Seen some anti-knife shirt (basicly like really shitty armor) meant to whitstand cutting. And most tests show that it is little more useful than a regular layer or two of clothes. Slicing people (unless you have a really sharp ass knife), if they are wearing a jacket and presumably at least a t-shirt under is gonna be hard. Stabbing a bit more useful. But if you wiggle to make the stab into more of a slice, you are better off.

You would get stronger ice by making clear ice; what I mean by that is freezing in thin layers like how a normal icicle is made or how restaurant ice is made. The reason it mainly breaks is freezing like this forces air bubbles to be in the center and provides weak points.

First thing that comes to mind from this is Mythbusters, though they did ice bullets, one major key if the freezing method which I think is a slow freeze with purified water. Method made a huge difference in durability which I imagine would make it more effective, though not sure effective enough.

Real icicles would be stronger then the ones you made because of how they form. You froze yours as solid blocks which traps air and impurities which can make them weaker or cause fracture planes in the ice. When real icicles form the water runs down them washing impurities away while they freeze so they are clear and stronger. Also because real icicles form the way they do they are narrower so a stab could puncture the skin and go further into someone. Great entertaining video though.

LOL I knew someone would mention it - glad you still liked the video. This is a valid point. Though, the only way I could imagine scientifically replicating natural icicles would be with a drip rig and a walk-in freezer. It’d be super cool, to be sure, but I just don’t have access to that stuff. Notably, though, while about 15 people die yearly from falling icicles, I don’t believe those are impalings - they’re blunt force injuries from the sheer amount of ice hitting them. Tbh there’s a ton that could be unpacked here - I’ve been thinking about doing “director’s commentary” versions for Patreon, where I talk about why and how I did the testing or build the way I did, extra stuff I learned, background research, etc.

In regards to the melting, what I’ve heard is the icicle is supposed to break off in the victim so their body heat melts the ice inside, thus eliminating the murder weapon. At least that’s how I’ve always heard it.

If you look at sword tests on some of the HEMA channels you can see that clothing/fabric can actually be a really big hurdle for cutting weapons. The tiny difference between sharp and really sharp, is a HUGE difference when applied to fabric, in that just mostly sharp weapons don't cut it at all and bunch it up instead, while the well sharpened swords go through like its not even there.

Fun fact: In Layton Brothers: Mystery Room, a woman attempted to get away with murder by doing something similar to this by making a knife out of ice by using a mold and then boiling it, but was found out when the mold was discovered and blood was found inside the pot she used to boil it.

a better despoil idea is to smash the icicle on something after the murder this will greatly increase the rate in which the ice will melt. u will also be able to leave with the string if u made it in this way enabling u to burn it once you were home or away from the crime scene.
