@AaronDarkus5 жыл бұрын
Why the developers would have decided to use a cube for collisions?. To make fights against dinosaurs a little more "difficult" (since now they can have more opportunities to damage you) by increasing the size of the hitbox?.
@Silanda3 жыл бұрын
@@AaronDarkus Probably because everything's governed by a physics engine that largely relies on interaction between cubes, and trying to implement a separate bipedal walking and IK simulation for the player on top of an already janky physics system would likely have been a mess. Just look at how bizarre some of the dinosaur movements are and imagine that the player moved in the same way.
Trespasser would make for such a good film in the franchise! Trying to survive on site b mixed with the run down buildings/tech from ingens secrets and the dinos could work so well

Amazing let's play so far! Though the only feedback I would give you is to play this with the trescom community patch which fixes some of the bugs and gives an option for the raptors to actually jump at you like they should. The game at launch was unifinished and the patch allows some of those lost features to be enabled once again. If not for this let's play I highly recommend you to replay this game on your own with the community patch installed and perhaps some other mods. Having a group of raptors jump at you is honestly terrifying and it is an experience everyone should have while playing this game! Even still, loving your content and keep up the great work! It's so good to give a forgotten game like Trespasser some exposure. Ps. Bunny hopping, as in smash that jump key so damn much, on the hills and little slopes helps a lot when getting around becomes more tricky because of the terrain.

@kosztaz874 жыл бұрын
Correct me if I am wrong, but that mentioned patch where you can activate Raptor jumps, is a different one called Trespasser ATX. And the mod in these videos is the Trespasser CE mod. In the ATX mod you have more features, but horrid graphics and framerate (at least for me), while the CE mod is amazingly smooth with much improved drawing distance and generally improved visuals. At least this is what I know. I really wanted to experience jumping Raptors, but that ATX mod runs like absolute crap on my system, and couldn't put up with the pixelated graphics, and objects transitioning from a 2d pile of pixels into 3D fom like 15 feet in front of me.

I don't remember the game running particularly badly in the late 90s/early 00s, when I played it, and I didn't have a super advanced computer. I had a Windows 95 (or rather my parents did), and that wasn't even a super-new computer at the time. It's not considered a bad game because of that, it's because the controls are bad, the in game physics (which was way to ambitious for the time) didn't work well, the puzzles were dumb and often didn't work right, and the way you control Anne makes no sense. I remember stacking boxes being a huge pain in the ass. You'll see the problems on full display when it comes time for Anne to enter numbers on a key pad. Despite a lot of those problems which arguably make it a broken game, I still remember being immersed. It's a great guilty pleasure that I still come back too once every few years, though nowadays I come back to it more in the form of playthroughs like these than actually playing it.
@Asaylum1175 жыл бұрын
You know. The more I look at this game, the more I wish people could actualy make a great survival horror game based off of dinosaurs. Instead of crappy jumpscares, have the dinosaurs act like real animals and make the carnivore dinosaur encounters frightening, like in Tresspaser and give the player some low ammo count when fighting back. I am sick and tired of run and hide mechanics modern survival horror games have nowdays. It can be scary at first, but the more you play these kind of games, the more tedious they become. :/

Yeah, thing I love about Tresspasser is that you can fight back, but it's not guaranteed that you will come out on the top. Far more scary than games where you just run and hide, you know, because you have to be able to beat the game, so the monsters can't just instantly catch you, but when you have ammo, it's not so sure.

I played this game back in the day maybe a year after it came out with a minimum system requirements PC at 166Mhz and it did struggle, but was still playable. I upgraded to a 500Mhz PC with a 3DFX Voodoo3 shortly after, and was blown away with how smooth it ran. With those specs it ran like a dream, though I've since forgotten how much memory either PC had. I spent an absurd amount of time playing and re-playing this game. I had multiple saves all across the island so I could explore and try to decipher every bit of lore the game might have hidden away, even trying to find out if there was any meaning in what were probably just random props the developers scattered around. I even had a few saves where I took the time to find and organize every single physical item, including raptor corpses, across all levels into neat rows and piles (which I still have screenshots of). I know it is broken and has some issues with canon, but my gosh was it ambitious and interesting! I still have the original box and CD, and despite its problems, it still holds a very special place in my heart as one of my favorite games of all time due to how it pulled me into its world and made me feel. I don't know if it will ever be possible for me to re-capture that childhood wonder and first experience with something like this ever again, but watching you play through it for the first time has made those memories re-emerge. I had it running on 3dFX/open GL at 800x600 resolution and maybe 32 megs of ram. Ran alright with the video card, but maybe around 30 fps. I remember hearing about how the A.I. in the game was meant to run in a simulation type of manner. Where it would be hungry, and they would hunt other dinos, and others would be docile, or run away. The way they tried to integrate it, caused the dinos to have errors and bug out and stuff. I remember being a little disappointed but awed by the graphics and how good it looked. The game lacked in some ways but was really cool in others. I wish they remade this now.

21:29 I mean it could be a game glitch but considering film fans I would suspect it is. Which is one hell of a easter egg if you ask me. It'd be really cool to have Trespasser remade and have the Monolith there and if you touch it you get a mind trip scene like David Bowman at the end of the movie.

the part in Hammond's memoirs where he talks about only a few species were able to adapt to the modern world makes total sense [ to a point ]. I mean oxygen levels were much, much higher than they are today and that was a major contributing factor to animal growing so large. A tyrannosaur or sauropod would struggle to get enough oxygen today. In reality the only dinosaurs that would've easily adapted would have most likely been triceratops sized or smaller. unless somehow as they grew from hatch-lings there bodies were able to adapt to the lower oxygen levels.

The game took a lot to lead. I remember playing with my dad and then our computer would start making a lot of noises. I would say, "something must be coming dad! Is it John Hammond talking or a raptor?!"
