With regards to the initial question at the beginning of the clip: I don't think that Bret played a huge part in Davey Boy coming back in 1990, because Vince never wanted to lose the Bulldogs in the first place and therefore he didn't need anyone to talk him into bringing Davey Boy back. Vince had actually gone over to Japan to invite the Bulldogs to come back to the WWF. Dynamite said he'd never go back, and the Bulldogs split up not long after.

@@lexkanyima2195 the bulldogs were not on good terms. one of the harts (i think ross) stated that at the time Davey boy lawyered up to get a copyright on the "British Bulldog" name. Supposedly according to Hart Davey told Dynamite to get a lawyer to do the same but Dynamite did not. So effectively Davey Boy owned the name and that pissed Dynamite Kid off. this sort of seems to line up. with reality as davey boy came back to WWF, dynamite stayed in Japan and teamed up with someone else and caleld themselves the "Bruiser Bulldogs" ... and from that point davey and dynamite never teamed up again

I don't think this is Bret's best match. It is, probably, his best performance given where Davey was mentally at that point. I don't mean to be dismissive of Bret's best matches with guys like Mr. Perfect, Owen, Shawn, etc. But there's so much talent there that it's basically impossible for a match to be bad and if the two guys are healthy and motivated, it's gonna be great. But getting that good of a match out of the Bulldog in that state of mind was a remarkable performance by Bret.

I think that only Bret could have carried Davey Boy through that match, but I also think Davey might have been the only guy Bret could have carried through it so well in that state. It's a really interesting period in davey boy's timeline and i think one that proved his ultimate downfall. when the bulldogs split, from what i understand, there was tons of heat between davey and dynamite over the bulldogs name and it seemed from that point on he was never quite the same

This match really shows what a mental mess Davey was at the time. This was easily the biggest win of his career and he was going to be winning his first major singles title at Wembley Stadium, and be in position to potentially win the world title. And yet he showed up completely unprepared for the match. Bret said Davey told him he hadn’t trained or lifted weight or done any cardio in weeks. If you look at the match, Davey does pudgier around the middle than he usually did and you can see he was absolutely exhausted after 5-10 minutes and Bret had to sell several of the moves by Davey. That they pulled off this all-time classic is an absolute testament to Bret. And for anyone questioning whether Davey had drug problems at the time, he was forced to drop the IC belt and was fired two months later when his steroid guy doctor got busted (Right when Vince was being investigated and going on trial soon for steroid distribution). Dude was just not reliable, and right when he was near the top of the mountain.

I never understood how people can call matches while they are happening right in the ring. Bret might have ideas in the match while it's happening, but what if Davey had other ideas?
@Lord_Bibulous
@Lord_Bibulous 2 ай бұрын
There's two ways to do it. And there's really no right way. It can either be called while in the ring. Basically the performers know the ending and the specific signature moves. Everything else is done on the fly. Or they plan the match step by step move for move. But in a match the performer working as the "heel" usually controls the tempo and what is done and when to do it. Exceptions being of course the experience factor. Davey or anyone else would've trusted Bret to make to make them both look good in this match because Bret had the reputation of doing just that.

@@ValiantWrestling really Its subjective. Its like picking a favorite Beatles or Oasis song... They rotate for me. I hold summerslam 91 in very high regard, and at one point it may have been my favorite match. However, as years have gone on, other factors have swayed me toward the aforementioned matches. For instance, with Bret and Owen, the build up to it, and the longterm storytelling was phenomenal, and it was believable. The match itself was a 5 star, and Lawler on commentary added to the storytelling of it all. Secondly; the Bulldog match at Wembley, was just a spectacle to see from an optics standpoint. UK fans are very passionate and react to every move. Plus both guys were VERY over in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. It was rare to see the IC belt be in a main event over the World belt... Thirdly; The Austin/Hart match was also beautiful storytelling, physical, looked crisp, and we saw the figure-Four on the ringpost for the first time.the iconic Austin bleeding in the Sharpshooter, Plus, it was a masterfully executed "Double-Turn" , in which solidified Hart as a Heel and really skyrocketed Steve Austin's career from that point on. Some would say it "made" Austin. Long winded answer, but I wanted to give some context to my argument, or to your comment. I am big fan of Curt, so me saying this is not a slight to him in the least, they had 'perfect ' chemistry 😂 cheers 🍻 DAVE FROM DETROIT 🇺🇸

Hmm .. that was odd. The ladder match was a Canadian thing... But Shawn STOLE it from HIM?... That was odd. Lol

It was a concept bret brought to wwf. The first ladder match was bret v shawn for the IC title. As a match to show Vince what a ladder match was

Makes no sense he blames Shawn. Shawn was involved in the first WWF Ladder Match with Bret in 1992 which Bret said himself that Shawn was his choice and Vince wanted to see the match. If Bret wants to blame someone for using the match 2 years later, blame the boss Vince not Shawn.

@fmthebaron cause the concept was forgotten about until shawn brought the idea up for the wm10 match with razor.

It's from Stampede Wrestling, Bret's father's company in Canada. Bret had wrestled ladder matches prior and he brought the concept to Vince.

Bret didn't a lot of slick stuff to Shawn and acted like it wasn't a big deal. But when Shawn did ot back he does a lot of crying. Bret more of a villain than he knows.

What a bitter, egocentric, delusional person Bret Hart is. All is has to say is "It should have been me". Always. All the time. In every occasion. In 12 minutes he took credit for ladder match, Bulldog title and 100% of summerslam wonderful match success.

I've never been Bret's biggest fan, but he was always great, and the Bulldog match at Wembley was 99% him. If Davey wrestled anyone else that say it would have been a dumpster fire.

He sure does complain a lot. Complaining about his own family Bulldog and Anvil doing coke all the time when they're both dead and can't defend themselves anymore. Bret himself admitted to doing coke as well in the past.
