This is one of the best origin movies. It's just so good. So cheesy (in a good way), so fun, and full of heart. MJ ain't that great, but the movie is still strong. The movie is a throwback to the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko classic Spidey. It's supposed to be cheesy. Rami nailed the heart of Spider-Man, and made you care about Peter before he put on the mask. Can't fucking wait to watch Spider-Man 2, one of the top tier comic book films. And I'm excited for Spider-Man 3 as well because it's not as bad as people act like it is. It's a mess at times for sure, but there's some good shit in there.

A lot of Nick's gripes with this movie have to do with Sam Raimi's directing style. The cheesiness, the crash zooms. It's all part of the package, man! And I, for one, will never leave Sam Raimi's wild ride :)

This movie will always hold a special place in my heart. Watching it for the first time, it felt like Fox Kid's "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" came to life. This movie still holds up as the best definitive origin story right under Batman Begins. This movie being set in New York so close after 9/11 made it feel even more special at the time.

I don’t mind people critiquing normally praised movies. But it can get really grating when it’s done by certain people who know little about filmmaking and writing in general. It’s almost always “I thought it sucked, it was cheesy, the writing was bad, it didn’t age well, I hated it”. I think a knowledgeable film buff would add a lot to this group. Yes certain areas of this Spider-Man trilogy are way over the top. But if you know Sam Raimi you understand his style. He enjoys hamming it up. He wanted to make a movie that’s part superhero origin, part horror movie and all fun. Some of the guys on the panel understood this. But it’s foolish to compare this film to the Marvel movies of today. Edit* - Not liking a movie doesn’t make you un-knowledgeable about film. But through the different “In review” series’ it’s obvious most of the panel are just everyday guys who like an occasional movie every now and then. Which is totally fine! What gets to me is they often bring up specific gripes and complaints that can be easily answered or debated and I just want so badly to jump in to the conversation.

I don't see how not liking how this movie was filmed or written makes you not knowledgable about film and writing? People keep pointing to Sam Raimi and being like "No, he MEANT it to be like this, so you have to like it!" It's like, no. It was a stylistic choice by the director, and they don't like those choices. That's just how it is.

Why are so many of them shitting on the first Spiderman? Spiderman 1 and 2 are excellent films and far better than anything in the MCU nowadays in my opinion. The guy on the right really pissed me off with what he was saying. The films have a real style and flare and yes I suppose certain moments can be perceived as too "cheesy", but then again this is based off a comic about a guy that gets bitten by a spider and can therefore spin webs and climb walls so..........

Not trying to say it wasn't weird, but a lot of the "cheesy/bad acting" moments weren't as awful as you're making them out to be. Even if they were a bit extreme, they weren't entirely unrealistic. I acted exactly like Peter did towards the girl I crushed on in high school. Admittedly, I was a bit creepy, but I don't think leaving at the same time walking behind a girl because you're both going in the same direction and you're too nervous to start a conversation is stalker territory. We even became kinda close friends, and she totally knew I was into her. Also, I lived next to a group of sisters who I was friends with in Elementary School but stopped talking to long before High School. Every time we saw each other, it was the same sort of "I see you every day but know nothing about you, but I also know the things no one else does". I think that's sort of what's going through MJ's head. She probably has known he liked her for a long time, and he was always there in the background. So in a way, he HAS been there the whole time and they know each other if only from those small moments. She's vulnerable at the end of the movie and she's most likely just wants companionship, knowing he's the one person who would do anything for her. Edits made for clarity.

