Joe, this song has always meant so much to me. I lost my mother to a drug overdose and my father left when I was 6 months old. I have waited for many ships that should have been safe in the harbor but were sank from the trials of life. I love you Joe, I pray that you are in the arms of a loving God. I pray that all your ships have now come in.

I met Joe one time in Nashville years ago. One of the nicest guys you could ever meet. He actually stopped and had a conversation with me. I wasn't starstuck at all. Just a displaced Okie talking to another fellow Okie. His music will live on forever but his character will always be his legacy. I hope they have guitars in heaven.......

My gf and I saw him in concert in Corinth, MS a few months ago. He was putting on a show when he fell on stage and hurt his leg really bad. He could have easily walked off stage and noone would blame him but he continued his set. While he did not move around much cause he was clearly in pain, he was still amazing! RIP Joe Diffie we will keep you memory alive through your music and stories!

Went Turkey hunting in Velma Oklahoma with some friends a few years ago. They knew Joe's mom and she was still in the old home place. We were welcomed over to fish in their pond. The whole time all I could think about was Joe's hit song "Home". Although Joe didn't right the song it was no doubt such a hit due to the heartfelt passion that Joe put into it. I'll always believe the "Swimming hole and a fishing pole and the feel of a muddy road between my toes" took Joe back to the very place I stood in April of 2018. Although I never met the Legend, I'll always be thankful for the time I walked in his shoes and saw what he saw. And now when I hear that song I have two homes to reminisce about.

Instead of spending millions of dollars trying to fix other countries problems we need to focus more on the many homeless and "insane locked up in themselves" veterans right here in America first. Just my opinion. Thank you Joe Diffie for singing such a powerful song and reminding us to keep our priorities straight.

i think this song is an awesome observation of a person's perception of the old drunk at their local bar. he's sitting there reflecting on his sacrifices, and paying tribute to them by thanking god for all he has,and feeling sorry for those less fortunate as he is. i think we'd all learn a lot from that old man at our local bar when it comes to something like this.

This is one of my favorite songs ever. This is real country music, through and through. The melody is beautiful, the rhyming is perfect. I have had some very hard times in the last few years and I am still waiting for my ship. Of course I am afraid if it ever comes in, it will have a hole in it and I'll sink 😕 Many times when I feel sad and down, I listen to this song and it helps me to keep going. Sometimes I wonder, will my ship ever come in?

I wrote the comment below several years ago and here I am back again to listen to this beautiful song after hearing that Joe Diffie passed away. My heart is so sad right now. I grew up listening to him when I was first discovering my love of country music in the early 90s. I was 10, 11 years old and it was the perfect time for country music. I can't believe this horrible virus has taken him away. I pray for his family at this difficult time. I hope many ships came in for Joe Diffie during his lifetime and now he has sailed and made the last journey home. Thank you for the music. We will love and miss you always.

Had an online memory pop up today of an old friend who had lost his way and ultimately lost his life about 18 months ago. The memory was of a happier time with his family before he became estranged from them. I couldn't help but think of this song... measure your sorrows and recognize your blessings, because so many others are swallowed up in waters beyond their control. RIP B.
