And it has V2L which my Atto 3 has too, and no Tesla other than the Cybertruck has. @vasil741011 ай бұрын
@@Paul-ow9ddI've discovered that the advertised road clearance on the Seal is a bit misleading. There are two soft rubber guards under the left and right sides of the front bumper that give it this low clearance. The idea is you hit these guards before damaging the bumper itself. The actual bottom of the front bumper is fractionally higher than on my Model 3. There are KZbin videos showing this and the option of removing these guards, but I will leave them there because they are serving a purpose. Indeed, they appear to be made so they can be replaced if they get too worn out. Edit: I should also add that the underside of the Seal overall looks higher than the Model 3. If this is a key criteria for you then I'd suggest inspecting the cars in person.
@Paul-ow9dd11 ай бұрын
@@vasil7410 Yep, closely checked clearance in person with a measuring tape with both vehicles. The M3 is better for my driveway entrance. I'm aware of those two sacrificial bits of rubber/hard plastic on the Seal, but they don't help on a steep driveway. The front lip of the bumper is the part that scrapes first, as it's lower.

@Paul-ow9dd11 ай бұрын
The Seal is a reasonably comfortable EV to drive, and the AWD is amazingly powerful. Yes, it does have stalks - unlike the new Model 3 but look carefully at the low ground clearance of the Seal before committing to purchase. Reviewers have never commented on the lower ground clearance on this sedan/saloon or whatever it's called in your market compared to other similar vehicles. I had a Seal on order to complement our other BYD the Atto 3. I was concerned about the low appearance of the Seal from photos and numerous videos. Only ONE reviewer (in Australia) commented on the lowness of the chassis. My concern was damaging the front bumper on my steep driveway into my carport. Yep, only 2 centimetres of clearance at the front of the bumper. Some speed humps and parking space wheel bollards as well as poor roads pose a real issue for this vehicle. Make sure you're happy with its low clearance so you don't end up with buyer's remorse, as I would have. I cancelled my order and now have a Tesla M3 LR on order. It has 6 centimetres of clearance on my driveway compared to 2. Not a lot, but I can safely negotiate with that. Even my VW Polo has 5 centimetres of clearance - and the Polo is quite low.
@vasil741011 ай бұрын
Paul, I've managed to just about "beach" my Model 3 on its battery attempting to go down a steep incline into an underground car park and I have scraped my front bumper several times on curbs when parking. It's a low car. Apart from rubber guards under the Seal's front bumper, you may find the Seal actually has better road clearance. If it's this critical then make sure you inspect the physical cars, don't just rely on photos and specs.
@YSA92011 ай бұрын
Yes in a 30 min test drive of a BYD Seal out of their Brighton (Bentleigh) Melbourne branch the route took us down Nepean Hwy, a left hand turn into South Road then left into Grange Road. Then completing the circuit down a road with speed bumps. Observations: once under way from the lights in Nepean Hwy the Seal lifts its skirts. But over the speed bumps the front of the car bottomed. In Australia with most of these new EVs we’ve been “forced” to put deposits on new models (ATTO 3 and Seal) before test drives possible. Normally with a new car I’d rent one for a weekend before committing to a purchase. So not being a Tesla fan boy, the ease of arranging a Tesla test drive on very short notice encouraged me to test drive a Model 3 and then a couple of weeks later a Y. I couldn’t get over what a sharp drive the 3 was and how it threw you back in the seat. A 2 day Highland 3 rental last week couldn’t get over how quickly it changed lanes and accelerated doing it.

