It's called a ServoMechanism with a feedback loop. Most EVs can respond about 150 times per second to the conditions thrown at it. An Engine maybe could do a major change in torque maybe like every 1/3 of second. The difference in throttle control is vast.

I love the idea of having weather-protected cargo space AND an open bed simultaneously, without one encroaching on the other. I wonder if you can't get the extended range battery on the base model because the base uses a lower voltage drive line? 400 volts (base) versus 800 volts (extended)? ⚡ Anyone?? Bueller....? (sorry, but unavoidable.) 😁👍
@Neojhun2 жыл бұрын
Quite sure NO F150 Lightning uses a 800 volt system. It's not an easy add higher voltage as a feature, the entire platform and parts bin has too engineered for that system voltage. When doing multiple battery sizes typically they are in the same class of voltage, just a tiny difference. FYI 400v system is extremely powerful and efficient enough.
@McTroyd2 жыл бұрын

I’m not sold on EVs yet. A) I don’t believe the battery technology is there yet, too many catching on fire, B) by the time you mine the materials to make the battery and the disposal of the dead batteries EVs are not that much better for the environment, C) the infrastructure isn’t there yet, and what is going to happen to neighborhood grids when everyone comes home in the evening and plugs their cars in? The review you gave was spot on though.

First one of her videos I’ve seen and very well done. It’s nice to see someone put it on the lift and really see how well built it is rather than just raving about the interior. There’s not much more American than a couple warthogs and an F-150! Unfortunately between the price and the charge time it would be a hard no for me, but they have to start somewhere and hopefully the future will see improvement in both. Great review overall.
@dontbanmebrodontbanme54032 жыл бұрын
While the price is obviously high, there is one thing to consider. If you plan on getting solar panels and coupling them with Tesla powerwalls, then I'd tell anyone to forget the powerwalls and just use the F-150 instead. 131 kWH? Holy shit! You could power your house for a week on this! A Tesla powerwall has 13.5 kWh of total storage and can output 5 continuously. You'd need ***10*** of them to get the same capacity that you get from this Ford. 10 Powerwalls costs $80K. Basically, you'd be getting home storage, with an extra truck as a bonus! And for those that say, "Yeah, but you can't drive anywhere during a power outage, or you lose your storage", during hurricane Sandy, trees and power lines were down everywhere and all stores were closed. Where exactly would you be driving to during an extended power outage?

@@paularmstrong4546 the battery warranty is 8 years /100,000 miles. Go ahead and look into it. High Voltage Lithium-Ion Battery Capacity Coverage As is the case with all batteries, the high voltage lithium-ion battery capacity will decrease over time and with use. While gradual capacity loss with time and use is considered normal wear and tear, Ford Motor Company warrants the high voltage battery against excessive capacity loss for a period of 8 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first. If an authorized EV Certified Ford Dealer determines that the battery capacity is less than 70 percent of the high voltage battery’s beginning of life capacity, or less than 65 percent for vehicles in cutaway or chassis cab configuration, this level of capacity loss is considered excessive. The measurement method used to determine the high voltage battery capacity, and the decision of whether to repair, replace, or provide reconditioned or remanufactured parts, and the condition of any such replaced, reconditioned or remanufactured parts, are at the sole discretion of Ford Motor Company. During the High Voltage Battery Capacity Coverage period, Ford Motor Company will cover the necessary component repair or replacement to correct this excessive capacity loss, when performed by an EV Certified Ford dealership. Love the review as always Sarah 🤩 thank you!! Came to see the truck & got so much more; hilarious commentary 🤣❣️ If I could afford this exact truck it would be a no brainer with my whole home backup solar & battery. I disagreement slightly on your assessment of charging, 240V should suffice at home, even at 30 amps (which the vast majority of homes in US can support) it's a HUGE capacity. You could easily change for daily commute and even worksite power. Low & slow will increase battery life. I believe Ford went with lithium-ion so full charging can be reserved for longer road tripping. Again just my opinion. All the best to the early adopters.!?

How long will the batterys last ? What is the cost to replace them ? Gasoline engines are not expensive to rebuild and they last several hundred thousand miles. So, you pay extra for an EV plus must replace your batterys sooner...hummm ??? $$$$$

It's just a whole other way of thinking. Most people would not be getting to 0% every day. So plug it in and over night it back charged to 90% (you don't want to go to 100% all the time). So you just start each day "full". I am still waiting for my buddy to hook up a 240v. I have went and super charged up to 86%, then plugged it into 110v and in a day or so it can get to 100%.
@Walkera22e2 жыл бұрын
That seems to be a highly specific use case. I would argue that most people will never have those requirements for an EV to work for them on a daily basis. 600 miles a day is a lot of driving and leaves little time left for working and other stuff one does during a day.

towing has same impact on ICE. but it is more obvious with smaller initial range. It depends on how far you drive each day. Most of us don't typically drive more than 20 miles/day and could easily go a week between charges. It is only on longer trips that charging time comes into play, but regularly there is 0 time at a gas station. Only at home overnight.
