I remember going to visit some relatives in France back in 1979 and my father's cousin took me to a coffee shop in Strasbourg France where he was meeting a friend. That was the first time I had been to a large coffee shop and it was the first time I had even heard of a coffee shop. I was only 12 years old and thought who in their right mind would go to such a place to get a cup of coffee as if someone wanted some coffee all they needed to do was just go on over to McDonalds. Had I been older I might have told my parents that we need to open one of these here in America. Thanks for the Seattle coffee trip.

Starbucks Reserve Roastery! Even if you hate Starbucks, the offerings are different and the setting provides a unique experience very different from a typical Starbucks, including a bar serving coffee-infused cocktails. So if anything, it's worth checking out if you're looking for a sit-down and chill aspect. My coffee friend who's averse to Starbucks, says he actually enjoys their Gravitas blend, which is unique to only Starbucks Reserve. Their barrel-aged cold brew is also worth trying if you were interested in a non espresso-based drink

I had a similar takeaway from coffee in Seattle - most places still favour darker roast ‘classic’ espresso. If you head back check out the La Marzocco cafe in the KEXP building. That was the best coffee I encountered there - they use different guest roasters 👍

Hi Ryan. If Joe and you are coffee lovers, my suggestion is that you should come to Costa Rica. Here we have delicious and rather varied coffees depending on the region and the height where the coffee beans have been cropped! Greetings for you both!

exactly...it used to be top notch on fire 15 year ago, and essentially Portland took over and shut it down. Then covid killed alot of up and coming shops. There are new shops slowly opening, but its slow as hell. Portland is on steroids with new coffee brands and shops on the daily, while Seattle is getting more corporate and fractured as it comes to coffee chains

My favorite coffee n' chill places in Seattle didn't survive the pandemic with La Marzocco being the most devastating. Analog is one of my favorites and am glad you check it out, though about half your list I would have completely skipped. Next time I would check out Espresso Vivace, Ghost Note Coffee (they specialize in using the coffee like a bartender would), and Caffe Umbria. Herkimer has great beans, but Analog actually uses their beans but does a better job with them. If you ever go to PDX is looks like the style you appreciate most is a scandinavian-style lighter roast -- please, please try Heart coffee. All my opinions, but I have worked in the food industry for 10+ years, so at the very least you know I'm a coffee addict.

Those are called Cortados. They are basically a couple shots of espresso. 2 oz. With 2 oz of steamed milk. Some people would say it is the best way to experience espresso. Others prefer something like an americano or it straight up.

It's world renown coffee. So it's worth it. However, the medium for selling it changed along with the prices etc. I think as coffee for 1$ at the time it was thought to be quite gaudish or prudish or whatever back then when nobody had a job that worked for itself in rural America or Suburbia, well Florida. Even today, a 1$ is quite disrespectful. Everything is compared to what can I produce at home. So in other words, if you sell me coffee for 5$...then someone opens up a shop with a wakeup call, and provide them a full breakfast for 5$. Keep in mind all hotels do the same and they're not pricey and when they don't the kitchen next door is too affordable, when it doesn't bankrupt because everyone is tired. I'm joking. All I'm saying is there is a reasonable profit margin..and often times...even though it's imported to states that dont' make ends meet, selling them coffee wont make them eat nor live more nor create local jobs..it's like religion and the appocalypse...same with bakeries. On my way to school, I'd visit a local bakery, everyone soo nice, but after ordering half pound of cookies for 1$..and what did I know...they'd give me the crisp bag with cookies that were shattered and looked like .25 cents. In other words, plan for the cookie to crumble...I have no idea why they would smack the cookies on a table and give me a bag of broken cookies..all shattered..hahaha It happened not all the time but it did happen...broken cookies...curds swept under the carpet now in a white paper bag...hahaha...was the school broke or did I need to share? Which then means every classroom needs a treasurer for class parties and so everyone can tithe. I think one classroom had a tithe quota. Aiee, de sardy i no anglish, no anglish, no angliss. Vaya con dios..haha
