Hi Jeff! Happy Friday, I'm so glad you are all set with new equipment! It's high time you had an easy access removal, what a great spot. Beautiful fresh comb, I don't think that swarm had many options in that neighborhood so they found a space wherever they could :) Ah yes, at 20:40 your final reward :) I LOVE that you put them into a nucleus box. Sweet! Thank you for sharing as always.

Nectar from the GODS Jeff. PERIOD!!! Zoysia grass must be very popular in your neck of the woods. I totally enjoy watching you work with the bees from the comfort of my easy chair at home. I can tell you most of the old timer beekeepers were not real fans of using a vacuum to get the bees. That is what was said to me many times. I like the fillet knife you are using, justs the job done quick. Nature is the most amazing things we are all able to see on GOD's planet. The queen is very large size and is a hard worker laying so many eggs, she is doing her job as matriarch of the colony. Peace to you Jeff. God bless you for your work too. vf

In Northridge, California, bee hives can be found in Gas Meter boxes in the ground. It is a perfect place for them, being well protected and only one bee size hole for access. When I worked for the Gas Company, we would have to call a bee keeper to come get them.
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
It is very common all over the states to have bees build their hives in meter boxes, it's like you said, it's very protected. Fortunately, most homeowners and companies want the bees to survive, not killed, and will contact beekeepers to have them removed, a real win/win for both bees and people. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. @@JeffHorchoff Hey Jeff, has anyone ever thought to use one of those pedestals for a swarm trap? No need to bury it complete, but just deep enough so they only have one entry. Maybe some of your lemon grass odor and some old comb to attract them? Without the wires in the way you could just lift the top straight up and get them. Just a thought. Not a beekeeper so curious.

The spray is called "Honey Bandit," and it is used to remove bees from honey supers when we harvest our honey. It is an all natural repellant, almond oil extract, and it emits very powerful vapors that bees, and humans, run from. How long do you keep them in the box? And do you know what breed of bee they are? For newbee people, what's the best bees to start with?
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
They stay in the 5 frame nuc box till they fill all 5 frames with bees. Then, they are transferred into a 10 frame box to expand further. I do not know the exact genus or species name, and for that matter, I really don't care. The main aspect I am looking for in bees, weather they be feral or purchased, is can they survive. In my opinion, survivability, is the most important aspect a hive can have. And, if I were to buy bees, I would ONLY buy a nuc, not packaged bees.Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Glon. Mr. Ed

A question Jeff is the temperament of the bees set by the temperament of the queen?
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
She does have 50% of the contributing factor, the other 50% comes from the drone that mated with her. Thanks for watching. God's peace Jean. Mr. Ed

Love the sweater! I think 1/2 the removals in central Texas are all in water meters. But the rule of thumb is the lower the bees, the meaner they are. Glad yours were nice.

I know you have those mean ones over there brother. You really do make a great bee vac, and it goes on EVERY one of my removals. Keep up your good works. Just a question..what happens if you vacuum the queen ?
@JeffHorchoff4 ай бұрын
It really is no big deal, and I have done that a few times, check out the video link below showing how I found her after I had vacuumed the bees. The main reason I like finding her is to know with all certainty that I have her and she is safe. Plus, it makes for good drama on the videos. What happens to the ones that fly off do you manage to get them back to their colony or do they end up dying x
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
The few that do not go home with me will generally find another colony and make it their new home. Bees are very communal, and if they come into a new hive with food, they are readily accepted. Thanks for watching. God's peace Cheryl. Mr. Ed

How many bees are killed in the bee vac, just generally, from heat, mass, force etc? Or, let behind? I know the majority make it, but was just curious about how many may still be in the bottom after removal, or die a day or two later from the physical stress… I’ve watched other vids where people wait for them to march in. curious why you choose this method.
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
The percentage is VERY small, less than 1 percent and more than often, none. I like getting the bees in the box as quickly as possible mostly to avoid robbing out due to the honey I place in the box for the bees. Thanks for watching and asking. Until the next time, God's peace. Mr. Ed

it is real great what you do as bees are important for our plant life and some of our food needs keep up the good work on that but could you please do something with your sound in your recordings. the wind on the mic makes hearing what is being told to us very hard. there are items that will kill the wind sound but still allow your voice to record.

@@zackhudson5172 I am from Central CT. The small city with a big heart. We have a population of about 60k. My family began camping when I was 7. We spent our summers up in the Berkshires. I grew up respecting nature, identifying animal paw prints, trail hikes, swimming, fishing etc. That was as close as I came to country life. Never liked big cities at all. Would rather have purchased land in Vermont. Been learning about bee keeping from Mr. Ed, JP, Yappie and the dirt rooster. How are you?
