Spider-Man: No Way Home is a miracle. There is no reason that a film balancing this many characters, plot elements, villains, and SPIDER-MEN should have worked this well, but here we are. And at the core of this success is a film that is celebrating not just Spider-Man’s history as a franchise in relation to its audience, but a film that is celebrating Peter Parker as a character.

Most people expect an epic "Andrew Spider-Man VS Venom" film, but we all know it'd be a buddy cop movie.

Not really. Andrew said in the movie that he stopped pulling his punches so he kinda became a murderer. In the end of No Way Home, Venom even says that they gotta meet this spider man guy. Maybe when they go to New York, they will hear the news that Spider Man is a murderer and maybe then they will fight before realizing that they are on the same side as Andrew would have stopped such stuff after no way home. Then they might team up against another bad guy. Just like all the other VS movies like Civil War, Godzilla vs Kong, etc.

@@communadog7874 I don't think so. Venom and Eddie are lovers at this point. I really don't see why Venom would leave Eddie for Peter and he can't really force a symbiote to choose him. They could make it so that Venom and Eddie fight and split up but they already did that in Venom 2 which was all about them reinforcing their relationship.

I remember back in 2016 when homecoming was mentioned for development my brother said there was too many spider-man movies . I told him that was because they were setting us up for a live action Spider verse movie only for him to say that will never happen because it would be too expensive and that Tobey Maguire was done being spider-man and that Andrew was fired and they don't want him again. Well fast forward to now. We got a spiderverse movie that was live action.

I'm a fan of both but Gwen's death hits harder for me. Maybe because in TASM1 and TASM2, they built Peter and Gwen's relationship perfectly to where in Tom's case, his aunt was showcased as a "hot aunt" in the first two MCU Spider-Man movies, it's really in No Way Home where they scrapped that idea and turned her into a real aunt that cares for his nephew. Both deaths are greatly executed but one hits harder.

Holland’s acting was good but the scene itself didn’t carry much weight due to this Aunt May didn’t really have as big role in the other movies so it hindered the scene. I find this film also deconstructs the whole “No Secret Identity” thing prominent in the MCU. It shows that if you get stuck with a lousy rumor, it can affect your life and ruin your future. And for people that do still treat him as a hero, that fame might overwhelm you. It worked for Tony because he’s happy to show off his great life, but Peter is a lot more socially awkward.

When you look at most MCU characters, the public doesn’t actually know their real name. They know Loki, Thor, Tony and - at a stretch - Banner. All of these characters have the framework to deal with their identities being known, but Peter doesn’t

One of my favourite lines from this film was when Tobey's Peter says (paraphrasing - it was a week or so ago I saw it) "I think I can make a cure [for Green Goblin]. I've had a long time to think about it". The implication there killed me. Osborne is long dead, but Peter has still been asking himself if there was something he could have done to save him. There's no practical use for a cure after Osborne died. To my knowledge, especially after Harry, there's no more Goblin serum in that universe, no one else at risk. So it's just Peter spending years beating himself up about not doing enough to save a man who died trying to kill him.

Seeing Peter not re-introduce himself to MJ and Ned really hit me. The Peter and MJ story that was such a big part of Far From Home is one of, if not the best part of that movie for me, and we've all loved Ned since day 1. They did everything they possibly could to help Peter and the Spider-Men throughout the movie, and basically served as MCU Peter's lifeline, the biggest thing keeping him grounded despite all the craziness. When he's about to say that he loves her before the memory wipe, she interrupts him and tells him to save it until they meet again. MJ wanted to be with him, and she didn't care about the risks that come with that, because she loved him. And his love for her, that he never got to say, is what motivates him to make that last sacrifice, and walk out. Ned was the first one to find out that Peter is Spider-Man, and their friendship is something unique to MCU Peter. Him not re-introducing himself to Ned almost feels like a betrayal, but it's for his own sake. It's all beautifully heartbreaking.

