Freya Lana Growing up my mom would use vinegar to clean windows and mirrors , it added a nice shine and did not streak. While it smelled sour for a bit the smell would leave within the hour. We would never have Windex on hand but we always had vinegar on hand. Cheeper and had more uses and avoided risk to child or animal if they got into chemical cabinets. Maybe similar situation?

Annika hi, there are a lot of different types of bacteria, and a lot of them can survive in acid...some even produce a lot of acid as Defence mechanism... anyway, the acid in the Coke might get rid of the salt stains by reacting with it, but the sugar in it will make sure that there are more and more bacteria, thriving because of the free food as bacteria consume sugar for energy
