Great investment advice. It is never too soon to start saving for retirement. My favorite thing to tell people that ask me how I was able to retire early is to say “I paid my retirement account first and drove Fords or Chevys.”

Hey there, My understanding of "meal" labels has always been, Breakfast (first thing in the morning), Brunch ( around 9:30 - 11:00), Lunch (noon - around 2:00), Dinner ( around 3:00 - 4:30) and supper (around 5-7). Of course that's for day shifters. Love you guys! Thanks for the fun every week!

Great show, I'm always impressed by the amount of work you guys do for these shows!! Growing up, my Dad always stressed you pay yourself first, always save 10% into a retirement fund. It helped that the government developed the 401K programs to assist, and that my company would match that savings 50 cents (later 60 cents) on the dollar. I'm a snowbird and I keep the house at 80° in the summer when I m gone, to keep the humidity at bay, sometimes even that isn't enough if we have a really hot summer which seems to be the case of late.

Ha ha about the toothbrush cover. I lived in Florida for 18 years, living outside Louisville, KY now. When I first moved to Florida, I lived in an adult condo complex. I was taking a walk after dinner one Sunday and thought I saw a curled up snake. I chucked a stone at it and it went " plunk". It was a small utility cover! Got a good laugh over that one!

Linda, I had the same kind of experience that you did with the toothbrush holder. I was peeling a cucumber with a peeler, and one of the peelings got away from me onto the floor only I didn't know that. Later, I came back into the kitchen, turned on the light and there laid a long green worm on my floor. I don't see well (Macular degeneration). I ran and got the raid and sprayed the heck out of it. When trying to clean it up, I got my magnifying glass. I was surprised to see that it was a cucumber peeling lying in a pool of raid. I had a good laugh at myself! Loved your show!

My son’s romance with his future wife almost ended before it began over the dinner/supper divide. We’re from NewYork, dinner is in the evening; his wife is from Iowa, dinner is in the early afternoon. They met at college in Iowa. My son asked her out to dinner, she accepted and was ready at noon on the specified day when she was stood up by my son who wouldn’t arrive for several hours. They ironed things out, though, and will be married 25 years next month.

Here in SoCal we’ve always called it dinner, and hubby and I as retirees eat about 7:00 every night. But, that’s because we sleep late and eat breakfast and lunch late. Sometimes I eat breakfast so late I just have lunch instead, lol, and only eat two meals those days. My husband grew up in Michigan, then moved to Calif in 1974. His parents always said supper when they’d visit us, or we visited them. Just like they said pop, and we say soda. 😂

19:00 minute mark question was so important. Parents: teach your 20-ish year old kids how to open a broker account and invest in an Individual and Roth account. Research stocks and mutual funds. Then be consistent with buying shares. Dollar cost averaging will serve your kids well. And live a frugal life.

We eat supper 5:30-6:00 however when the hubby retires I hope to eat that supper meal earlier. Great show ! Years ago my husband’s friend moved to Windemire outside Orlando nice neighborhood he said the one disadvantage of a gated community is that when people come to visit it was hard to get them in the gate and at that time you could not give them the code and the guest punch themselves in the guest would have to calm the person and the person would have to come down and get them but it might have changed as technology has changed

I started retirement saving with my first pay cheque. Every pay rise I increased my pension savings. The second priority was my home, then the luxuries in life (vacations, the ODD meal out - in my later year’s when the kids had grown up). I don’t spend on designer clothes - i usually wear the T-Shirts given out at races I’ve competed in. Save the pennies they soon become pounds.. (or cents to dollars!).

Hi Jerry and Linda, thanks for sharing an excellent video. I remember my retirement well. I retired from my workplace on June 12, 2009, which was also the same day that USA switched off all their main analogue TV channels. I hope my retirement didn't cause all that!!! LOL. Is the square very far from your place? gated communities seem to be quite rare here, though one of our neighbours has built his home with security fences surrounding it. Like you, we save our money and very rarely eat out. Wearing seat belts are mandatory in all cars here in Australia, though I am not sure about golf carts. We used to notice a musty smell at our previous home in Sydney, especially after returning from a trip away for a number of days. Fresh air circulation always fixed it up. Here at our current place in Melbourne, we don't seem to experience the problem. This may be caused by the cooler weather here, though I can't be certain of that. Love the story of Linda catching that "Ferrel" toothbrush saver!!! LOL. Anyway, take care. Robert.

Wow, It was a great MBM as promised Jerry, Linda, and Gizzy. Ok, me being from the other end of Kentucky in the hills, we always had breakfast, dinner(lunch) and supper. My neighbors across the street usually eat their "supper" around 3PM. especially in snowbird season to get a table. Then they have a snack later. I live in a Court Yard Villa and our streets are private, so soliciting is actually illegal in here. I saw the mess that the Sandhill Cranes did to Sarasota. It got much worse. I heard they have seasons on them in Texas also. We have eaten at the hotdog shop also. Definitely a diamond in the rough..

I knew there was something I forgot - what about using a dehumidifier? Growing up, we had one in our basement in upstate NY - had to be emptied every other day, but then the temperature wouldn't have to be kept so low. Not sure if they make them for a whole house - but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.
@MsLorie-ef6fo2 жыл бұрын
Actually they do make them for homes, they're attached to the furnace blower. You can also buy a dehumidifier with a hose attachment so it drains directly into a sink or basin. Thus no need to manually empty every day.

Our community has what’s called controlled access. There’s a manned main-guard gate with two entrances, one for visitors who have to stop and one w/resident stickers who just go through. There’s a manned back gate for contractors. Then what’s called the golf gate, which is entered with a resident sticker on the right rear window. Cars without the resident sticker cannot enter that gate. Cameras are at the three gates. We also have what’s called ‘roving patrol’ until 2 am. We’re a community of about 40 individual associations, single family homes, and other gated communities within the gated community. The resident has to call before anyone (family or contractor) comes through the gates.
@daledivine46252 жыл бұрын
The Villages is so large there could never be one gate for contractors. There would be a line 3 miles long to get in here by the time the guard did all that calling.
@Mary-qg3sd2 жыл бұрын
@@daledivine4625 yes, you’re right. The owner calls. The guard allows access. If owner doesn’t call, contractor nor visitor is allowed in. But you’re right, given the population of THe Villages, it might be impossible. About 2,000 homes where I live.
