Adding onto the veganism can feed into racism thing. A lot of people ignore how much indigenous culture practices revolves around hunting and preparing meat and animal by-products and there is no way for you to separate the two. It's not just food, it's clothing, songs, and so much more that would be lost, diluted, or couldn't be practised anymore if indigenous people went vegan in the western sense. Why the vegans think it's okay to shame indigenous people for keeping their culture alive when most of its been bulldozed to the ground is beyond me.
@BRIXXANY14 жыл бұрын
I agree and if America was still a nation of only indigenous people I can guarantee that animals wouldn’t be bred to just be slaughtered. From what I’ve learned, Indigenous people respect everything that the earth has to offer. I watched a video (I don’t remember the name of it :/) where this reporter followed this tribe around to see how they live and one part stuck out to me. They have a ritual where a bull or cow (I can’t remember) literally offers itself from the rest of the pack to be killed for the better of the land, community, etc. it’s a respected and practiced tradition.
@jak_934 жыл бұрын
@@BRIXXANY1 I'm Australian so my perspective more comes from what I know of our own Indigenous people. But, I wholly agree Indigenous people have far more respect and understanding of the land.
@TheCinnamondemon4 жыл бұрын
strong disagree.. just bc its your "culture" doesnt mean its ok. some cultures had human sacrifice. my culture in west africa has female circumcision. other cultures involve brutal racism and colonization. "culture" in and of itself is not a virtue.
@TheCinnamondemon4 жыл бұрын
@@BRIXXANY1 but i do agree with the fact that indigenous cultures have a much more profound respect for humans, animals, and the land. veganism wouldn't be such a pressing issue if the country was still largely indigenous because we wouldn't have this gross over-consumerism that compels us to breed and torture animals, killing our environment and health in the process, to keep up with the demand
@jak_934 жыл бұрын
@@TheCinnamondemon No it's not but, a large part of Indigenous activism is about regaining autonomy and the right to be the ones to change their culture and not outside forces. So for me, it does come off as very colonialist or racist to be telling an indigenous person to change their culture because its unpalatable to a vegan - if it just involves things like hunting animals for food or as a part of cultural practices. Yes, outside pressure is needed to stop inhumane practices such as FGM and human sacrifice, but if there is reform in other areas needed it is not our place as outsiders to dictate if and how that reform happens. Reform should happen from within as those within are best equipped to reform the culture whilst preserving it as well.

“You do need to to aspire to do anything.” I, too, have been thinking about this recently. Humans weren’t put on Earth with all the societal constructs and nuisances we have today. People were able to be valuable and see themselves as such in a time where all they accomplished was eating, staying alive, and providing for their circle. That’s being said, living like cavemen isn’t the answer. But everyone agrees that the best things come when you aren’t looking for them, a good mindset turns everything to gold, etc. so why don’t more of us actually do what we love and let the rest happen? Some people don’t have the financial luxury but at the same time so many middle class white kids go to college just because and end up living lives they never dreamed about, only settled for. My goal is to start living like nobody ever told me who I was or should be.

It IS selfish to bring a child into the world and be upset that they’re on drugs or become deviant based on the parents standards. Because that child is not a reflection nor should be a direct result of the parents expectations. It’s selfish to think people should be who we want them to be for us. The world does not value life, nor treat it as a gift, when we’re all witness to senseless violence against our own species.

Wow & i thought i was going out sad bc i have no “dreams or aspirations”, or a dream job, or bc i have no desire to start a business. I just want to be able to take care of myself & enjoy what i enjoy. Also don’t necessarily want kids either! I’m not completely against it but if i don’t, I wont be sad. & also done believing in men. I’ve always referred to myself as a hopeless romantic, but i now look at that as exactly as it states- Hopeless.
