I am 61, and some of my old clothes are not age appropriate for me anymore. I don't have a daughter, just 2 sons. I phoned a friend, who was my workmate, and is in her 30's. I asked if she would like the desses, and she was thrilled! I hadn't used those desses in a long time, and it was heart warming to see how my friend was so happy. I also reached purse peace. ❤

The fool is the person who pays $10,000 for a “real” bag. I have a fake Louis Vuitton doctor bag, purchased in *suluxy* . I was carrying it into Neman Marcus. Several employees in the handbag area could not believe my bag was a fake. They were comparing my bag with “real” ones and they couldn’t see any difference. Mine cost me $200, real was $7500.

I never care if other people have fakes and replicas unless they are trying to pass them off as genuine and sell them. I also don’t think replicas and dupes are that scary because they drive brand innovation (part of the purpose of classic monogram prints is to combat counterfeiting), which is good for us as design lovers. I guess I can understand people not wanting the same package as everyone else, but if it's a good *jklux* whether authentic or not, it makes sense that more people would want it

Many "luxury brands" seem to believe that it's now sufficient to put their logos on any old rubbish, for it to qualify as 'luxury'. I'm seeing far less concern with quality - and certainly longevity - in recent years. Once upon a time, the justification for spending, on high-end brands, was that they'd last for years. It strikes me that excuse is wearing thin, these days.
@rebeccajm3 ай бұрын
I no longer follow luxury, but can still appreciate it. Despite living in a nice area of Sydney I felt self conscious wearing very expensive bags out and about and as the prices skyrocketed and watching people baby their bags online, I became more and more aware of wear and tear as I used my bags and it just didn't seem worth it to me. I am simply happier wearing a $3k bag I don't need to baby, than to wear a Birkin. I have a lot of things I wish to sell but the market has really dropped. I still enjoy luxury clothes but more so brands like Toteme, Chanel prices just got ridiculous.
@peaches15353 ай бұрын
I would never buy luxury because none of those brands are luxurious quality. It’s insane the quality you’re getting for the price. It’s such an insidious addiction. You’re essentially paying to look like everyone else. Whereas you could pay much less for a much better quality bag with lots of different leather choices. Give your money to small business and bag makers instead! You can customize and help design the bag to accommodate your needs and wants/functionality of the purse. I am thankful for you talking about this and other topics. It’s not my place to judge despite me not understanding. I’ve done things that you probably wouldn’t understand and that’s okay. Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty! I enjoy this

All of my bags are on their way out of my closet. I was once proud to own them but was so embarrassed to carry them out because everyone knew what it was and how obscene it seemed to spend that much money on their bags. After I realized I was a walking billboard and I could use my money elsewhere. Each bag started going ok the chopping block. All I need is a simple leather bag and that’s it. I’ll cut my losses from learning.

My entire life I've been obsessed with luxury goods and always thought that was just going to be a part of who I was. I always hid my obsession under the guise of 'appreciating quality and craftsmanship' but only recently realized that I was only after the status signalling. Fast forward to this past year where I've quite literally stopped buying luxury goods altogether and have even gone as far as selling 80% of what I already had. It's amazing what a little self reflection and brutal honesty can do lol. Anyway, since then i've become obsessed with stocks and ETF's and have been putting all my disposable income there instead. From one obsession to another i guess lol.

I bought a *jklux* super fake because I was still undecided on whether I liked it enough to buy the real deal. It arrived and it was great, I didn't need to buy the original one. The attention to detail is amazing and even shows in all the packaging and labels. It does make me feel a certain way about the designers selling these bags. They were selling it for about 10 times what I paid. They are ripping people off. Hermès is the worst at this - I imagine them in the board room laughing at how much people are prepared to pay.

But I went off luxury brands, which I think are often just exploiting people at every stage from production to their client base. I couldn't really afford them anyway of course, but I no longer aspire to buy their stuff. I think that if there was a channel focusing on local boutiques and independent producers that would be super cool, because they are often much better quality, cheaper and are much more deserving. But when it comes to content I also consume more on books and just general lifestyle these days, probably because I am getting older as much as anything else.

