IJV, or Independent Jewish Voices of Canada, a group that contains many notable members (such as Dr. Gabor Maté) took the JNF to court earlier this year and successfully got the CRA (Canadian Revenue Agency) to revoke its charitable status. The JNF appealed and was overruled. Here’s to IJF Canada for their tireless work and landmark victory!! 🎉❤️

⁠​⁠​⁠@@ckidd2436 Cheers! It’s telling that the only positive change in Canada is fueled by citizen groups. The government, which announced earlier this year (in March, I think) that it would halt arms transfers to the occupation, still allows munitions (such as explosive ordinances) to flow south from Quebec to join US arms transfers to the occupation. It halted *future* contracts for arms sales but allows any *existing* contracts to continue. The canadian government itself is currently being sued for operating contrary to international law and a hefty list of other charges. It is not being sued for any monetary gain but in the hope that proactive steps consistent with international law will be taken. A team of 6 or so lawyers working pro bono filed the case on behalf of two Palestinians who narrowly escaped from Gaza. I personally hope that ¢IJA (essentially Canada’s version of a¡pa¢) follows the JNF into obscurity. It’s baffling that a transparently illegal group like the JNF was able to keep its charitable status for so long. I also hope that other countries are able to use the result as precedent in their own court proceedings.
