Letting folks know that you'll get about 7 and a half rows per skein of neon or primary stripes. I just finished my first ball of neon stripes, so I decided to share my maths. EDIT: I bad math'd below, and didn't pay attention to how the colour only moves one cluster over every second row, since the return pass is playing out a different pattern. Better math: (number of clusters per colour) x 10 (number of colour segments) x 2 = number of rows to end in the opposite corner on the same colour. So for me: 8 clusters x 10 segments x 2 = 160 rows. 160/7.5 = 21.3 balls BAD MATH of the past: I've got 8 clusters per colour, which means 80 clusters per row, so if I want a square blanket with the corners ending on the same colour, and that colour as my center solid diamond, I'm going to need an optimistic 11 skeins (likely 12 to account for colour matching when changing.) Thanks for a fabulous tutorial. I became obsessed with this project as soon as I saw your neon blanket in the background and needed one of my own.

thank you so so much, i absolutely LOVE this 🥰 a little tip from me to you (i already learned so much from these videos) you can do the magic knot so that it exactly goes on the color change (i hope this explains well 😂) tie a knot with the left over yellow on the new yellow and a knot with the left over black (from the new one) on the black That's already on the project and pull till the knots come together ON the color change. and as a plus the knot will b covered in your Next row because the color change topically is covered in the rest. Your tip about creating the chain, leaving the end open and start working your yarn from the beginning of the chain, rather than the end, is BRILLIANT!!!! Mind blown! I love that and will definitely use it. I started color pooling with the neon yarn, but after sticking with it for three rows it just wasn't working. I was determined and so pulled up Excel and highlighted cells to denote the clusters, so I could clearly see what it was supposed to be doing. I had to pull out half of it, but finally got it going. Now it's very satisfying to see the pattern develop. I wonder how many skeins of Red Heart yarn have been purchased just because of your videos. You should get a cut of the action!

Also, the colors that are twice as long may be a factory mistake. They should all be the same length. Try pulling out your yarn a good bit to see if the long sections continue or if it was just a mistake in that one section. You may be able to cut them off and start at the beginning of the next sequence of colors.

Could see it when you folded it against itself and it was a mirror image….😊 Love the videos on planned pooling. There are not enough good ones out there that are explaining the mathematics that goes into it. Lol. Ironically that is what makes me understand it better than ever. Kudos to you!

Thank you so much for this series. I found a ball of yarn (black with neon colours) a few years ago that I just adored on first sight. However, I was so disappointed with the scarf I made since the colours were all over the place. After watching Part 1 I excitedly undid the scarf and started colour pooling according to your tips and instructions and I AM LOVING the outcome. It's so pretty that I'm considering making it into a purse/bag instead of a scarf (and also the width and length doesn't work for a scarf anymore). I haven't made a crochet bag before, but I've been watching tutorials on how to add a lining (so things don't fall out in between the stitches). So this might become the basis for my first crochet bag! Thanks for helping me discover the true potential for this lovely yarn!!

You’re very welcome! I know exactly how you feel with this yarn. Someone described it as “color chaos” and that totally fits. The beautiful pattern it creates with color pooling is the superior way of showcasing this yarn (in my humble opinion). A bag would be so cool in black and neon. You can do it! Send me a picture through Instagram or email when you’ve finished it. I would I love to see your work! 😁💜

I know you may never see this comment, but others might. Have you considered measuring how much yarn is required for each type of stitch and each size of hook to make it easier to determine your magic numbers? For example, if you know you can do one granny stitch cluster with a size H Hook and three inches of yarn, you could measure the length of each color and determine about how many stitches you can make with it. I know it would change a bit with yarn weight, but you would be able to get a pretty good idea. You could make a list for reference. Excellent tutorials! I had never even considered this method. Now I definitely want to try it. Thank you!

You should definitely try it! It’s a lot of fun. Collecting data on your stitches could be fun and helpful. I prefer to go with the flow and start with what worked with other similar yarns but you could very well be onto something for those that like to reference themselves. I love your critical thinking! 😁💜

You have explained the process better than any other and I now understand how to make the pooling happen. My problem is my tension and hook size. I tried different hooks and I was getting 8 clusters using a 6mm with pretty much using my normal tension on the first row. My problem started on the second row. I can only get 7 clusters if I continue with the 6mm. I went down on hook size to a 5.5mm to maintain the correct number of clusters in the first color which I attributed it to the extra double crochet at the end of the first row. But I can not get 8 clusters in the rest of the colors on the second row unless I drop back to a 5mm and tighten up my tension. I haven't even finished the second row and it's killing my hand. What happened for me to go from a normal tension 6mm to a tight tension 5mm to maintain the magic number? Plus, because it's so tight, it's not looking very good either. Ugh!!

@ItsTimeforYarn
@ItsTimeforYarn Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what happened but my advice since you are just starting is to restart using 7 (or even 6) as your magic number. The first row will need to be adjusted with looser tension or extra doubles in some clusters but it will make it where you won’t have to stitch so tightly later in the pattern. I know frogging can be heartbreaking but sometimes it is necessary to make the rest of the project go more smoothly. Keep me updated on your progress. You can do it! Ps. Thank your for your kind words. 😁💜

Hi Erica. I’m not sure you will see this but I’m just blown away by this technique. I’m certain in all the years that I’ve been crocheting, I have never seen this before! It just amazes me. I have 2 questions though please? From what I’m understanding, the yarn makes the design, when all the factors are figured in (a.magic number, b. hook size used and of course c. the yarn)? One other question is, when using the other yarn in part 2, you had very specific numbers of stitches per color, base on their length. If I were to use 4 different colors of yarn and not minded a lot of weaving in ends when finished, could I make that same pattern by doing just that, using those numbers of stitches? Rather than having a variegated yarn to begin with? I really hope these make sense and that you see the questions. I just want to thank you for such a wonderful series explaining color pooling to this old dog. It was wonderful and your explanations and sweet voice make it so easy to understand. You definitely have a new subscriber and fan. ✌🏻🤍
@ItsTimeforYarn
@ItsTimeforYarn Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much and welcome to my channel! You certainly can recreate this pattern with individual colors. As long as you keep the color sequence consistent throughout and keep your stitch count the same, it should make this pattern just like a variegated yarn would. If it were me, I would draw out a plan with colored pencils or pens to help me have a chart/visual to keep me on track. Part of the charm of the variegated yarn is that it just does it’s thing and we don’t have to think about the color changes (and ends to weave in 😆). I hope I answered your questions and I’m so glad you’re here! 😁💜