If I had to rank them? Spider-Man 2 Spider-Man Spider-Man Homecoming Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man 3 Amazing Spider-Man 2 Also sorry have to disagree. There is no way in hell Spider-Man 1 is even in the same realm of absurdity as Batman & Robin. Was Spider-Man 1 campy? Absolutely. But it was campy in the same way Superman 78 was for it's time. In fact? Spider-Man played quite a bit of homage to the Superman film with Christopher Reeve. The scene where he is jumping across the New York skyline experimenting with his powers for the first time was a bit of a callback to the scene where Clark is racing the train. Hell, when Aunt May is in the hospital? She even remarks that Peter isn't Superman. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5LbY5Scf9KfY7M It's very clear that Raimi took a lot of inspiration from Superman 78 and I feel it's for that reason that the movie turned out as good as it was for a modern day origin story. And I thought Toby McGuire was a good fit for Peter Parker. Tom Holland is a great fit though. collider.com/sam-raimi-spider-man-changed-superhero-movies/ "Spider-Man is both a guidepost and an outlier. The state of the superhero genre today with its reliance on world-ending stakes, crossover universes, and pushing into new genres like R-rated comedy and westerns, are completely foreign to the goofy, four-color attitude present in Raimi’s film. And yet it sets the template for the superhero origin story, borrowing heavily from Richard Donner’s Superman, but also trying to straddle the line between “realistic” and corny comic books."-Collider "It’s clear that Raimi’s passion is being as unabashedly silly and corny as modern audiences will allow, and to his credit (and the credit of audiences), they went for it. Today, we see that superhero films try to be serious or realistic. They need to have weighty themes or challenge the notion of the hero’s journey. Spider-Man, unencumbered by all that baggage, is free to be a throwback to Donner’s Superman and even the 1960s Batman TV series, completely with all of Raimi’s flourishes."-Collider Even if you look at a movie like Wonder Woman? Wonder Woman had callbacks to other comic book films that came before. Diana holding the shield was a bit of a callback to Cap in the First Avenger film. When she climbs the tower to get her Sword and lasso? That scene was a callback to Raimi's Spider-Man. And in the alley she deflects a bullet from Steve Trevor which itself was another callback to Superman 78.

ok ok ok ok. Greg is denying he is Shirtless Spider-man...and I believe him.....I mean why would he lie? BUT that throws a wrench in my whole theory. So WHO IS HE!?!?!?!? hes obviously someone close to the company. I dont think its any of the IGN folk. It can't be Tim cause he is just noT crazy enough, its not Andy or Kevin cause this dude is OBVIOUSLY white. and it cant be Nick cause he hates to take his shirt off. SO, it has to be someone who has showed up recently, randomly......guys......is Johnny Ace Shirtless Spider-man?

I haven't finished the episode. However, something I think you guys are overlooking is that the movie came in a very different time. Spider-Man came out 8 months after 9/11. I think a lot of moments, like the dialogue after the burning building to the fireman mean more in that context. It can be corny now. But I think they were to illustrate the culture and unbreakable spirit of NYC.

Alejandro Segovia you’ve got seriously nostalgia blinders on if you think any of those early X-Men movies hold up and you’ve watched them recently. They’re all pretty bad until the most recent few. The first two Raimi Spider-Man movies are good but they are very stylistic and not everyone loves his style. I think he’s good but the internet overrated these movies to a ridiculous degree because of nostalgia.

You guys are doing this wrong. You keep coming back to the MCU at every chance you get. Comparing all the Xmen to the MCU every five minutes made that series a chore to get through as a viewer and I'm sure you're gonna compare each Spidey movie to the MCU whenever you talk about something that "looked bad." Have some objectivity in your opinions, for fuck's sake.

@8bitdee
@8bitdee 6 жыл бұрын
Preying Ocelot Of course they can do what they like and not listen to their audience. That's how you lose your audience, though. Look at the MCU views vs Xmen views. They go from 90K-200K views per episode to 25K-40K per episode. And the last one, Deadpool 2 has 8 fucking K. So yes, they can continue to make what they want and keep this series stale, always talking about MCU and about how much everything was worse back then because it's not MCU, and kill this series slowly. Or they can take some audience advice and keep this series fresh so it can keep going.
@preyingocelotgames4397

@@8bitdee lol views have nothing to do with what they are saying, it's just less people care about these films, when they do star Wars views will be way up. Greg would say "don't like? Don't watch" that's why I like them, they dont give into shitty demands when all they're doing is expressing their opinions.

8bitdee Worth noting too that the MCU in Review was coming out in the lead up to a major event in Infinity War whereas XCU had nothing. This series will probably get a boost in views since it's coming out around the same time as the new Spider-Man game.
