The most appealing point is that Japan is the safest country in the world. Plus, working in Japan has many merits: historically cheap yen, affordable houses, good food, excellent social infrastructures.

There are two real problems. The first is the s shortness of the visas, which is pointed out. The second that is less clearly pointed out is pay. If you are a highly qualified IT worker, where do you go. US, Canada, Western Europe, Australia, even Mexico and Brazil. Do highly qualified university graduates stay in Japan? No, they dont. India has the same problem. The real problem for India is that it needs to raise the income level of those at the bottom and thereby increase consumer spending while also paying more competitive wages to IT and engineers and teachers. India could have its own version of MIT. But it would need to have an attractive pay scale plus an open, vibrant society. Can India do both. I hope and pray that India can do both. I say this because most Japanese companies, because of their corporate structure, no longer emphasize innovation because the overwhelming focus there is on conformity. That is the advantage of having an open society.

Well no absolutely no.. I live and work in Australia, the salary is ok but the cost of living is prohibitive. But so far nothing new, the real problem here is the rent which is ULTRA EXPENSIVE and in addition you won't find anything available.. If possible, I would gladly live on my Australian salary in another country

In 2007 when I started working as an English teacher in the kindergarten the company paid 2000 yen per hour. Now they pay 1200 yen per hour for teaching Junior high school. The inflation is reaching the sky and the salaries are touching the bottom. Pathetic condition! And, the government is focusing on creating unique visas so that they can improve their economic conditions. I am sure Digital Nomads have to show a specific amount of revenue to get the visas....

the visa is twice as long as the 90 tourist pass upon arrival, and legally they're allowed to work the entire time without being taxed. if it becomes popular, it's possible that it might be lengthened. either way, the situation is not entirely up to Japan - or any single country for that matter. it's easy to imagine that with such visas, countries ultimately could steal income tax from other countries. so there has to be some limit. next, your 2nd point is completely wrong - partly because of what I just explained above. you're confusing this new visa with older ones that indeed are trying to entice foreign workers to come live in Japan & work for japanese companies - and are very very unpopular. failures, actually. however, completely different than nomads just doing their own usual work while 'visiting' Japan up to 6 months. the gain from the Nomad visa for Japan (at this point) is simply more tourists dollars dropped in country due to extended stay. is it possible a nomad would become interested in working for or doing business in Japan? sure, but that's not the focus right now. anyone have any questions? 33yr resident in osaka, licenced travel agent, DMC, etc. cheers!

for 200 years any foreigner who set foot in Japan or a shipwreck survivor was automatically killed by Japan, with only the Dutch allowed to one port, until Japan was forced to open up, so you can understand where Japan comes with this attitude.

Why US not on the list, it is not white enough or what? It seems lots of discrimination will be involved in their screening preferences. I’ve traveled Asia extensively but Japan and South Korea weren’t appealing to me. I love the laidback and humility found in South East Asia, China, Philippines …..

@1simard yes you are right they are smart, that goes without saying, it's a shame that they're not smart enough to solve their falling birth rate problem and the best way for that would be to allow for foreigners to live in Japan with not too many stupid rules, quite a simple solution to a huge problem 😊.

absolutely right. Japan has enough intelligence to run its own country. There are developed countries in the world, but Japan is different from all these countries. They don't bring the garbage heaps and problems of other countries to their own country. Therefore, Japan runs its country very peacefully.

What Japan must consider is that they don't sell their country to pretenders who come there for only one reason, those that come there with fundamentalist thinking, to promote their religion. You go there first to claim refugee status and plead for food and Shelter and then when you have the numbers you want to bite the hand that fed you. I have never heard of Christian missionaries doing that. I is actually the other way around, they go there to help the people. Fact, you can say whatever you want to. Doesn't bother me, it is the fact.

Now when these people follow you till your home you feel threatened. Second thing, let me tell you one more fact , the so called missionary which you said doing good work, my foot. They exploit other cultures, says evils things about other religion , impose their religion in disguise of their so called good work and surprisingly people who convert start defending the colonisation, and more surprising is that these are funded by Western government.
