I'd like to share a Weird fact: I used to practice bodybuilding in the past, i got bulky and massive, and never reached that "ripped" state... then i discovered MMA, after having few spares with these guys i felt like I was all big but no power... it's been almost 2 years now... and i can tell you that i'm in my best shape ever ( less bigger than before, but more aesthetic, and efficient when it comes to fighting! I eat clean and train 3 times a week and I'm doing very well... ( i do bulk once a year but the jiu jitsu way! ;) ) jiu jitsu can build a solid body

@Mal Theri thats my point big muscle alone is useless and requires a lot of oxygen and energy, however if you can move well with then all the more power to you
@mrswolls4 жыл бұрын
@Mal Theri No my friend. He said nothing about strength training. He said bodybuilding which is different then strength training. You can be physically strong without size. He literally said he was bulky and massive but had no power, that's him saying he was physically bigger yet not athletic enough to perform well in a sparring match as he said. So again, mass is great if it comes with skill and endurance but mass alone is pointless and doesn't mean anything against a physically more dominant fighter
@mrswolls4 жыл бұрын
@Mal Theri by the way your confusing these catch phrases like 'strength training' and 'built'. Both are two words the OP never said. Wrestlers are typically lean with a strong core in comparison to their weight but that has nothing to do with muscle size most arent even 190 lbs they are small and lean

This can be used by all people who just want to get in shape. It's more complete than Stephan Kesting's "Grappling Drills" & reminds me of "The Original Grappler's Toolbox". I was sad to see that Scott Sonnon changed his program & no longer has that "A to Z" training routine. It's good to see someone bringing that kind of material out again. I also know that your selling all this on a 3 dvd set. Wow ! I am saving my pennies & looking forward to buying your dvd set.

@Tom644516 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for putting together this video. I just started Jiu Jitsu this week and I've done three hours on the mat so far, quite a bit of that rolling. I can already see and understand in a very basic way how each one of these exercises will help me, as every time I've found myself in a spot where I can't do anything, I know that one of the many reasons is because I'm just not strong enough to move my body or my opponents body in a way that would make things easier for me. I'm a musician by trade, and I can see that this kind of technical conditioning is just like when a musician practices their scales. Yeah, we might not just play scales during a song, because it wouldn't be very melodic, but we practice them so that our fingers (or in Jiu Jitsu, our bodies) know where to go and can get there quickly, and there's enough strength when they get there for it to have the effect we're looking for (in music, to make a clear and clean note). I can now train something on my own that is specific to what I'm doing in class. So thank you very much!

These are good to build body awareness and agility because they mimic the movements present in grappling ( specially ground grappling) but if you're facing injury , doing the same movement patterns will only aggravate the problem . Some actions that are absent or occur with less intensity than it's countermovement are are: 1- Spine Extension ( all three parts) 2- Scapula Retraction 3-Scapula Depression 4- Shoulder External Rotation 5- Wrist and Finger Extension 6- Hip abduction, extension and external rotation 7- Knee Flexion 8- Ankle flexion I am by no means an expert though.

This is really interesting to watch. I get the sense in a couple of them that you're imagining an opponent, kind of like shadow boxing. It also makes me think a little of something like a Kata. Is speed a very big factor in these kinds of exercises? I get the sense it's more about working on the flexibility and smoothness of the movements.
