@@northparentertainment7402 Even in 2001 there were no other radio shows that talked about little hairy chinese kids, geriatric genitals that looked like split tennis balls, the meaning behind the word "Cock" or any of the other twaddle uttered on xfm on saturday afternoons. This show was unique then as it is now.

Dan1984 I agree. The Office is their most famous and acclaimed piece of work but I can listen to the xfm shows endlessly. They shat out a diamond with these recordings without even trying - in fact, actively NOT trying. The unplanned shoddiness with Karl's buffoonery give this a charm I have yet to find in any other TV show, podcast, or any format of comedy. And despite the lack of scripting or organisation it is endlessly quotable. It's genius.

@Samuel Newton I couldn't have said it better myself. This show, plus their other podcasts, interviews and general chats, are some of the funniest things ever recorded. You can go back to them time and time again, and they still make you howl with laughter, just like they did when you first discovered them. Karl Pilkington is one of the greatest finds of all time, and Ricky and Steve saw his potential, and recognised that they had a gem on their hands. So they effectively sat back and let Karl be Karl, as they knew nothing they could come up with for the show would be as funny as letting him be himself, with them reacting to it. It was a good call, and Karl has been a national treasure ever since. If Ricky and Steve did nothing else with their careers, the fact they introduced Karl Pilkington to the world, would be good enough for me haha. Thanks for the comment, @Samuel Newton. All the best. Dan

Funny enough, Karl is confusing this song with "Save The Last Dance For Me" by the Drifters. Doc Pomus (who wrote the song) had polio and was in a wheelchair watching his wife dance, which inspired the lyrics to the song. With every absurd load of bollocks that Karl says, there's always a hint of truth, or at least a piece of media he read/saw somewhere that he is thinking of.

I think Karl thinks this because of the song's sound. It can be that calm, lovely song Clapton was going for or it can be the sad, beautiful, uplifting song Karl is thinking of. I think the song would be better if Karl was right though I don't think he is but he's a genius for thinking that in my opinion and putting that idea out there whether it's true or not. It doesn't always matter if things are true if they buzz you and make you think.