This year my husband and I saved up money redo our yard that’s a 5 figure project…I want to cry, last year was replace AC system, car and dog medical bills. Next year it’s saving up for small kitchen remodel and maybe we have money for a vacation. The only time I spend money and buy new items is during Black Friday where I saved up money and buy new clothes and feminine products for women shelters. It gives me more joy when I can help people even in a small way. My husband and I don’t buy a lot of material goods we like to spend money on experiences and memories. Hi Caitlin nice to hear a vlog. Yes I’m a long time subbie have watched you & the channel change direction over the years. Despite yr health issues, you’ve come a long way. I don’t believe in selling stuff, if I’ve used it & no longer need it then it gets donated. I still watch YT lux channels out of interest, do they influence me to buy bags, RTW or anything else….. hell no. Love you’ve put doors on yr “shelves” & turned them into closets. This truly is a real full stop. Could you host a girls night with yr besties? Everyone bring a bottle / plate & also what they deem as surplus to their requirements be it lux or general fashion stuff & have a swap night. Doesn’t matter if a few get some pieces more than others, real friends aren’t bothered & you’ll bring new life into those unwanted/unnecessary items, laying around yr home, just a thought! I never bought lux as an investment, to me it’s like buying a new car, driving off the dealership concourse, there goes a few $1000K just for driving the car “home”. We’re a couple without children, only 1 geriatric furbaby left his older brother left us just over a year ago @ 15 yrs & 9 months. Some personal jewellery I own, once I’ve popped my clogs will go to my primary school friend’s children. They’re grown up with families now & I know the girls like certain pieces. Everything else (if I’m the last of the 2 of us) will be donated to charity. Life is for living, yesterday is history, tomorrow’s a mystery, we only have the present, treat today as a gift no matter what yr doing. Happy Friyay & have a great weekend, take care. 😘💐

I’m either one of the oldest gen z or youngest millennials depending who you ask. People I know don’t buy it, but we also can’t afford to (unless we go into debt). So all of this might be different for rich people my age and younger? Mid range is luxury to us. I only know one person who buys luxury but idk if he still does and I didn’t ask him much about it. Anyone else I know who likes fashion doesn’t care for luxury because those brands aren’t quality like they once were. These luxury brands are also playing the fast fashion game, they just charge more for it. Most people buy your usual fast fashion and secondhand, but anyone who wants quality is interested in vintage or small designers! Those who are interested in the industry and not just their own style do follow what luxury brands are making but they often seem disappointed by them

I also just can’t forget that Balenciaga ad, I won’t ever knowingly buy from a brand owned by Kering. I keep up with fashion news partly because I'm a failed consumer-reporter and I still just love "swimming" in it, if that makes any sense. However, since that never worked out I have had to shift my perspective over the years; if something isn't your "job" there's then an upper-limit on how much time/resources you can justify spending on it. Maybe, for me, it was a hobby that turned into a potential career and then crashed and burned back into a hobby. But part of all of this, and why I use to watch your old stuff and love to watch your new stuff, is that I love getting to know/understand the motives behind consumption. I love seeing different individuals discuss their personal relationship with "stuff" and how they relate to "stuff" and how that shifts and changes over time. So I love watching your post-shopping addict clarity but I also love watching an avid collector hunting for their holy grails. I also love watching people who have a really weird, extreme sense of fashion "shopping in the wild" because it keeps my personal sense of style "flexible" and prevents my brain from going ridged. In terms of my own shopping habits, they've trailed in a few directions. I'll admit last autumn Uniqlo launched a collection that I "binged" on but this fall nothing has caught my interest. I still feel weird about that "binge" because most of the pieces have become ride-or-die staples; I basically adopted that collection as my fall/winter wardrobe. I think at the core of that situation was just a perfect storm and it, strangely, motivates me to shop less; if I save up my money and don't buy things then I can "feast" if something comes out that hits all the checkboxes of my personal style. Like, now that I have this set fall/winter wardrobe, I feel like something has to be really over the top to justify it's purchase. It makes me think that you can "find your style" and stop buying, but that it's not something you can force into happening; it's something that can happen, and recognizing when it does is important, but making that a goal to actively strive for might be an excuse that keeps fueling the spending hamster wheel. Planning and putting all your hopes and dreams into getting struck by lightening sounds romantic on paper, but the problem is doing that might leave you hanging for a decade or two.

