One thing I forgot to mention in the FAQ is "can you substitute anything for the psyllium husk?" The answer is, "vital wheat gluten, maybe...". I tried subbing in 1 tablespoon of vital wheat gluten for the 1 tablespoon of psyllium husk. The results were pretty chewy, but no flavor of psyllium husk. So, if you are put off by the flavor of psyllium husk, I'd recommend trying 1/2 TB of VWG. Also, I found that you can add up to 1 tsp of cheddar powder to give these a nice flavor without making the batter too thick. Finally, if you have any lumps or ridges on your tortilla after it cooks, you can pat those down with your fingertips while it's still warm. I don't recall if I mentioned that in the video.

I cannot comment directly to YT videos, but I can reply to someone else's, so thanks for this comment. As a Milwaukee resident, I want to share a relatively new resource that you, as a Waukesha resident, might not be aware of: the grocery store, Cermak, imported from Chicago is located on Miller Park Way, not far from the freeway's ball park exit. They specialize in imports from various cultural cuisines, and that branch has a tortilla kitchen that makes the most-delicious tortillas I have tasted. Yes, they are not keto-approved, but I still use them as an occasional 'cheat' food. They also have an imported olive bar near the deli, excellent sausages, and a superior produce department that features unadvertised, well-priced vegetables, berries, and fruit. The Barkley location does not have the freshly-made (often, still warm) tortillas, but they do stock 2-dozen packages from the larger MPWay store.

Steve, I just discovered that this tortilla recipe actually lowers my blood sugar. I am a type 2 diabetic and have trouble with high morning blood sugars. This morning I ate one of these tortillas with two eggs and some cheese as the filling. My blood sugar dropped from 133 to 117 in one hour and to 105 in two hours. For kicks, I ate another tortilla at lunch. My blood sugar started at 119 and in one hour it was 94. These tortillas work better than metformin!

@@SeriousKeto I am hooked! My fasting blood sugar was 20 points lower this morning! My blood sugar was 125 after lifting weights this morning. I ate my morning burrito and two hours later my blood sugar is 93. I never have numbers this low in the morning! After doing a bit of research, I am convinced the whey protein causes my pancreas to produce more insulin than it normally does. It appears the extra fiber helps with fasting glucose.

I just made one and used 1/2 tblsp each of lupin and vital wheat gluten. I used 1 tblsp almond flour and 1/2 tblsp of vanilla whey protein. I put mine on parchment paper and microwaved. Once out, I added spices and fried it lightly on stovetop in lightly buttered pan. Not bad! I think they would be best for enchiladas but as a quick lunch or breakfast they would be ok. Ok, I must add- I just made one for hubby and added 1/2 tblsp cheddar cheese powder. Half and half instead of HWC.after frying it lightly I added leftover taco filling and added avocado, mexi mix cheese, green onions and sour cream. He loved it!

So far, I've been happy with the Egg Life tortillas from Walmart that are zero carbs and come in different favors, but I'd like to try these. I'm not a big bread/ flour lover, but I sure do miss tacos and quesadillas. I think we stay on our low carb lifestyle better when we can substitute our favorites with healthier options, than just avoiding those meals. Avoidance makes me break down and eat what it's healthy for me. These healthier version of the foods we love, allows me to enjoy food again and relax knowing it's okay!

Translation from the original recipe: Tortilla-empanada ... Argentine Mexican fusion The tortillas: A recipe for 9 tortillas 2 tablespoons almond flour 2 tablespoons zero-carbohydrate protein powder with a neutral taste Half a teaspoon of baking powder A tablespoon of psyllium A little salt A little sweetener is allowed Mix dry and add about 70 ml of cream 38 Mix and add 2 eggs Mix until uniform In a flat plastic plate (well ... those of the kids, from Ikea?) Pour 2 tbsp. Make sure the batter is spread over most of the plate and put in the microwave for 50 seconds. Repeat X 9 I like to fry the tortillas for 10 seconds on each side on an empty pan. It closes them and gives the color of a stunning crepe. For the minced meat: About 500 grams of minced meat Half an onion 3-4 cloves of garlic Paprika, salt, oregano and parsley Canned tomato sauce with as few additives as possible (check that the amount of carbohydrates does not exceed 4 grams of carbohydrate per 100 grams) 3-4 hard-boiled eggs About 10 olives (the eggs and olives are what give me the taste of the empanada for the minced meat ...) Chop the onion and garlic and fry in a pot with olive oil Add the minced meat and cook well. Add spices and tomato sauce. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once ready, cut the eggs and olives and mix with the bolognese.

I split two polish sausages almost all the way through and heat them with the cheese flat across them in the casserole. Then I apply the sauerkraut and if I'm really into authentic taste, it may need a little mustard and caraway (instead of rye bread), but it generally needs to be at least ground up. Hi Steve, just made it with coconut cream and vital wheat gluten. Bravo!!! Thanks to TJ and low carb dad. 🇳🇮 I found that letting it sit for a minute helped loosen the tortilla, just like loosening a cake out of the pan. You wait a little bit for the tortilla to finish cooking. after the microwave finishes, it will continue cooking 1/3 of the time that it cooked in the microwave). Cakes loosen better from the pan after waiting 5 to 10 minutes We are having burritos tomorrow night. I was starting to get anxious about having to make tortilla dough. Now I see how simple the tortillas are, I am excited about tomorrow nights dinner.

