First thing I want to say is a big congratulations to you, Kaylee, for the shop growing to the point of being a major distributor. Maybe it's not a big deal, but it seems like it's a big accomplishment for the shop, so yay! And this video was really interesting. Flipping plants seems like it's a pretty big gamble so hearing your insight regarding the practice is pretty cool. Seems like it would be a safer bet to chose a product that is more stable ie less able to die, but then maybe that's the draw of it? Idk, the video was just thought provoking. :)

My understanding is that when using 3% hydrogen peroxide, you just dilute it with water and it’s safe. 10% of your liquid would be hydrogen peroxide, and 90% water.

Here in Australia with our strict biosecurity, local nurseries grow out batches of special "rare" release plants. They then release them to our local hardware warehouse in identifiable pots and really comparable price for a first release. Flippers will literally take the photo of the plant in store, with store branding in the background Less than an hour after the store unboxed the plants. They buy all they can and jack the price x3 or x4. They don't even deny it half the time.

See... that.. really disgusts me.. and breaks my heart. Ugh, why can't everyone be excited ... for someone to get... a plant they love.. and want to take care of... and enjoy... without people taking advantage of that... 🤦🏼♀️ I just sold a cutting of my monstera albo(easily a cutting i could get for 300+$), to someone in a town close to mine... for literally 100$... and I'm happy about it.. they're happy about it.. I think I was equally excited as she was... because .... I was able to give someone access to their dream plant.. 🤷🏼♀️🤩 and she was just so grateful and excited. Mamei and Plowmanii both climb when they are young. They change growth pattern to creeping when they develop cataphyls. I'm a beginner plant enthusiast and I'm interested in big-leaved philodentrons. I don't like variegations, there can be little white or silver in the leaves. Different shades of green are ok. It is important for me to know whether a plant is creeping or climbing and of course learn to recognize and distinguish plants from each other. So yes, I am interested in hearing more about these plants.

About the Hoya propagation, I have maybe 30 species of Hoya and find that the more sturdy/woody ones likes to be propagated in LECA, even nodes without leaves. For the more herbaceous ones, like the polyneura, Bella, multiflora, they rot so easily that I just had success in water for the first roots to appear and then switched to soil. But the more woody ones, definitely LECA is a nice way of doing, even just coconut chips lightly moistened works as well
@safri85duo2 жыл бұрын
The one on the left, lighter green is Mamei. The veining on the leaves are closer. So you can tell the difference between Mamei & Plowmanii as Plowmani's veins are further apart making the leaves look more pillowy. Also, Mamei are crawlers not climbers.

Just catching up on the vids after touching down in Manchester from my holiday. I am so shocked you mentioned people flip so close to you sending out. I am one of the clients from you and the seller in Ecuador. I do not let a plant go out until healthy roots and shoots turn up. I can't imagine buying a plant with import roots and to me it's very obvious those sellers not rehabbing long enough. Luckily I have money to waste and enjoy the process of rehabbing but I agree with you 100% you shouldn't be flipping just for money reasons. Many are with me over 8 months (I still have plants from last april and July from you) and I wish people would realise how much effort goes into rehabbing. I think the video will be helpful for those that are maybe new to plant buying and aren't aware what import roots/damage look like. You might have seen on FB that people are now questioning any suspicious sales so it's very topical right now!

It is an easy way to make money- flipping plants, but really I can't do it and feel good in my heart. I posted a couple months ago that the local grocery store had Ficus shiveriana for $7! A lady I know in town that also sells plants said on a personal message that she intended on going and buying ALL of them so she could resell for $25!! I got so mad, I ran to the store and bought all but one so she couldn't. I wound up selling them for $12 a month later- id intended on selling them for the price that I paid w tax $7.50 - but by the time anyone bought any- I'd had them for a month, they'd grown, I'd fertilized, etc - so I charged a bit more.. but not the $25 she was going to sell at!!! I also notified our local group what she was up to- I'm not sure if she got in any trouble. The only other reason i buy at a grocery store and resell is if i find a plant half dead there and get it back to happy land. Otherwise- I want local people to be able to buy plants for the cheap prices they can find them at the big box stores - even if its plants I have in my greenhouse that cost more. I'll even be nice and point it out - it usually wins me a sale later on something the big box stores DON'T have! Its just being a good person ❤
