I LITERALLY just bought a beautiful spec 488GTB two weeks ago and I LOVE it. I must admit that when it first came out, I was team 458, but man she REALLY grew on me over the years and to be honest the 488GTB/Spider is gaining more and more love as of late from what I noticed. The only thing she's missing is some exhaust soul and I'm fixing that with an inconel race X pipe next week! What a sexy car and FAST! Love the 488!

This looks much better than the 458. Apparently steers better too. OK, so the engine is not normally aspirated, but you have to marvel at what Ferrari has achieved with the throttle response of this car. Oh, and I never hear anyone complain about the F40 being a twin turbo V8, and I'll bet that thing has proper 80s turbo lag...

For me, the 458 is a better-looking car probably because it's more of a childhood dream car for me, and personally, I prefer the sound of the 458 by miles, especially with a notitec exhaust or just general equal length headers... I think the main thing for me is that it's fast but not too fast, so you should be able to enjoy it daily without going to crazy. So, to summarize, the 458 looks better, sounds better, and is a more fun drive!

You can keep the flexible moustache of the 458 front grille, the weird looking apertures on the corners of the headlights, and the inversely tapering crease on the doors. As for the noise (with an aftermarket exhaust...), if that's more important to you than having a bit more weight to the steering, well, that's your preference. Same with a peakier top end vs mid-range torque.

My issue with Ferrari regarding the 488, and in fact probably my only issue with it, is why could Ferrari not make it sound more like the F40? The F40 sounds visceral, raw and tuneful. The 488 sounds like it's trying to imitate the 458 and kind of falling short. It doesn't sound bad but it's definitely not unforgettable like many of its predecessors are.

@@longtailgt There's all sorts of emissions and noise regs a 488 had to meet that hadn't even been dreamt of in the days of the F40. Even a Porsche 718 with a 6 cylinder n/a engine sounds a bit muffled in the WLTP era compared to a 981. A 488 is never going to sound as good a 458 or an F40, but then again does either one of those sound as good as a F355?

I have a 488gtb res with black top., love it so much . Compared to the 458, the interior is dated. 488gtb is more refreshing, i like the way 488 handle too. Its a v8 , brutal on highway and gentle on normal road city drive Everyday parked at my garage i will take a look and always happy to take a peep when i'm back home.

I had a 458 italia which was nice but I just couldn't get on with it so I sold it and brought myself a 2018 488 GTB and it was the best decision I could of ever made. I however prefer the daytona seats in mine and have covered some big miles and not had back ache or anything like as of yet and always arrive at my destination feeling as fresh as when I left!!!

Had the good fortune of owning both the 458 Italia and 488 GTB. After the 458's high revving motor there's not much there compared to the 488. I found the 458 to be twitchy at high speed. The solidity of the 488 was also better.

p.s. I also feel the 488 is the cleanest and best looking compared to the 458 and tributo and let's not forget that the 488 GT3 has over 500 international race wins, one of the most in the stable. As I'm writing all of this, I wonder if the 488 will be a future classic, albeit the made a bunch.

@sportzntouring they just brought out x2 V12's. It can be done. It's more to do with manufacturers competing for who can make the fastest car. Ferraris are about theatre and emotion, and only a naturally aspirated engine can truly offer that sensational driving experience.

@@Mike-sg9tl yes, but you've got to understand there's fleet emissions regs. Manufacturers have to sell a certain number of lower emissions cars to average the total emissions down. Ferrari get a break on their emissions so their legal obligations are different to mainstream manufacturers, but they're not entirely exempt. That's the issue.

Damn if the 488 was going for 130kGBP which equates to 170k here in the US I’d have one in the garage. The only 488’s that come close are a flood salvaged care at 189k. And cars that appear to be former rentals with over 50k miles in the 165-175k range.

Personally, while I was wow’d by the ridiculous performance and stunning supercar looks, the overall driver involvement and bombardment of the senses, didn’t compare to a GT3. The 488 I’m sure is the better car, just not for me. In fact, I had more fun driving the same road in a 30 year old classic v8.

That's around $280k CAD. In actual fact, these cars are currently between $330K-$399K CAD. What's with low car prices in the UK? Is it because right-hand drive cars are hard to sell? Is it because Canadians have more disposable income and, therefore, they charge more here? I can't seem to figure out how all these AMG GTs, Ferrari's, Mclarens and so forth are 25-35% cheaper in the UK! At those prices, 1/5 of Canadians would be owning them instead of Corvettes. (although a Brit recently told me that if they sold the Corvette, with all it's variants, in volume in the UK, it would utterly destroy the supercar market there because it's currently the greatest supercar value in the world. Buying a 458 or 488 is just prestige and not getting much more car for the price over a Corvette).

This is often the way, and it will be the result of many factors - taxes, insurance etc etc.... The Corvette IS for sale here, people just don't want it that much. I know on paper it's great, but thus far the C8 has disappointed me to drive, and I don't think its a looker either

Maybe it's because you have a high concentration of affluent buyers in a very small country that skews it toward more discounted prices. Your car spotter videos make it look you guys have exotics on every corner. Canada is too big, and sparsely populated with too harsh a weather, I guess. Regarding the Corvette, I own a C8 Corvette Stingray Convertible in Red Mist Metallic Tintcoat. Everyone thinks it looks awesome because mid-engine cars are rare. Some mistake it for a Ferrari. And then there's the price. A 488 used in Canada is $350k on average. I paid $115k CAD for my Corvette, fully loaded top trim. Corvettes have always been the working man's super car. It's no Ferrari, but for the regular hardworking Joe who can actually aspire to purchase one, it's close enough. In my opinion, like it or not, GM democratized the mid-engine super car experience, and I have found connoisseurs of that experience prefer to downplay that achievement.

Didn't love the 488 when I got to test drive it. kind of a mixed bag and ended up going in another direction... but if I was going Ferrari I would skip it and go for the earlier 458 or the almost perfect f8 depending upon your priorities/preferences.

@@shutterbuggification I actually went with an MC20. I spent a bit more (at the time) but think it was worth it. (I sold it before they were going much under sticker thankfully)... went with the mc20 based on looks and the fact it was much more raw and a bit faster than the 488 (exhaust sound was meh but I fixed that with after market exhaust)... the f8 was prob my first choice but not worth the extra 50K over the MC20... if I had to do it again, I would have gone 458, mainly based on investment purposes....either way tho, and still today, the 488 would be my last choice.

More well rounded and easy to live with, sure. ​@@pauln0371you're right. 1. As you know, it's not just an R8, it's one of the rarest R8s ever made; 2. It's the best R8 ever made (even Ricky Elder says so); 3. I have three cars that I basically own outright... If I sold all three, I could buy a 488 cash... That aside I don't even need to do that and can still buy a 488, thanks to a couple of businesses and various positions I hold in a couple of companies. KZbin related revenue helps - plus you'd be surprised what you can claim back from the tax man with a KZbin business... But, none of that matters... What matters is that we don't feed the trolls 😉
