305 with a decent cam, intake carb and headers can be a peppy lil motor
@glennmanchester56962 ай бұрын
Yes sir they can be fun for sure it's the heads on them thats the biggest problem trying to make any Power if you can jump that hurdle which is not always easy due to the small bore and shrouding the valves then yeah. 300 hp is easily achieved and that's decent in something fairly lighter with a stick for sure and of course a limited slip rearend it may not be a torque monster of course but it's got the same stroke as a 350 same everything In the bottom end as a 350 actually except the pistons of course so they can be really a fun for cheap motor and take all kinda beating on lol

I would run the stock manifolds because it is going to be a cruiser daily driver. Lesz noise and maintenance. Fenderwell headers are awesome, if you decide to go that route too.

Yep they are virtually idiot proof the way they were designed was just that way small bore and heads that flowed terribly to the point that if you put the car in neutral and floored it it would rev to 4500 and stop due to It running out of air due to the small valves in the heads so like I said virtually idiot proof it was designed so it would not breath in enough air to over rev and self destruct .. lol it was made for one thing get people from point a to point b and be reliable that's why the bottom end is the exact same as big brother 350 Same everything down below the pistons all 350 parts and it being a small block chevy and being well idiot proof then it did what it was designed to do for a very very long time as a rule

Get long bolts that fit the trans mount holes, cut the hex head off and cut a slot in the end. Put them into the engine and use them to slide the tranny onto the engine, get a couple of bolts in the trans and then remove the slotted bolt. Easy to mount the trans that way.

The mouse / cat food thing reminds me of what happened to my brother. He had rebuilt the motor in his snow machine. When he went to start it for the winter he couldn't budge the engine - stuck hard. I think it was the carbs that he pulled, to find the engine FULL OF CAT FOOD. Everything is stored in an old machine shed and the cats were obviously not doing their jobs, as mice had packed the entire exhaust system FULL of cat food, right up to the cylinders! He had to make an insurance claim on it, to get the engine rebuilt again.

Never pay full price for anything Lordco has. They will knock $ off of everything if you ask. You just need to get to know one of the workers by going there a lot, which I know you will, and they will put your purchases on a account of someone for cheaper prices. You would be surprised how much actually comes off of certain items. I'm rebuilding a '71 Camaro and I've been going in and out of there all summer and they price all my stuff with a V.I.P. account.
