If you pay attention to his face, he seems so immersed in what he is playing...he is deeply feeling the music...as if it entered his body and filled his whole being, and possessed by the profoundness of the music...Hisaishi-sama is truly the most imaginative composer i have ever heard...his songs are not only songs that revive the senses but also tell a story...Long Live Hisaishi-sama...If he dies, the world would clearly miss his genius and his character...and his music...

I am a person who likes to listen to metal, techno, and all other modern music genre. But i cannot deny that this masterpiece of music is just simply "beautiful" Joe Hisaishi is a master of his own creativity and there is not one soul who can or will ever replace his.

omg! im so glad to have found this song again!! i love love love this piece so much when i was watching mononoke. and Ashitaka was a dashing Japanese hero in the anime. I wonder how does someone like Hisaishi managed to compose music like this that evokes the right emotion in movies/animes. Love him!

He is a professional musician who is getting paid to do this. "It's difficult" is NEVER a good enough justification, are you saying Gil Shaham or Vengerov would sound just as bad if put in this guy's place?

Listen and watch the video right after the piano solo, at around 2:44. Notice how the er-hu was playing the lead melody and the violin was the accompaniment, then at 3:08 the roles are reversed. Isn't it amazing how seamless the transition was, how similar both instruments sound (at least in that part of the music), and how harmoniously both instruments could lead and follow each other in turn? East meets West, they fight, they reflect, and then harmony. Which is basically the story of Mononoke!

Hayao Miyazaki once said that he'd like his films to be true gems, something considered a treat, an experience for children and adults alike to experience on an occasion that only occurred once a year or once in a blue moon. That he wished only that the films he created would bring a brilliance out in everyone's imagination. My grandad was a photographer and short film maker, in 1991 he taped 'Laputa: A castle in the sky' on tv, I was 5 years old. I know now just how much of an influence he was
