Yes suspending him is okay, but then accept his apology and everybody move on in a week or so.

Suspend. Then reinstate him. There's no extended history of this kind of thing. His explanation makes sense.

Jon holds himself to a very high standard - but also calls out young players and colleagues particularly harshly. During the USO he was scathing about a novice commentator and afterwards used his SI column in a most destructive way to this player. Now this. I sincerely hope that both of these commentator/players will be able to return soon and do what they do really well. MOST important to me - there are many female commentators who make constant unpleasant and 'jokey' remarks on air about young male players - bodies, abilities and sex lives - without anyone pulling them up. If we are going to sack men for making mistakes on air or on social media, we must sack the women too. Everyone makes mistakes on impulse. Sure pull them up but please don't destroy them. It's a hard job.

“Hot” mics have been the undoing of many a public figure. Wertheim has been a lifelong credit to sports reporting, and he should not have his career ruined by this one mistake. His apology should be accepted, and he should be reinstated on tennis channel.

Accept his apology and reinstate him!! He's a great broadcaster.

I've grown to enjoy Jon, but I was not a fan of his when he first appeared. Give him a break, accept the apology and move on. Tennis includes on-court fashion so comments, good, bad, other are expected. Ajla Tomljanovic over the years has inspired comments and most everyone took a shot at Andre's 'blue jeans' shorts. Apologies should suffice in situations like this one.

Too much fuzz about nothing. Me and my best friends make fun of each other’s appearance all the time and this only adds up to our friendship.

What is all this fuss about? Wasn't it just a crappy, unfortunate joke that was embarassing enough for him? And WTA didn't wait for a second to make a topic out of this. Instead, what about thinking very deeply about if it's ok to organise their tournaments where human rights including womens' are violated on a completely different level?

Apology accepted and move on. He made a mistake and it was not a major mistake. Suspend him temporarily w out pay, then reinstate and move on forward. He’s a high integrity guy who made a mistake. Let him out of the penalty box and back in the game in the near future.

I’m so surprised by JW saying this … he always seems like a consummate professional. I think the suspension is warranted. Tennis Channel has to send a very clear message that this is unacceptable.

It was a hot mic moment, and in poor taste...but the man apologized. Disappointed that Krejcikova immediately jumped into victim mode, instead of diffusing the over-the-top reactions with a little bit of humor and grace. You're a (well-paid) public figure, get over yourself.

Wertheim was probably the best commentator on TC and TC+. He apologized sincerely for saying something that others have thought or said about her harsh appearance. Krejcikova, like other top-ranked tennis players and professional athletes from other sports, is way over-paid, in my opinion. Still, she doesn't deserve those comments, and he doesn't deserve to be fired. But, Tennis Channel needs better people in charge than they have now. I am not renewing my subscription because of the poor technical quality of their "service." I'll still listen to Wertheim on 60 Minutes. 🙂

The same could be said ("grow up") about Jon's behavior. I bet you must raise your kids to be OK with making fun of other appearances.
@bdrpplir7 күн бұрын
@@rawrss You are missing the point entirely. suspending JW is unnecessary heavy handed censorship. JW Made a comment which I am sure he heartily regrets. Barbora as well as being a brilliant tennis player is also an adult and a grown up. She posted her outrage most eloquently and reasonably on social media. She is a big girl and can fight her own battles without help. If a perceived mean comment is the worst that ever happens to Barbora she will lead a long and happy life. JW was mortified and apologized unreservedly. I am sure at some stage he will reach out to her personally and mend fences. Thats it. 2 adults had a situation they dealt with it. Tennis Channel weighing in with their progressive virtue signaling of their own "woke" agenda is a slippery slope and should not be encouraged. Letting this slid is how the UK ended up with people being fined and jailed for "mean" tweets and "offensive" FB posts.