@@CaitlinPawlowski I couldn't generate consistent views/clicks to be honest. I just kept running up against this wall of companies either not wanting to work with me (because I used the term "consumer reporter" or "product reviewer" and not "influencer" to refer to my work) or wanting to heavily control the outcome of what I wrote/produced. If I paid for a ticket to an event/show then they'd let me do whatever; but then people would read/consume my content with ad blockers and it affected my numbers/statistics (which companies, often rudely, demand to look at). Those same readers would then encourage me to keep going, keep buying out of my own pocket and keep spending my own money on travel and events. I was determined to make it work but eventually it just became unsustainable. I'm not mad at anyone outside of myself for not finding the balance; because many people aim for the exact same thing and make it. I'm not competitive enough to overcome the hurtles that you need to in order to firmly establish yourself. But that's also something I'm really grateful for discovering about myself; I discovered where my hard limit was (in terms of output/productivity/stress) and then knowing where that actually was allowed me to re-focus onto what I could handle successfully.

more comfortable, and itâs also not a big deal, which makes me feel relieved. I love a good kislux because it helps me decide if I want to buy the real thing. Thatâs the part. Thatâs it. I feel like people discriminate against knockoffs, but for me, I pause when I buy trendy stuff in bulk or when I feel the over-consumption frenzy is coming for me. (This is something I struggle with, haha! I can be easily convinced to buy things I donât wear or use. They literally have tags on them and Iâll forget I even bought something and Iâll still have 2 or 3 of those in my closet.) Love this video!

I missed your chatty luxury videos 😊 I'm in a place where I have most of the pieces I wanted, I still have a big wishlist in the notes on my phone but I decided I'm saving for the very expensive ones like a Rolex and a Hermes Kelly.I recently moved from Canada to the US amd I'm still tempted to buy luxury (the taxes a lower here), but I try to see the bigger picture and my ultimate goal that I need to save for a long time, also we are trying to stay on a budget because luxury items are my passion, we still have many other goals to save for so the luxury savings are small. You mentioned flying alone, I'm also terrified of flying alone, especially if I'm sick on the plane that is my worst nightmare and it happened in August, I was flying back to the states from visiting family, it was a 12 hour flight and I was sick the entire day and the flight, thankfully I mamaged to survive it and get home (I was sick for 2 months after that flight but that is a different issue) so I understand you completely when it comes to flying alone, my husband is my safety and if I'm sick I know he'll take care of me no matter what, but when I'm alone I'm scared I'll be so sick I couldn't function to help myself. Xoxo from the US❤❤❤❤

I’m so grateful you understand I wonder if a lot of people just think I’m being a baby but it can feel really scary when you don’t feel like anyone you know is or will take care of you I remember when I travelled alone years ago I was in Lax having a full on panic attack and crying alone and no one even asked if I was ok so I’m scared if I’m was actually sick it would be the same
@reutgadmish18353 ай бұрын
@CaitlinPawlowski I completely understand where you are coming from, and who cares what other people think? Everyone has their own issues, and it doesn't mean you are a baby, and I think you've been through trauma from your panic attack. First of all, LA people are known to be snobby, ok? So don't think for a second that there was something wrong with you, remember you can always call someone (boyfriend, mom, friend ect) to help you calm down when you have a panic attacks again and if you get sick, try to remember that you'll probably be in a country that have good hospitals or pharmacy and a hotel to rest and get better, sometimes it's all about thinking and knowing where you are and the services that can be offered in case of sickness or emergency (and also, always do a good travel's insurance, it always bring peace of mind while traveling, at least to me) and if you choose to not travel alone, that is perfectly fine (I never did because I'm visually empared and I'm scared to get lost in new places) so I would travel with my parents, now I only travel by myself only back to the country I was born and raised because I know it, now I always travel with my husband that is literally my eyes for everything (I always tell him that he is not allowed to get sick or injured, only I have that privilege lol)

