When that day comes for John, and the world stops to look back on his career, there are going to be a lot of people who will be stunned at the vastness and quality of his body of work. He is under-appreciated and one of the great songwriters of our time.

John Mellancamp is considered the most important Roots Rocker of a generation. He calls it "a Raw Appalachian outlook to his songs". His songs just make you feel good. He doesn't sing to you he sings about you. Love this man.!! 🎶🎵🎶🎵

John is real. One of the most underestimated artist in history. His talent for creative heart felt lyrics is among the greatest of all time. I can hear Jack and Diane or Not Even Done with The Night to this day and instantly see and feel that time and place where I first heard first those songs. If only I could feel that way again. Thanks John.

I don't know what it is about John Mellencamp, but almost every song of his gives me the chills - in a good way. The songs from Life, Death, Love and Freedom kill me - all fantastic. From "Jack and Diane," which I never got growing up in NYC to "A Ride Back Home," his trajectory from simple pop songs to more layered, American roots has been lovely. Now living in MN for 15 years - I finally get "J&D" In NYC, no one sucks on a chili dog outside the Tastee Freeze. :)

This song hits home with so many of us who started out as young adults with strength and courage to try and succeed, only to have so many seek to destroy us. It's like when you see a video of a big animal swarmed by bees until it finally falls. I often wondered why older folks were always sitting on the porch, but now I understand. They were tired of fighting off the "devils" and waiting for their ride back home. All I can tell you is that I'm standing by the road with my thumb in the air.

I couldn't help lovin' that spirited duet. I think it's a lot of humour in it, but it's not ironical. I like the sequence of chords in the end. It descends like the life of human being in the last years. The expressionless musicians behind the singers emphasize the gravity of the human situation. But why is the audience as from the 19 th century ? There's a starting contrast between audience and the very fresh and modern appearance of Karen Fairchild. The video is made with taste. Good job.

I have seen him 5 times before in concert but i think this will be the best being as we are both getting older & I am starting to apreciate acoustic versions of my fave songs from most artists. I hope he plays a lot of acoustic on Thursday but if he doesnt it will still be a major hilite for my year. Thank you Cyndy & Jesse... Have any of you noticed that it takes a music video sometimes, before you actually get the lyrics - I hadn't realized what he was singing about, until I saw him performing this: "... but it's gone now... and it ain't comin' back... my time's come and gone... it's as simple as that..." Neat. I didn't think much of this album when it was released - but now I love it. "Life, Death, Love, and Freedom" has really grown on me. I'm going to buy it for my sister.
