I wish all this was explained to me like this 40 years ago. I spent my life being skeptical of religion and it was because no one could explain it to me. Jordan's viewpoint and interpretation resonates with me in a profound way. He may not be a theologian but that is what makes his message so accessible. He get it, and he then shares it.

That's the thing. It was only through him that I started considering religion as a possibility for me. The topic of the video that made me really consider was about judgement and how we all orient towards something. I couldn't disprove it. I tried. Recently, I realized that maybe part of the reason why religion fell out of favor for many is because not many were understanding the messages in it. It's like - "This is a good practice!" Well why? "Because it's been around forever." That's just an example. Basically, can these practices that have been around forever be defended in a way that's satisfactory?

the thing about the bible and God is that, you can approach it and discover revelations from a myriad of different angles. as a scholar of ancient greek and latin, as well as having co-majored in the social sciences (anthropology/archaeology), it is extremely interesting to me from that perspective. Currently reading Exodus to go along with Petersons round table. It is fascinating to me how God chooses not only to deal with Pharaoh but to deal with the aftermath of 430 years of judean slavery both physically and mentally. he uses passover, and all types of other physical commandments to represent something symbolic and thus create a reinforcing psyche, setting it up to resonate over the future generations of the jewish people. If we know one thing about God, its that he plays the long game.

Oh man... Discussion like this is such a wonderful thing. It reminds me of campfire talks with my dad and my grandpa. I was the youngest so I'd usually just sit and listen. They didn't speak quite as eloquently, and much of the conversations were swapping stories about life experiences, but there were times that deep discussions would take place and I was gifted such wisdom from the things I heard, what they shared. I'm thankful for that time I had with them and realize what a blessing those seemingly simple moments were now that I'm a bit older. I appreciate being able to sit in on discussions like this one as well. I truly wish there were more of this in the world today. I wish more people realized what a blessing a simple discussion is and what wisdom can be gained from sitting quietly, listening to others. Thank you for sharing this.

In the UK form of governance it is my understanding that there is the monarch, the House of Lords, the House of Commons/MP's. The MP's are elected by the people/commoners. Therefore the MP's are the 'trusted servant's' of the people to represent their views. (I sometimes seriously question if MP's see themselves as such). They are entrusted by their electorate to look after the electorate's best interests.

In Biblical Hebrew, the name for womb is 'compassion', (if I am understanding a Rabbi David Fohman correctly). But "wombness" has a ruthlessness to it, as most embryos do not make it past the first stages. Even if mercy of the womb is unconditionally and infinitely giving, it is not really just sugar and spice and everything nice. Viability itself is being first judged at the level of the womb. Death is the greater compassion for those deemed non-viable by the womb itself, by the woman at the level of bodily, mostly non-conscious decision. The judgment of the womb precedes the judgment of justice like Rosh Hashana precedes Yom Kippur day of judgment by 10 days. The joy is of a womb that deems the person within fit for life at the beginning of a life; the day of atonement and repentance is for how we fall short of the promise of the womb. Likewise, justice has the element of compassion within it. The arbitrary severity of the rule giver's authoritarianism is a merciful reprieve from the cruelty of living in a state of chaos and in a nature red in tooth and claw, a world of all against all.

Certainly rules are needed, the issue comes when the conscientiousness is misguided conscientiousness. If the rules are the wrong rules, or even a mix of right rules with wrong rules, then history proves eventually they will be dismantled with the replacement of the rules-based macro system with a more "lawless" macro system. Eventually this creates chaos, and so a rules-based system again prevails - yet imperfect, and so the pendulum continues to swing.

Thanks for saying this, because these idiots are trying to skip the exciting bit of the process. But in all seriousness, you *cannot* just skip the anarchy stage. And if this round table of clowns thinks they’re guaranteeing thrones in the coming dystopian landscape because they’ve spat out a couple of 5th grade truths- thennnnn they’re _sorely_ mistaken. Two problems with their delusions of grandeur. 1) None of these fellas are visionary. In the least. Hell, Jordan’s middle name is Shillerton, no? Sometimes I have to echo check the room when I watch his videos because I can’t count the times I sit there retorting ‘I’ve said that myself 🤔’… 2) These processes aren’t driven by vision alone, but the Promethean Will required to *enact* that vision. And I don’t see a second Prometheus among this gaggle of yester-conservative Priests- do you? 😅

“Mercy in the micro and justice in macro”. What a mundane thing to come up with. That’s not what spiritualism or wisdom are about: in observing one self honestly one comes to see sins then understand the right path ardently. Bringing people to this understanding is the only way and justice (in the sense used here) is just failure to do so. Justice then is practical: lock up someone so they can’t do harm, for example.

There has never been a government that shares the same amount of wealth with the people, as occurs with the rulers of governments. That is hyperbole. It's such a backwards direction of interpretation. Nowadays we have so much more texts with much better and simpler abstracts to explain these things - psychology, values, virtues - and yet some people, more conservative ones I'm guessing, still insist on the reinterpretation of bible, like it's still the only one book that's available. And I get the value of that, because it's history, tradition and rituals and people are much more willing to fight and die for that, and there is still a majority of world population willing to die for a different ancient book that has served their ancestors, so that's useful in this context. But it's mostly just sad and scary.