I travelled alone to London, Paris and Edinburgh from NZ this year - my first time travelling long haul on my own. I have been to London and Paris before, so it wasn’t a brand new city and I have friends who live in London and Edinburgh. Before I left, my husband and I went through my list of things I was nervous about - from memory it was things like getting the tube from the airport to the city on arrival, missing my connecting flight in Singapore to London, missing trains and getting lost exploring and we made a plan for everything I was nervous about. In the end, nothing went wrong - I had an awesome time. The most tiresome thing about travelling alone is that you are solely responsible for directions and you can’t leave your bags with someone when you need to go to the loo at the airport! 😅

Lovely collection! I bought my first LV when I was 25 and I only used that bag a few times, haha. Also, love your clutch! I have an Eva clutch in the DE print and love the little chain. But I don't want to spend so much money on it now, I have been buying the bag *esluxy* , it is as good as LV and is one of my favorite things. Very Durable.

I bought the Lalage Beaumont Fontyn in medium tan last week at kislux and since receiving it I have been using it and neglecting my designer collection (honeymoon period maybe) , but I was really impressed with the quality and timing, right down to how they used it. Will wear it. I wish they would make this bag in a variety of pinks (i. e. sakura pink). There are actually many options to choose from.

You seem like such a gem! ✨ I’ve never really been into luxury things or fashion! It wasn’t in the cards growing up and when I got the money to buy some, I just put it away because the interest still wasn’t there for me. But I do make sure that whatever I do buy, it’s good quality. So, Spanx is my go-to for all my clothes and they hold up so well! But I absolutely love traveling alone and that’s pretty much where all my extra funds go lol. I’m my own best company! But I live in the US so it mostly entails road trips. I went to Mexico by myself last summer and once I got there I was like, I really had the audacity to travel to another country without knowing the language? 💀 high school Spanish class is such a blur and I was too busy with work to even remember I should try to learn some 😂 but I survived and it was a great learning experience! I totally understand your hesitation but still encourage you to do it anyway! ❤

I only dipped into luxury about 5 years ago and never called it a journey (maybe because I could only budget for a handful of items a year). The past few years, I've been more discerning with my purchases. I still follow luxury news through a couple of youtubers. Nowadays I'm more easy come, easy go I'm going to Art Basel Miami as an early 30th birthday gift to myself🎈

Hi ! Was there a time when LV Mono Vernis Perle Read PM Monogram.does not have a date code? My aunt and I were trying to authenticate an old Vernis white bag. The bag size, the monogram design is on point. even the stitches ,the color of the thread, the color of the inner lining. the lock,the hardware,the stamp,the zipper even the LV near the handle does not overlap.The only thing we noticed is that there was no date code. Accdg to my aunt that bag was given t her by her aunt in 2009 .But that *jklux* was gifted to her aunt in 1998. There is only a slight discoloration but it looks fantastic.

I don't really like luxury bags, but more in luxury clothes. I can't afford them unless i save up. So what i like about luxury clothes, and sometimes shoes, is the design: may have unusual cut (pattern) really pretty dresses [to twirl with them against the front of my body and thinking I'm a princess at some ball, LMAO. it releases serotonin, so there's that.] We've been in London for a movie premiere [greetings from Romania!] and we wen't to TK Maxx and my fience found a white coat for just 70 or 80 pounds, reduced from some 800pounds. It came back with usalond with several other clothes . We had to layer up because we were allowed just a small backpack or a small/medium troller on the plane. the experience was interesting lol.

I spent my twenties finding my style, and what shapes I look best in, and spent my thirties building a collection, and since then I’ve just replaced as needed. I’ll have to rework my wardrobe again in retirement, but I don’t have the financial wherewithal to continually do the next latest. I love fashion, and I follow the news, and I follow fashion, but not to the point where I can tell you at a glance what collection a piece is from.

