JL Wrangler Sport & New Rubicon Off-Road- Tahuya OHV Park WA. On this video we go off-roading at Tahuya OHV Park with a new JL Rubicon. It was cool to compare my JL Wrangler Sport and a new JL Rubicon. My JL has a 2.5” Metalcloak Game Changer lift with 35” Nitto Ridge Grapplers. The Rubicon has a 2” Mopar lift with 37” Nitto’s. The Rubicon also has a Clayton track bar and a set of their lower control arms.

I’m new to Jeep and this world of off road! Love the sport model you got there, one bad puppy lol...how are you liking your meta cloak set up? Did you notice any better overall driving dynamics?

Thanks man, I do really enjoy my Metalcloak lift! Driving a lifted Jeep is definitely a different driving dynamic than stock or other SUV’s. It is really important to get a quality lift that has adjustability to get the alignment in spec, that being said the Metalcloak lift is one of the best I’ve experienced out of my last four wrangler setups. It is compliant on road and the flex is amazing off road. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

Hey men I know I’m 2 years late to the video but I wanted to ask if you had to ask if your running stock axels or if you have to re gear for those 35 “?

At the time I was running stock axles and gears, it was underpowered but not horrible. Now I have trussed Rubicon axles with 5.13’s and 37” tires, it’s a lot better now with the taller gears!

Beautiful land holy cow, I live in the desert… so have you ever come to a point that you wishes you had purchased the Rubicon? I’m in the market for a Jeep but it appears the sport does absolutely fantastic. Did you change gears with your 35’s? Any regrets at all? I’m debating on getting a 2 door. Thank you so much. Yeah, the northwest is a great place to go wheeling! I have since swapped my front axle for a trussed Rubicon axle and regeared the rear Dana 44 to match. I didn’t feel it totally needed a regear on 35’s but on my beadlock’s and 37’s it was definitely needed. I’m still happy with my purchase, if you want the best out of the box without having to work on it as much the Rubicon is a great way to go. Thanks for watching!

Does the sport just have its sway bar disconnected? Or do you have additional modifications excluding the aforementioned lift?

Suraj Bhakta the sway bar is disconnected with the Metalcloak links. The lift really does work great by itself. The tires do help a bit as well.

Any regearing, lockers, or axel issues? I’m looking at a JL and don’t want the price of the rubicon, but I’m concerned about putting 35’s on a sport.

@@johndoe007inDC Sport axles can handle 35s no issues. And the gears work well with the 8 speed

if you put 35" tires on a sport with 3.21 gears, it will render 6th gear useless in a manual 4High becomes unusable as well. In an automatic with 3.21 gears it will hunt for the proper gear on the highway constantly. of course the higher gear ratio(numerical) the less effect bigger tires have on the drivability. I would not put 35" tires on anything with less than a 4.10 you can find a graph online that shows the appropriate gear ratio for each tire size, just do a quick search

Thanks for the vid man! Currently debating the trim level dilemma myself, that rubi book value hold is hard to talk myself out of. However when I see rigs like you’ve set up the choice gets so much harder. Looking forward to more. I agree with another comment, be great to get an out of pocket cost estimate for each rig for us Penny pinchers that really want to do it all on a buck.

Thanks for watching! I went through the same process as you when I was looking for my JL. Back in 2018 when the JL was still very new the price difference between the two was substantial! Now Rubicon’s can be found in the low to mid 40k range, that wasn’t the case back then. This is my 4th Wrangler and all the ones before we’re Sport models as well, I go into these builds knowing I’m going to replace a lot of parts and like doing the work myself. Knowing what my brother in law paid and what I’m into my Jeep for I think I made the better decisions. This will be different for everyone though and if you just want turn key the Rubi does check a lot of the boxes! I hope this helps, thanks again for watching!!

Sports actually hold their value better, percentage wise. Not sure why people keep saying rubicons hold their value better.

@@eda7875 I’ve never had a problem selling my old Jeep’s, I think the higher MSRP of the Rubicon makes it seem like there worth more used, it would be interesting to see what the actual cost of ownership is over 5 years between the two. Thanks for watching!

Tahuya is our home area. Nice video, but if your willing to accept some feed back? Your video stated “vs” scenario. But at no point did you show your rig through an obstacle and then your BIL for a comparison. Yes, that takes time and a bit of set up. Yes, Sunday’s are not the day to do this. So, either take the time to do some actual comparisons or change the title to some else. Other than that, the video was good quality and as you stated in it was just dual cameras watching each other. Keep up the content!
