Thanks for bringing this Joe. I’ve seen some European reviews of this car but can’t wait for you to go on throttle. One thing that this car has is the simulated gears that are supposed make you feel like it’s a gas motor and sound. I’m curious to see what your take is when you drive it. If manufacturers go in that direction, I may give it a shot. I need an EV that will make me feel something on the twisty bits and I think that’s what Hyundai is going for.

Nice review as always. What I zonk is not having HUD. I am really surprised as my current I5 top trim has it and I expected the same in this as well. I have been driving vehicles with HUD for several years and I bought one in between without it and realized how much I missed it. I think once you are used to it is a must.

Congrats on 1M subs Joe and Lori! You both have seriously earned it! The panoramic glass roof is available as an option for the I5N in other countries like Australia, let's hope it's possible for the US as well. I did see the glass roof on one of the I5N during the unveiling debut in Korea. That said, I hope they come out with a trim level one step down that still has the cool N look and aero bits but less power (aka more range) while retaining more creature comforts from the regular Ioniq 5 like the fully reclining seats and panoramic glass roof. I would love to buy that as an "upgrade" to my aging WRX wagon.

Ioniq 5N: Transformer looking I-5 to new aggressive grills to look like Tom Hardy character in Mad Max, Fury Road. Love the Matt baby blue color with bright orange sprinkled in the right places. Sweet! It should outperform any ICEV supercars. It is giving competition to Tesla and Porsche, better for consumers. One does not want any one brand to be stagnant.

Actually I am very pleased to see rear winshield wiper back in business. I understand Joe likes it tucked under the spoiler. I like any wiper with sprinkle to help it clean the glass. Living in Pacific North West in the winter, we noticed during raining ride a fine layer of mud get the glass covered in just 10-15 miles. Without a wiper and sprinkler the driver has to stop, wash it out to continue the trip. I love very comfortable ride in the driver seat of Ioniq5. However I would chose a harsher ride in its N version just to have the wiper.

Very cool N vehicle Raiti. However, it has one fatal flaw. And it starts with an E. And no its not because you can fit more Entemans Coffee Cakes than Hostess brand ones. ( Because they skimp on the portion size now) Lol 😅 Cause I would go Hostess all the way, get my money's worth! Same idea, I ould go Elantra N over Ioniq 5 N cause of the 'E' flaw ⚡️⚡️⚡️

1st drive will tell the tale. I have a GV60 Performance. I love it, but it drives like a boat compared to many sporty ICE cars. I heard the Ionic 5 is very similar. I have my doubts that the 'N' version can make up for all that heavy low weight of the batteries. I love the looks but not sure I want to give up massage and ventilated seats.

It's really too bad Hyundai strips the higher end features from the N line. This doesn't have power seats, no sunroof, and the biggest downside (for me) is no HUD. I get that this has straight performance, but those features would need to be present at that price point. You can get a LOT of car for that price if you look elsewhere. The performance GV60 goes for that price and is MUUUCH nice albeit not quite as fast.

@@bigdi77 EV's have a major advantage on gasoline vehicles coming off of the line. Even though performance based gasoline cars still have higher top speeds, it still takes them a while to get to that point. EV's get up in speed really quick so I'm assuming that's why they'd be banned from a track.

You're looking for the non-N version which ranges between 168-320HP depending on battery size and single vs dual motors. Hyundai's N lineup is mainly for performance like BMW M series or Mercedes AMG series.

This car had better have some good range on the highway, the previous was only about 240 miles. I doubt that many people will pony up $70k to buy it just for a "track day" car. The interior blandness is reminding me of a Tesla and looks cheap and they need to make it to where you can run it on one motor in an economy mode to extend the range.

How many people take ZL-1s, Hellcats, etc on road trips? 240 mile electric range is fine for the vast majority of people. You aren't doing that daily, regardless of highway or street driving. Like I said, you should be charging the car at home overnight. Frankly this is no different than any other electric car. Right now their best use cases are for local driving. We don't have the overall infrastructure yet to support electric car road trips. We do have the infrastructure for gas cars obviously, but again very few people are taking 600hp gas cars on road trips unless you like throwing money out of the window lol.

Likely better range, about an extra 10-20% like other EVs going from 21in wheels down to 17-18in wheels. Not sure how it would affect performance as the smaller wheels and tires will have less grip and softer tire sidewalls.

TWO PROBLEMS Joe: every track session at every driving school in this county uses 20 minutes sessions not 10 minutes and no tracks in this country have level 3 DC charging. So another absolutely useless EV. And I own ev6 GT get and Ioniq 6. That N is dead on arrival for its track focus intention. So you can spend 5 minutes on track in season 1 and hope you make it home lol.
