True, but the Ultras do also treat their human subjects well. They also try to minimise civilian losses but not to the extent that the Salamanders do.

Ultramarines are my favourite 40K faction. I got into 40K via the Space Marine game when Humble Bundle gave the game away free. Then I found the wiki which lead me to the Uriel Ventris novels. Since then I've been a Ultramarines fan. I have my Indomitus made to order coming, can't wait to get a proper force going. Up to now I've been using First Strike and Intercessor and Paint set models to practice. I do appreciate how good the colour scheme looks, although it takes me hours to do a single Intercessor...

I collect ultramarines and have a classic bright blue look that’s accomplished by a airbrush not as easy to paint but it’s great to have all the source material to look at

I had absolutely no desire to collect ultramarines when I started. I’ve painted like 4 different armies now. Blood angels and other chapters are actually more popular imo. So in actuality they aren’t as popular to the player base as you’d think. Look at the ultramarine subreddit, it only has 4K people in it… all the others have like close to 20k people plus… I was collecting dark angels and hated the multiple colours for their army. I wanted something better. I wanted a shooting assault army and none of the other chapters fit that role. So i decided to paint an ultramarine and OMG I loved it! Painting blue is amazing! Also it’s such a versatile army.

I bought the Indomitus box last year and then spent months agonizing about what faction I wanted to do the Space Marines as (this was going to be the start of my first Space Marine army), and now I've decided, you know what, screw it - I like blue, let's just do Ultramarines, they look good. I also play AoS, and I just really can't get into the Stormcast Eternals, so it's kind of nice to have the closest thing to the good guys in 40K be something I actually enjoy. Plus, like you said, it's a really easy color scheme to do.

Isn't Matt Ward the fifth chaos God, Why would you listen to him. But the thing is I find that people don't really hate Ultramarines themselves. they tend to dislike the meta side of the Ultramarines. the way they are pushed so hard into the forefront, taking up the majority of past codexes, boxes containing only ultramarine transfer with the models, the list can go on from there.

Ultramarines do get annoying, but I think their looks and their lore are actually pretty good. It's just GW constantly promoting them that gets frustrating. The funny thing is that because of this there aren't actually that many Ultramarines players out there it seems.

Not nearly as usable. Chapters like dark angels only use old models like terminators and raven wing. I collected it and hated all their strong models right now.

They're my chapter, I've loved them since the Horus Heresy books gave them a lot more character and interesting background.

I love to novels as well. I'm a Dark Angels player, but I've enjoyed the first book I enjoyed Guy Haley's Dark Imperiam series. Here in the states, GW pulled the 2nd book/audio novel off of Amazon's Kindle store. There is supposed to be a third novel, so I'm hoping they put it back up when they release the third...

The pulled both books off amazon UK over here 😕 no kindle or audiobook of dark imperium of plague war. I don’t know why. Maybe something to do with corona virus. I also really hope they do publish the third book and like you said, that they come back. It’s strange

I just want to say that I don't collect any space marines and play Necrons. Infact, if I made a second army, I'd probably go Orks. However, if I collected Space Marines, it would be Ultramarines, as they are the jack of all trades chapter, and since I can relate to that, I gravitate towards them...

I actually find ultramarines interesting even if I never have played or collect them and even see my time of collecting space marine as a mistake ( I did not enjoy painting power armour on tactical marines ). I mean they are flawed not perfect and have lot of personal character. Like their older lore was they followed the codex so perfectly that they even followed when it was to their disadvantage. They even allow ultramarines to fail were other chapter is successful like Calgar that was rip apart by swarm lord while Dante defeated the Swarmlord. No if you want to look at boring chapter imperial fists fit that roll much better, every time an imperial fist fan start describing why imperial fist is amazing they just give a long list of how superior they are on everything and how flawless they are. Their signum is loyal and perfect, without flaws. While their successor chapter is instead one of the coolest chapters that space marine has and they are iloyal, do not follow imperial rules or is on the extinction boarder. However this is not imperial fist fault it is the same with matt ward and ultramarines they have had some writers that just like to write bad lore fitting for a classic Saturday show were the evil guy at the end of the episode is screaming '' I will return''.

Ultras are okay. Nothing comes close to the Black Templar in my opinion. Grimaldus especially sits right at the top of my favourite character list from WH, and it is a long list (being on book 40 of the heresy saga. Incredible writing, Incredible characters, Incredible battles and Incredible legions). Grimaldus still tops the lots in my opinion

I don't have a problem with Ultramarines (my first models were badly painted Ultramarines back in forth edition. I don't like that games basicly turned to "what if" scenarios when a 1 founding chapter is played. Most chapters have 10 Companies (with only 4 battle companies, and Salamanders only have 3). There is basicly no room to have your own company in a first founding chapter and most of the time it is "what if Marneus Calgar fought there or if Guillaume fought in that battle". Advertising the 1st founding chapters would make more sense if they would have 10000 Marines with 100 Companies and still only 10 known, so people basicly would have 90 companies to create their own ones. It's the mainreason why I would most likely make my own Chapter instead. I mean, in worst case GW is killing your Company or leader in the Lore.

I was gonna say, if you think Fists were hard to paint, imagine White Scars. I painted Sarro Khan; while I loved how it came out, painting him took so much longer.

@@Kitetsu I've found the white contrast actually quite good, though I've mostly used it for bits and bobs here. Not sure how good it would be for huge panels and god forbid, even tanks.

Kitetsu I actually used the lightest grey there was to paint the White Scars. Then use true white to add highlights. It works better and looks better too.

Ultramarines were my First Army that I started fully collecting though i wanted to branch out a bit and decide to Paint my Indomitus Box set to be Silver Templars a Ultramarine Successor chapter that Seem like cool Chapter

@@Kitetsu silver templars aren't that hard to paint though you might have trouble with the Yellow Shoulder Pads basically they are all silver expect Chest piece where the Aquila is, is black and the Shoulder pads are yellow with Black Trim

I'm not a fan of Primarchs returning. They cant die so the entire presence of them feels deflating. Its turning the setting into Marvel/WWE. All the main characters just fight, never die and that's it. I remember seeing end of avengers pt.1 where everyone died... except you know it's a movie industry and Meta knowledge keeps me from caring. Same with Primarchs. It's why that Calgar vs Abaddon fight was so lame. I knew no one would die and no one did and the reason was lame.

I mean, to be fair they literally just brought out the new Calgar and Abaddon model. It would literally suck if they permanently killed them off. And as it was.... they made Calgar crippled for life. And as for primarchs not being able to die: plenty of them are permanently dead. Roboute was never dead he was in stasis. 😁😁

@@Kitetsu You're right but the point about them just bringing out models is part of the point, the meta of model releases and focus on special characters means they were constrained in the story they could tell. Now if it was Black Legion mook vs random captain, then you wouldn't know who would win, then you could write a story where there was an absolute winner, as it stands you really can't do that.

I started off with dark angels.... then went to deathwatch.... then space wolves.... then imperial fists then ultramarines 😁😁😁. But yeah. Basically I couldn’t get the space wolves looking like on the box so I switched. It’s all about getting the models to look right to begin with for me.

I liked you Kitetsu, I really did. So why did you have to glorify the embodiment of everything wrong with Games Workshops model. There's enough Space Marine players out there, don't make propoganda to try and create more.