@@vasil7410 I'll have to be careful in the Model 3, but as I mentioned above I measured the clearance in my driveway and the Seal was an unusable 2 centimetres above the concrete at the front edge of the bumper. At least the M3 was 4 centimetres better at 6. I guess owning a VW Polo the last couple of years has taught me well with being careful over speed bumps, steep driveways and front wheel concrete stops in carparks. Tech niggles have been fixed. Test drove Seal RWD 82.5, base model RWD Tesla 3 RWD, 3 Performance, ID4 Pro this week in Ireland. Seal is 10k more than 3 RWD base, 10k less than 3 Performance. I'm buying Seal, but need to test the premium 3.8s version, as that might be the one... Seal... Objectively more premium feel, more analogue buttons, more screens, larger, more luxury, just more high powered exec saloon feel- so much more premium. Is softer ride, less "kick" but is plenty fast- faster than a Golf GTi (5.9 to 100 kph) Indicator/light stalks not an issue, but gather new versions coming in will be "standardised", regardless, vs no stalk Tesla, its irrelevant. My android phone liked seamlessly , it was just a joy to thrash about on b roads (it even over steer drifts!) Base 3 RWD with miserable black pleather and everything via single screen is like sitting in a clinic run by a paticularly OCD nut. No indicator/light stalks, no buttons bar indicators o wheel, not for me vs Seal but I could live with it. Ride way firmer, better handling, same 0 - 100 kph but fealt punchier. Both RWD Seal and 3 are insanely fun fast drives for price bracket but 3 wins on sporty, Seal wins on balance between its spirited broad fun and spascious plush exec motorway km munching feel. Seal has superb active cruise control/keeps distance/lane assist/no peddle driving in traffic vs nowhere near Tesla. Tesla 3 Performance was blisteringly fast, fantastic drive, super everything- brutal acceleration, quality handling, really impressed BUTT even with its nicer than RWD spec, not a patch on Seal. As android phone user, Seal seamless, Tesla a faff n sub par... I was blown away by the Seal, Im buying one. The 3 rwd was plenty fast for day to day vs Perf, so on basis Seal spec/interioretc is same between both (bar heads up speedo display on Excellence/Pèrf., I may go Rwd for the range) but I cant wait to try the Excellence 3.8 Seal because my choice is deffo Seal, just which one. 3s are ten a penny where I live, every other car is a 3, plus, feels like wearing a red MAGA hat. The Seal doesnt handle as well but WOW it is by farrrr the better car (for me), I LOVE IT... The naming convention is hilarious. Everyone needs to protest the horrible treatment that the US auto makers have been guilty of lately. Go find an older vehicle and fix it up. Don't buy their overpriced money traps. If you need to have an engine rebuilt then do it because what they are shoveling our way stinks.

good luck buying Chinese cars, we have had Chinese cars in our country for many years. They're falling apart after around 3 years, and their spare parts sometimes do not fit well and break down easily. These Chinese cars become maintenance hell after a few years. and good luck reselling them, in my country they're just sitting in homes and owners can't sell them even for dirt cheap prices, because everyone knows what they have to go through if they buy one.

Very well finished, we have a 3 model range in Australia very sharply priced. Tesla and BYD combined have 70% of the Australian EV market between them. I have a mid range Seal RWD on order. But had a rented Model 3 Highland last week which was very nice to drive. The Tesla eco-system and SuperCharger network is hard to overlook. Here the standard RWD Model 3 is about the same price on the road as the top of the range Seal Performance.

Perhaps it is better to know the background of BYD production in China: 1. Working hours 9-9-6, that is people work from Monday to Saturday from 9 to 9 pm!! 2. The energy for production is exclusively from coal, i.e. a large carbon footprint 3. The Communist government of China subsidizes EV manufacturers in the amount of 3000 Euros per car. 4. Transporting cars from China also generates a large amount of CO2 5. According to the latest Transparency International report, human rights are still being violated in China, including slave labor in production.

7 battery electric cars a day catch fire in China: the most involved brands. Manufacturer BYD, the leading electric vehicle manufacturer, is involved in the largest number of episodes, but many other players are no stranger to statistics on electric car fires in China in 2022 . Here’s who it is and why fires occur according to the Beijing Institute of Technology.
@Harrythehun11 ай бұрын
How many of those cars were Hybrids?
@jonathantaylor199811 ай бұрын
Whilst, obviously, ANY car fire is regrettable, considering there are currently around 9.5 million EVs in China, then 7 per day / 2,555 per year is only 0.0003%. According to the UK Fire Service, around 33,000 petrol and diesel cars caught fire last year out of a UK total of 30 million ICE cars = 0.001%. Based on those statistics, that suggests EVs are approximately 33x less likely to catch fire vs petrol / diesel cars.

@@Harrythehun Last I heard was more than 80 PHEV fires with LFP batteries operating at very high C-rates last few years. Also remember that BYD's Blades are not impervious to fire, contrary to popular myth -- back in last April, a local judge in Cenxi, China was trapped and burned alive in a BYD Han with their Blade LFP and briefly made the headline in China. Not too much media coverage outside China, not surprisingly.