I remember when I saw the No Way Home, when I was done one of my first thoughts was how nice it was to see Andrew Garfield be Spiderman under the direction, writing, and care of people who were just… better than the folks who did the Amazing films. Because I always liked the Amazing films just fine, there was plenty of good there, it was just… mixed. I knew that he could act, so the blame seemed pretty squarely on the writing and directing. And No Way Home just sort of… confirmed it for me. Watching folks react to the whole Tom Holland Trilogy has been wild as someone who views things in a sort of level way. I never minded Peter’s relationship with Tony, because they were never going to be able to capture Spider-Man’s comic relationship with other heroes mostly because it’s just weird. Because in the comics Spiderman to most of the other heroes is baby but also peer because he’s been doing the hero thing just as long. And a bunch of other stuff, it was just never going to be a thing that could happen. So what they did was the smart option and I always enjoyed it and it made sense. He was Peter Parker… who grew up with lots of established heroes. As opposed to a Peter who everything was normal and then Thor showed up, and Fantastic Four, and suddenly he has super powers and all sorts of other heroes are popping up. It’s a different deal, and I always thought it was handled well. So watching folks throw fits about IronBoy was a trip. At least that will disappear going forward, which is nice. It’s also great that through the three movies, we’ve now managed to land at more… classic Peter Parker in a way that doesn’t feel weird and forced. Plus they pretty much did One More Day without pissing people off, which is impressive. And Tom’s Peter being able to pull them together because he actually has done teamwork. Chefs kiss. I really love the movie.

Not saying he is a bad friend but compare it to searching for something on the internet if you are not exact enough you do not get what you want.

I think I have a few answers to the questions brought on by the final spell - The spell only affects the universe it was cast in (MCU) - Tobey and Andrew were not part of that universe, so they were unaffected by the spell - The multiversal variants were being brought in because the world (MCU) knew Peter was Spider-man (think of it like being attracted to a magnet), so making the world forget Peter entirely cancels out the magnetic pull, undoing the tension on the walls of reality. It also basically overlaps the initial spell, preventing the mulitversal collapse

Theory on Electro knowing Peter was Spidey: In TASM2, Harry told Max. Likely off-screen. But Max was so fixated on one-upping Garfield's Spider-Man he didn't care. He just wanted to one up him. Hatting what Max perceived in Peter, knowing who Spider-Man was is just an afterthought to him. It's not impossible to connect. Given the muddled production the film had and may have kept certain things out. But I'm just putting two and two together given how much Harry grew to hate Spider-Man and Peter. No Way Home now joins the PS4 Spiderman game as my favorite representations of Peter Parker’s character (and based on some bits I looks like that may have been intentional since the movie seems like it takes some cues from the game.) The heart of Peter Parker is what’s most important in the movie. He could have so much if he was selfish, but instead has to be selfless because that’s just the guy he’s became. And in the end commits the ultimate selfless act, literally depersoning himself, to save everything else. A beautifully made movie that I never expected to be as good as it was. As for the going forward theories, one way I could see things going forward? Daredevil. Daredevil’s power set including being able to read the body signs of a person to know if they’re lying or tellin the truth could mean that he is the only one who learns about the sacrifice that Peter made and believed it because he could tell he was truthful. Incorporating that into a “friendly neighborhood” story about Peter fighting against the darkness that haunts in the neighborhood could be a really good way to go for a movie before the symbiote comes into play.

I’ve heard people say that Tobey Maguire is the better Peter Parker and that Andrew Garfield is the better Spider-Man and I kind of agree with that. I really like how in this film they kind of went with that, if you think about it. Tobey enters without his suit, and Andrew enters suited up, and even says later “I got no time for Peter Parker stuff. . “ They both kind of show that they’ve matured and leaned in other directions, and I love that. I’m not saying Tobey gave up, but maybe he has started to make a name for Peter Parker in his world. I really think this is the best Spider-Man film. They did a really good job with it. Just the fact that they all got to be together is amazing and I think all of the actors were hyped for that. I also would love them to introduce Miles Moralis into the MCU, and I’d LOVE an Amazing Spider-Man 3. They have infinite opportunities and I think they could do really well with that. Also, Andrew has now provided my two favorite scenes in any Marvel movie. I love his talk to the beat up kid (Jorge) in the alleyway about wind-turbines, and I’m super happy he got his redemption and the scene where he caught MJ was absolutely incredible. Andrew Garfield absolutely stole the show in this movie. You were right. I thought I figured it out; why Max was in this movie. I thought he maybe just survived and heard the name Peter Parker while assembling the Sinister Six or something, but I’m not sure how he aged so much. What’s even worse is he said he was brought to this universe while fighting Peter in that end fight of TASM 2. I love electro in this movie, don’t get me wrong, and he absolutely improved it, but I’m not sure how he got in it lol. I might be missing something, and I’d really appreciate if someone commented clearing that up. He of course did introduce himself, even though it was an introduction as a new person, and he also says "See you around" to MJ when he leaves with his coffee. So my theory is that he wants to become friends with Ned and lovers with MJ again, but from scratch. As in, he will probably allow them all the space they need to live their lives, whilst also trying to rekindle their relationships by slowly and naturally building up their interactions in the coffee shop etc. etc.