I used to have a crazy bag collection including a Birkin which I bought preloved. Just to realize I don’t take it anywhere because I am scared something happens 😂So I sold most of the bags and keep some low key pieces like Demellier and Marc Jacobs and one Vintage Chanel I still love and will never sell. Otherwise I watch some luxury YT but I am not very eager to buy anything anymore. I still like to see new stuff though. Sometimes I miss my bag times and the excitement around it but now I rather invest in stocks and travel. I do travel alone too and it can be scary at times but it’s also makes me grow as a person. And most people are helpful if you need help and ask for it. ❤

I love making wish lists and I have this mindset of crossing it off bc I’ve talked myself out of wanting it. Like I’d want something and I’d give it weeks to months while pondering the list and knowing what won’t work about that wishlist item will empower me to not want it. So instead of the mindset to cross it off bc it’s a want goal, I do a wishlist to try and idealize that it’s not right for me. And ultimately if years go by and it’s still on that list, then it’s a buy.
@catherinehuynh70683 ай бұрын
I am not into handbags anymore, but mainly bc it’s just too risky to own. There’s so many people snatching bags and bringing into cars while you’re inside for the bag, and it’s just not worth it.

I used to be in a hunter gatherer mindset LOL I was always on the look out for things to get and holes to fill in my closet. Honestly the C-Panini reset my mind. It's interesting. I have no idea most of the time anymore what is trending and I sincerely do not care at all either. There are things I like that happen to be on trend which makes it easy to find the best version for myself. I do still watch fashion content creators for fun but unboxing videos I skip entirely. They don't have any value to me. Selling luxury items is indeed difficult. People want it for two peanuts and a hug. It's ridiculous! So I have held on to many things I wanted to sell because, like you, I refuse to get fucked over. I will rather have them in my closet and maybe wear them some time down the line. The money is spent anyway and as long as I am not in dire need of funds, there they stay.

I have a broke girl mindset. I love shopping but I'm really good at telling myself no. Luxury anything has always been out of the question because I have this absolute love of finding a dupe or close to version (not a knock off) of a product for literally everything. It's a challenge that I find fun. I also try to be as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible for as cheap as possible. These keep me far away from any desires of luxury. As for fashion I have no interest. I bike to and from work each day to work in an office completely alone. 😂 14 miles in the south Florida sun. Can you imagine me sweating in a luxury brand dress trying to get to work. I have t-shirts and work out shorts and that's my regular everyday attire.

Try traveling to a resort first as a solo trip. I just got back from Amsterdam and I traveled there solo and met my friend there. We do this frequently so we usually spend 1 day or so solo. It's definitely intimidating to go to a different continent alone 😅.

My lifestyle has completely changed, I still live in the same place but I just don’t see myself using my luxury handbags, shoes or clothing whilst looking after or riding my horse (horses are dirty & they don’t care how much your stuff cost). And I certainly won’t be using them on the tractor to mow or maintain the paddock. I also won’t be taking any luxury to the beach or any of the beautiful swimming holes I now frequent, nor will I be taking it camping. I’d much rather travel without the stress of being hyper vigilant just because I’m carrying/wearing obviously expensive stuff. I’ve done a lot of reflection over the past few years & now just do what feels authentic to me. I now only want to keep a few favourite luxury items for when I do go out to somewhere nice. I have the same issue as you with selling all of the excess, it’s such a hassle & a pain, but unlike you I don’t care if I don’t get a lot of money for it, I’m at the point where I just want all of the excess stuff out of my life & will be happy with whatever I can get for it (that’s the good fortune of whoever buys it from me). My other Scandinavian friend & I have decided to celebrate in line with the actual seasons since we’re living in Australia (southern hemisphere) & will be celebrating summer solstice or midsummer instead of X-mass or Yule, feels more authentic (& cheaper) since neither of us is Christian anyway.

I think I started to move away from luxury around when you did. It’s like you were reading my mind when you started switching and talking about it anymore. I’m glad I bought what I did and that I have them. I wouldn’t say I’d never buy luxury again, but it’s not the same priority. Maybe I just needed the experience a few times and then I was done? But it also seems like a larger culture change as well.

Idk why it has to be an all or nothing. If you like something and can afford it then buy and enjoy it. As for passing out in a hotel room alone and dying, that can happen in your own home or your car, too. I think the chances of that happening at your age are close to zero.