Btw I love your videos and your knowledgeable way in the kitchen. A heads up on this particular product. Lupini's used to be sold back in the day everywhere. The Italians would pickle them and sell them in jars. They have a high allergy profile. So be careful giving this to little kids that won't know how to express that they are experiencing an allergic reaction. And or with guests in your house who you may not be aware might have an issue once they eat this. But this, is probably the most comprehensive answer to making low carb tortillas! I really love this recipe!

I laugh every time I see this video because of how much easier it is now that you gave us the idea of using the silicone rounds (rather than the plate). Even YOU grow and evolve, and it's really helpful for us to see the differences. I have really enjoyed making these, and I like them even better after frying them on each side in olive oil, to give them a browned, toasty exterior (while retaining their durability and elasticity!) This recipe opened up my favorite food (Mexican food) to me again! Thank you!

Okay, ionosphere you said no to psyllium husk powder. But it was all I had and I was dreaming of one of these for lunch. It came out a bit thicker batter so I added more cream and had to spread it out on my plate. I added 5 drops of corn bread seasoning. It was still a little doughy in the middle so I put it in a frying pan with a little avo oil just to finish cooking. I topped it with a tbsp of refried beans, taco meat, green chilies, cheese. Removed from pan and added guac and salsa. It’s thick but not chewy. Quite tasty! I think I’ll add cumin to the batter next time and probably try watering it down a bit for thinner batter. I’ll have to get some psyllium husk for another try but I’m not unhappy with this first try! Thanks for a good tasting, easy, low carb tortilla. I’ll probably try a bigger batch so I can use these when I go hiking and keep some in the freezer for even faster lunch.

I saw your video months ago but I'm horrible about making comments. I'm more the thumbs up kinda person. But this recipe and all the updates on it have been a real game changer. I've been brought up on beans and tortillas and these fit the bill. They really do remind me of the tortillas we made with masa harina. So now that I found I can eat soybeans and these tortillas, I'm back! Another point about making homemade foods is that I found when buying low carb tortillas, they make me inflamed and gain weight. So, thank you for making this and other wonderful videos. Loved the pogo whisk but to be balanced in my spending (because I love kitchen gadgets) I have to tell myself that I've lived without it so far and I can continue to. But in all honesty, I have it on my Amazon wish list. Maybe my husband will see it and get it for me. I better leave some really good HINTS.😜

Runs to the kitchen to try this out. And all I have is Phyllium Husk Powder. So I try something new with what I got. I went with 1 Tbsp of egg white powder. 1/2 Tbsp of xanthum gum and then added heavy cream until about the right consistency. Probably about 3 Tbsp. Poured it on a plate and in the microwave for 90 seconds. I was very impressed with what I got. Going to add some corn flavor extract for my next try.

Worked a charm, thank you. I made a couple of changes. Used Hemp seeds (which has a coarse consistency) because I didn't have whey protein isolate in the cupboard. Also my psyllium husk was the powder variety but not superfine. Maybe those changes balanced out because it still turned out well. Also had to add a bit of water and milk probably because I didn't use a proper tablespoon measure and it wasn't runny enough. Added a bit of salt and garlic powder. Needed 150 sec in stages with some checks.

There are actually good reasons for wanting to make a bunch ahead of time. A pan of enchiladas or other casserole type dishes is my most common reason for doing so. Also tried this on a silicone mat instead of a plate. Worked perfectly. No crustification, no sticking at all. This allowed me to make a much larger tortilla which I've never achieved using dough and a tortilla press even though I have a 10" press. This is great functionality for wraps or burritos. Used 1/2 T oat fiber and 1tsp coconut flour in place of almond flour, reduced psyllium by 3/4 tsp. (so 2-1/4 tsp instead of 1 T) Worked the same as almond flour best I could tell with no other changes. I will be testing these in enchiladas and will post my results. (Tortillas with psyllium usually end up dissolving into a gel in enchiladas). Hoping this will work on enchiladas!

My silicone discs should be arriving tonight from Amazon. I'll be playing around this week to see if there's a faster way to bulk make these.
@shawnabeals92613 жыл бұрын
@@SeriousKeto these worked in enchiladas ok. They didn't turn into gel. They didn't have the best taste or texture for that application though. I tried an almond flour one as well as the coconut flour/oat fiber version I mentioned above. They are ok for tacos but definitely need some seasoning. The flavor is almost absent. But what I like most is that you can make a really big size "tortilla" which I've been unable to achieve with other recipes. Definitely good in a pinch where I don't have any home made tortillas on hand.

Thanks, Steve…and the guy that provided the recipe. Seems brilliant and I look forward to trying it. I just bought ground psyllium husk but will look for the whole.