It’s basically the opposite effect of the Star Wars sequels or Game of Thrones. There's something i wanted to note about no way home, which i think compliments this movie interesting; the whole arc of the movie starts when peter goes to Dr. Strange and convinces him to use a risky spell to make the world forget he is Spiderman. However, Peter starts to get somewhat selfish and pressures Dr. Strange to multiply the spell in order for peter's life to be as perfect as he wanted it. this act of selfishness costs peter, making Strange lose his trust in him and causing the whole chaos that leads to the death of Aunt may and the grief that followed. Only when peter shows full willingness to give up everything in his life, by making everyone forget his mere existance, he manages to do the right thing and save everyone. I think that this scene to start the movie makes Peter not be seen as this perfect, selfless being; he did a mistake, several of them, all of which derives from his desires to do what he wants for himself, but the consequances of these selfishness always reflect back on peter and force him to make the sacrafices he ultimately has to take. Which does remind me of another scene in NWH, where the green goblin awakes in Peter's apartment, and says something along the line of: 'a kid of wants to have it all when the world wants you to choose'. Considering both the goblin's role in the movie and his general personallity as it has been established, i found it quite shocking how well he managed to read Peter's situation and thread of events in this movie.

In order to truly appreciate No Way Home in the future, where would you watch the Raimi and Webb films in MCU order? Before the MCU films? Chronological release order? Before NWH? Would you watch all MCU films, or just ones important to the plot? Would you include the Venom films?

Ultimately because of the whole thing with the villains fates supposed to be ALTERED with curing them, I would imagine even if this was your first Spider-Man movie, watching them all in release order before AND after No Way-Home would still be the best way to experience. Ideally you watch them all before this one, but if you didn't it still encourages you to go back. I love Spider-Man

If I was doing a full mcu watch I’d watch the raimi and Webb films between far from home and no way home. Definitely would skip venom since watching them barely adds anything to no way home.

Another great Spidey vid. Would love to hear your thoughts on animated Spider-Man properties like Into the Spiderverse, Spectacular Spider-Man, etc.

To be clear, there was an Uncle Ben in the MCU. It's only told in subtext and little details (like the fact that Peter's suitcase has Ben's initials on it), but it seems like he died shortly before the events of Civil War. We just know now that he didn't give the "Great Poeer, Great Responsibility" speech.

I finally got to watch it yesterday and I legitimately cried when Garfield saved MJ. Like, that was such a brilliant way to give closure to his character

I remember watching No Way Home in the theaters, and when Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire came on screen, the whole theater erupted with applause.

The way the movie opened up with the disembodied voice of JJJ from the post credit scene of FFH was probably the coldest way a movie has ever opened up. It felt ominous and you just realize Peter’s life is about to completely blow up

wait if Andrew saying "I love you guys" Was improvised, does that mean that Holland and Toby replied with "Thanks." At the same time came from that? I love it.

Dude, you absolutely nailed it and totally get this character who has been so dear to me since childhood. This movie, more than any other really drove home the pure essence of Peter Parker/Spiderman. What a ride

Andrew's charisma outside the movie is too great, it's like he's indirectly the biggest sales agent of the Movie.

I was never sold on the MCU version of Peter(yeah it felt like iron man Jr to me) and these characters but after seeing the character arc completed at the end of no way home I'm sold. This film also to me redeemed Andrew's spiderman after the disaster that was ASM2. I have problems with the story but truly a great film and fan service done correctly.