I think that his most recent difficulties have more to do with alleged unprofessional behavior than it does criticism of the government per se, doesn't it? I mean, "Poor people eat too much food" or "climate doesn't exist" aren't direct critiques of any government, are they? I lost interest in what he is saying when I checked out his assertion that "lack of serotonin is the cause of depression"; it turns out there is no scientific basis for that whatsoever. Then I looked into him further only to discover his claims, "I am an evolutionary biologist," and "I am a neuroscientist" to both be false: he's always only had a doctorate in cognitive psychology. I've always intensely disliked and mistrusted paucity of intellectual integrity... ..."There is a false saying: 'How can someone who cannot save himself save others?' Supposing I have the key to your chains, why should your lock and my lock be the same?" ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
@brindlebriar Жыл бұрын
I've admired Jordan since he first stepped onto the public scene, but lately he's drawing wrong conclusions, imo. The authoritarian insanity of the left seems to be driving him to a reactionism of shrinking towards an authoritarian Right. - of looking for fire to fight fire. - of retreating into the pyramid where he hopes he and his friends can serve as the All-seeing Eye. 'The people had their shot;' I hear him saying lately, 'and they came up with Leftism, and _that's not good enough;_ so we, the reciprocally-appointed intellectual elites must take over and rule benevolently, by our superior wisdom.' Taking the side of Hamilton against Jefferson. Didn't he advocate, regarding Twitter, that most people should effectively no longer be allowed to tweet? That all tweets except those of 'blue check' people should be auto-filtered out? And that no one should be able to express an opinion anonymously? What's happening is that the chaos of the present is triggering an instinct to retreat to the more familiar past. But that won't work. You can never go back. And who cares if everyone has their own gender? Nobody will be able to keep track, so it will become meaningless anyway. The problem resolves itself if allowed to reach completion. And what _is_ that process? It looks a lot like a manifestation of the general pattern of individuation, to me. What the people in this circle don't seem to understand is that what got us here won't keep us here. It's _already_ not keeping us here. It's never the case that what's worked thus far, will keep working. The present always collapses under the weight of its faults if it doesn't perpetually re-invent itself. It's the steady improvement that gives people enough hope to put up with the faults of their present structures. It's the knowing that they are temporary and in process of improvement. Otherwise, they'd be soul-killingly unacceptable. Nor do they seem to understand how bad 'here' is. Maybe they've been reading Steven Pinker's nonsense about how it's better to be suicidal with smart phones and longer life spans than happy without smart phones and with shorter life spans. A similar reactionism against the utopianism of the Left has caused Jordan and many dark web personalities to be anti-utopian. My God, man! If you're not aiming at the best you can imaginable, what are you aiming at? The idea that, since some people aimed for what they thought would be perfect, and instead produced Hell, therefore one shouldn't aim for perfection is... insane. What are you gonna aim at? 90% good and 10% bad? I've never heard of anything as defeatist as that. That's like saying, if there were a room full of babies about to get slaughtered, 'Well, we should save some of them, but not all. Leave a few to maintain a balance between good and evil. And if _nobody's_ getting tortured we'll have to torture a few." Well, that Eastern 'Middle-Path' shit of 'striking a balance between good and evil' is _definitely_ not Christian. Definitely not the religion of Jesus. He was an absolutist for good, and a Utopian. He called it by such names as, 'The Kingdom of Heaven.' It's time to re-imagine the species from first principles, rather than from our current structures. Michael Malice is on the right track with Anarchism. But these gentlemen are retreating into centralized power to oppose the policies of centralized power that they don't like. But there's no moral basis for the centralized power itself. A 'social contract' imposed without consent is no contract. That's a euphemism for slavery. No matter how wise you think your decisions will be, you don't have the right to make them for others. It's a moral issue; has nothing to do with practical outcome. But no practical outcome can be good enough if it is accomplished immorally. It may be better, temporarily, than an even worse evil. But we did that already. We can't stay here. Every situation short of perfection leads a gas chamber on a leash, and to say, 'we've come this far, but no further,' is to walk into it. It works that way, because that's a moral failure. It's to accept the evils of the current situation. To lack the courage to try to destroy them. To try to keep a civilization that has gone wicked from collapsing is to pay the price in virgins to keep the dragon satisfied. But you don't have the right to sacrifice even 1 virgin to save 1,000 people. Not even one. You're supposed to fight the dragon. Do you diver the train to kill 1 person in order to save 5? No. You're not supposed to do that. It's not a numbers game. It's not about outcomes. It's a morality game. You must not participate in evil. You must not uphold a structure, for convenience, that is not perfect. That's the broad, easy road of the wicked. You're supposed to modify it until it's perfect. And if it becomes too resistant to the modifications of improvement, then it has to be destroyed, even at the cost of everyone's lives. Better that we ALL die than that we accept evil. To _be_ evil, yes, but not to _accept_ it. Not to settle for it. And anything that is not perfect, is partly evil. Don't retreat into the evil you know, in fear of the evil you don't know. Instead, always look for the good you don't know yet.
