Great video! I now understand how the KA "lifter" works and the cause of the dreaded rocker arm knock.

To easily diagnose rod knock, just disable spark on the offending cylinder with engine running at idle. If knock goes away, it’s the rod.

When to the wrecking yard to pick up some rocker arms how to i know if their bad? Or good?? Found a set that had no play on them when installed but when i took them off the head the little plunger on the rocker are very stiff. Is that normal?

Can you do a video on the disassembly of one? Also, are the good ones those that are springy and the bad ones are those that are not? Or is that because during disassembly the oil drains out of some and will not be springy until the get re pressurized with oil again?

I can certainly do a disassembly video, although I can say most of it is going to me cussing and fighting with that little retention ring, its a complete PITA to remove. But also, its because the lifters are not designed, nor is it recommended by Nissan, to disassemble them. They are non serviceable. I took this one apart to try and determine the cause of failure. "Failed" rockers on a SOHC KA are ones that collapse and do not rebound/re-inflate/spring-back/ are stuck. Ones that do not collapse are filled with oil, since they are hydraulically adjusted by oil pressure. You can squeeze the oil out and they will then be springy. The one in this video was a stuck lifter. It was fully collapsed and would not extend out. This is sally because trash of some sort has scared up the lifter bore and hung it up. Ill try to do a comparison video in the next week. Thank you for the question

Are you planning to reuse this rocker arm?
@jessesgarage61834 жыл бұрын
I am not planning on reusing this particular rocker at this time. I have several sets and the set that this one came from had multiple that were stuck/bad.
