In art school, we are told to paint the background first, cuz then if the main focused items' colours smudge on the background, it would be easier to fix it, unlike for the main thing, who is usually much more detailed. Another reason (that was actually from a digital art tip video or something, but it works either way) is that we would get the colours to match more and that the main focus wouldn't look out of place. This mostly applies to pieces that you free - style, rather than the ones where you would copy or take reference from (I forgot how their called).

16:44 when you turn on the tv i legit jumped out of my chair, like i know that movie i grew up with it and just made me get hit with biggest wave of nostalgia of my childhood i forgot the name of the movie but i watch it as a kid and the flipping fish in the start of the movie scared me to the point of nightmares. also great painting better than what i could do. and to send it to archie....burn it (in my house we call it cook not burn)? like the smoke will travel to archie and form into the painting?

I really enjoyed the parts where you talked about Archie and how you're feeling about it all and your found feelings about her since you've talked about her multiple times on your videos, I hope ur taking good care of yourself, don't worry about the parts of the painting that didin't came out as you wanted them too, have more confidence you're actually very very good and since you learn really fast I think that if you practice a little more you'll see you are going to improve a lot also because all the focus on detail you have, I really enjoy your videos a lot and I want to thank you for being you just how you are haha It may come off as cliche or just corny but i'm proud of it :3

Hey Josh! I have a suggestion. Have you heard of Chinese brushes? It can help you with tiny details because the brush is very soft which makes it easier to paint the edges of a painting or portrait.
