To add on to the DCU: Black Adam is actually the main villain in the Shazam comics, and the plan was for The Rock to play him in Shazam 2 and obviously be defeated, but because he wanted to be, y’know, The Rock, he ended up singlehandedly killing the DCU by being so insistent on being this unbeatable figure.

That was not the reason. The rock said in many interviews that he felt the tone of those Shazam movies just did not fit the tone of his black Adam movie. You know what. I agree with him on that. As a fan of the captain marvel character. That tone was trash. Captain marvel was never a goofy character. He may have some child like moments like when he fanboy out by meeting Superman. But he is mostly a serious character. The rock was correct. Also the rock was the only one trying hard to bring back Henry Calvil Superman. I don't understand throwing the rock under the bus.
@2301WAYNE2 күн бұрын
The Black Adam on marvel standards is damn good, as for being accurate I feel like DC live-action movies hardly does justice to the comic books. All of the Batman live-action movies like The Dark Knight Trilogy make Batman way too stupid and uncool. I would say compare to that Netflix Death Note 's Light and L has been done way more justice to the Character, I mean Batman Villains have been done justice except for few like Ra's Al Ghul and Talia Al Ghul but Batman's character has not, even though I still enjoy them as movies despite being terrible adaptations. The only DC comic book accurate movies are Superman And Superman 2. Other than that most are just enjoyable movies. I think Dwayne Johnson understood that so he was trying to bring back the fan favourite for DC and everyone else.
@Linklex72 күн бұрын
@@BigdogGaming-sm3ljIt doesn’t matter. Black Adam is NOT a Superman. He was a Shazam villain. Black Adam exist for Shazam to kick his butt. It’s kinda eye opening if you read Arnold Schwarzenegger’s memoir he talks about looking at his good and bad reviews and how it shaped his projects going forward. He also talks about wanting to find good scripts and good directors and working with people to help sculpt the best career he could. When I look at The Rock he seems to be surrounded by yes men his whole career
@TheTrainFan9Күн бұрын
When you compare the two, it's not even close. Schwarzenegger worked with James Cameron (three times), John McTiernan (twice), John Milius, Paul Verhoeven, Walter Hill, even comedy luminaries like Ivan Reitman. He knew exactly the right scripts to pick for him and had enough pull to get these amazing directors for them. The Rock, on the other hand, has never had a script for any of his action movies that were as tight as Arnold's (except for maybe The Rundown), plus he's never had a director on any of his projects that might stand up to him and say, "Hey Rocky, what you're doing ain't working, let's try something else." It's hardly a surprise that the majority of Rock's filmography is forgettable slop.

The Henry Cavill thing was so weird too, cause Black Adam is a Shazam villain. Black Adam was suppose to be the villain in Shazam 1 and later part 2, but Rock kept vetoing it cause he didn’t want to be a villain who lost. Then when it was time to fight a hero he decided Shazam was too small for him so he wanted Superman. It’d be like Joaquin Phoenix playing Joker but deciding he wants to fight Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman instead. No, sir, you’re a Batman villain, fight your appropriate hero please.

My favorite ego trip fun fact about DWAYNE is that he produced "Fighting with my Family", the biopic of Saraya, a very popular wrestling star that went by "Paige" back then in her WWE days. Dwayne not only produced the movie, he inserted himself as Paige's favorite superstar growing up, he made cameos acting as himself during the movie including the pivotal scene where he personally tells Paige she will debut in live TV. The movie starts with his WWE theme and ends with the "where are they now" cards revealing that he basically became Hollywood's biggest shit. He produced the biopic of an underdog star and made it about himself.

Your family has great taste in wrestlers - also love that your mom didn't see it for Undertaker (if you want to do another collab with your sister, "How The Internet [Wrestling Community] Fell Out Of Love With Undertaker could be a great offshoot, if a bit niche). And just to drive the point home, the Bloodline storyline ran for just over 4 years - started in the early days of the pandemic, just after Roman Reigns returned after battling leukemia a second time. Some of WWE's finest storytelling in the modern age. They did not need The Rock at all; thank goodness he didn't completely derail the Wrestlemania buildup.

I think the only dishonest framing Cassie had about The Rock's return to WWE is that she undersells how successful it was once he became a bad guy. In wrestling, when a good guy is resoundingly rejected by the fans, you make them a bad guy which usually gives them more creative freedom and helps endear them to the fans. This helped The Rock at the start of his career and he used the same ol' reliable trick when he came back. And, BOY, did it work. Him becoming a bad guy allowed him to raise the stakes of the Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns and he genuinely helped elevate the feud leading to WrestleMania. Plus, he started doing the same things that he did as The Rock in the past and the fans were EATING it up. If you look up clips of his segments you can see how entertained and engaged the fans are, with him routinely receiving loud ovations in these segments. And contrary to what Cassie says around 24:40, fans are actually intrigued to see what he does next in the current storyline. So much so that it isconsidered a given that he will wrestle at next year's WrestleMania with many fans theorising how he will fit in the main event picture. I felt the success of his return could have been a neat way to wrap up the video as, given that the whole theme is how Dwayne Johnson attempts to over-PR is image has caused a backlash, his most recent success being that he foregoes that and allows himself to be the bad guy for the sake of quality entertainment would have been a fitting resolution.

As someone who loved wrestling and barely keeps up with it anymore, I must give credit where it is due. The Rock fully deserved the backlash after he took Cody's spot initially but to his credit, once the elements of the story changed and Cody got it back with The Rock turning heel, he really carried that story as he embraced the heat he was getting. He played his role well and breathed life into what was your vanilla "good guy wins" storyline. As a former fan, I think The Rock's addition to the Bloodline was a positive overall.

Girl skipped COMPLETELY over his acting in Scorpion king and Doom lmfao 😂 😂😂 Love the video and you made some really good points. I think his fame and ego is also substantially inflated due to the fanbase. I loved wrestling and still enjoy it for the cheap thrills from time to time but wrestling fans are some of the most ignorant and tone deaf people alive and thats made the entire industry flourish 😅

not wrestling fans, they’re marks.

I've always seen him as Rocky Maivia & have never taken him seriously. I like the 70s/80s wrestling more though. Loved The Undertaker & Paul Bearer.

omg sistersays!!! I love when sisters look so much alike but just like SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT and we have to figure out what it is. (ps Kayla has the vibe of someone who loves you and loves that you love this boring thing but it's so boring)

My partner is a professional wrestler and the behind the scenes stuff is scarier than just the Vince McMahon stuff. Loved the wrestling segment in this video in particular!

This was well-researched and high quality as always, but also adorable and casual. Also, I can`t help but wonder if by the time we get to RPDR season 53, if producer-editor storytelling choices and the growth of queens deliberately participating in "making good tv" will have evolved to the point of becoming straight-up kayfabe? I guess we will find out if we manage to survive the climate wars.

Maybe his upcoming Benny Safdie film will change things around for him; we'll have to wait and see.
