This conversation really highlights how our concept of privacy is evolving in the era of AI and ubiquitous data collection. It’s no longer just about preventing data from being collected at all-often that’s impossible-but about designing systems that give individuals real control and transparency over what is shared, when, and why. Projects like Apple’s on-device processing and open-source frameworks like Flower AI show that it’s still possible to build trustworthy, user-centric solutions that minimize exposure of personal data. As technology continues to advance, it seems privacy will become more about the careful orchestration of data flows and trust rather than the absolute absence of data collection. Just like drawing the blinds in a physical home, we need digital tools that let us decide when and how we’re “seen” online. While perfect privacy might be harder to achieve, we can still push for frameworks that let us reclaim agency, build trust, and preserve certain kinds of digital intimacy.

I struggle with this too - balancing data collection with the desire for digital privacy. Giving users more control over their information is a good starting point, but it's definitely a complex issue.

I'm with you on this - privacy is a myth in the digital age. I mean, who doesn't have an Alexa or Siri listening in on their conversations? Trustworthy AI is the way forward, but it's a tough road ahead.

I don't 😂

I think trustworthy AI is key to addressing data collection concerns. Transparency and user control are a must - I want to know what's being shared and have a say in it.

I think we have none at all. From the browsers to the wifi signals tracing our movements in 3D spaces via wifi signals and smart cars & all other smart devices…

No No NO! Please understand the differences between "Secret" (company owned, e.g. formula for Coke) & "Private" (Subject owned, companies can only act as controllers and or processors, but I own my private data. You know I am a crypto guy for decades my brother. Secret Keys (data encryption keys) are shared. Private Keys (signing keys and key encrypting keys) are Private. If we lose secrecy, I will know what is in the secret formula and as an open source guy, I say good riddance to secrecy. If we lose Privacy, we lose Bitcoin and all crypto blockchains, which obviously would suck and we can't let that happen. Much Love Peter Larry Greenblatt🖖

I think it's up to each of us to be mindful of the data we share and take steps to protect our own privacy. Trustworthy AI is crucial, I completely agree with that.
