This is why I really love Jamie. As soon as COVID broke out he jumped into the studio and filmed ‘Keep Cooking and Carry On’ and now with the cost of living with which we’re all struggling he does recipes like this. Thanks for all those years and ideas, you're very consistant in your values and show much more support and leadership that institutions, which hopefuly will drive further this agenda in the future.

There are some quite unnecessary comments in the newspapers today, saying that Jamie doesn't have a clue about real poverty and that his £1 a portion calculation assumes that people have an already well-stocked store cupboard. Well, I've just gone out and bought the ingredients for the meat loaf, and the only extras I needed were the pork mince and the red chillies. I had everything else, and I'm not particularly well stocked up. Anyway, no one forced Jamie to do this series, and no one's forcing anybody to watch it or to cook the recipes. It's not Jamie's fault that we are in a time of economic hardship, and at least he's trying to help. There's no pleasing some people, and they have to look for someone to blame.

I knew that this wasn't a $1.00 per person in America so I looked up the prices of all of the ingredients that were used here (as if I had none of them at home) and it came out to $14.00. It comes out to $2.33 per person for a family of 6. That really is quite good. Nice job, Jamie! By the way, I looked at prices in stores that I shop in northern Massachusetts/Southern New Hampshire. I am sure prices are higher or lower elsewhere in the US.

Just made this, halving all the ingredients for two adults. Very nice, although the carrots were still a bit hard after 20 minutes simmering. Next time I would parboil them. I would say that the full quantities would only be enough for 4 adults, or for a larger family which includes young children.

Furthermore, oregano is the only herb that's better when dried than fresh. My parents used to take us to the mountains, and we gathered fresh oregano which later we dried it out and oh my God, the aroma was divine. Actually, even when it was still fresh it was robust but perhaps too overpowering if used more than needed.
@presstmoded2 жыл бұрын
Actually, oregano isn't the only one, same goes for marjoram, better dried than fresh, especially if you rub it in your fingers while adding to a dish. Possibly there are more herbs like that!
