ill more often than not. Also based on the matress, blood too 😂 Or drip marks from trying to scrub the blood out of the what was once white walls and they just said fuck it, good enough. The mold actually could partially be from that too. It's not enough to just clean blood up, but parts of the wall and floor usually have to be professionally cleaned and removed to prevent odors and mold from sticking around. They probably cut corners and just told their housekeepers to clean it (who already clearly don't care about their job that much to not even check under the beds 😅). That whole room needs to be torn down from all the damage and completely redone. But hey, at least there was no bug problems? Lol

(Someone may already have had the same suspicion, here’s my 2¢ ) - A thought on the “blood” walls - you detected a strong odor of the room likely to have seen cigarette smoking? (As a child of a 20 year+ chain-smoker) I think it could possibly be *tar residue* seeping out of the walls! It’s very much the same color as (thin) dried blood, and will either just bead up and dry on the new surface, or ooze down from the origin a bit. This happened in the home I grew up in with my family, and my current house purchased 7-8 years ago (the late resident also smoked heavily). Even if painted over, I’ve discovered that the tar STILL oozes out! Particularly in damp or humid conditions - such as our bathroom. A good primer (or just replacing the f*cking sheetrock) might cover properly… 🤔 I mean… would a black-light reveal dried blood? I’m 70% sure it would…don’t quote me on it. Given you say the staff was very nice, I wouldn’t think it’s actually blood. And I’d honestly expect MORE. Picturing a violent spray for it to get on the wall, but there would be more. It wouldn’t make sense to only *partially* clean it; esp. if no other deep cleans are done for the rooms! The mattress stain, though… THAT probably IS BLOOD. Honestly? Menstruation accident. Source: have spotted on a few fitted sheets early in puberty… 👀 (never reached the mattress thankfully) Blood’s a helluva stain in fabrics - sheets are replaceable and a stubborn person can get a stain out - but cleaning the mattress… like the rest of the room, someone likely thought, “Nobody will look there, this is good enough”. If it were only the smoke issue, I’d stay if the price was right. But MOLD - hard pass, health hazard (esp. if Black Mold); actual blood stained bed? No care to even flip to the clean side? Nah man, sleeping in the car. & in the Pandemic, liiikely they don’t have great sanitation protocols 😨 (hope you’re in the habit of carrying sanitizer and/or washing often) Happy anniversary, though… that was… eventful!
@kappaseatcukes3 жыл бұрын
I looked in the area in that star and price range - i think i found it based on comparison of the outside shot and photos on the Google page… The existing photos of the rooms show similar layouts, but none so awful. Bad pics may be wiped 🤷♂️ but ppl in reviews (in Japanese, on other travel sites) do describe mold, smell of such and smoking (the hotel claims non-smoking; the smell can linger though). Not gonna name it, but wow everywhere else is great looking from Street View. This… not so friendly.

When you talk about the depopulation that is taking place in Japan and in those villages specifically, I understand very well how the locals feel. I’m Italian, and our country is experiencing the same thing. Our population is shrinking and our villages are disappearing. The village where my grandad is from is mostly populated by old people and essentially abandoned by local administration. The sports centre, which once had a football them of their own, is now in terrible conditions. I personally live in a big city, so the dream reality of living in such a village gives me a strange feeling of nostalgia of something that is disappearing. The dolls that woman creates really make me feel all that loneliness.
