The Klim Carlsbad jacket and pants are your go-to for hardcore, hot weather riding. Constructed using burly FPL400 fabric, and reinforced with 500D Karbonite Ripstop, the Carlsbad combo is ready for action. A Gore-Tex performance shell delivers time-honored performance, and SCOTCHLITE™ C790 carbon black material adds visibility for night rides. Armor is D3O CE Level 2 throughout. (Armor is included for knees/hips and shoulders/elbows/back.) Additional features include YKK zippers, Klimatek™ cooling mesh liners, and a jacket-to-pant zipper integration system to make a Carlsbad suit.

I have the earlier version. Rode in it through the nastiest weather. Snow and pouring rain to the artic sea in Canada. It kept me warm and dry the entire trip. A couple of slow speed falls and no damage done to the jacket. I Highly recommend it.

According to Klim, the Gortex in this jacket is there performance level which is the same as the Latitude jacket not the Badlands which is another layer. I think they call that Gortex pro. FYI

Good review I starting to regret that I was buying the gen before when it was on sale before Christmas. Haven’t use it yet at least one or two months before you can ride here in sweden

I only will be riding on the road, but I really like that this comes w/ the level 2 body armor. Good pick? or not. Newbie open to suggestions. I just got my Arai Helmet. Wanna do this right.

This isn't a heated jacket, but you could wear the Carlsbad jacket and pants over a Firstgear heated jacket liner and heated pants liner. -DrewZilla *bit.ly/Klim_CarlsbadJacket

I have both the jacket and the pants. Jacket is awesome. Pants not so much. They have, good ventilation, solid waterproofing. Top of the line knee armor pocket is sewn in wrong; as a result the armor protects the inside of your knee. When you look at the construction of the garment it’s pretty obvious that the placement is an error. Klim support basically told me that they did this intentionally so they would not correct the issue. If you intend to use separate knee armor these pants will be fine but if you want to use the D30 that comes with the pants you should look somewhere else. The armor placement makes it useless. For a company with a reputation as good as klim's the customer service is horrible.

Is the badlands jacket lighter than the baja s4? It's hard to justify the baja s4 which is only $50 cheaper, but isn't waterproof and has level 1 armor. Any other differences between the two? Thanks.

I assume you meant the Carlsbad Jacket in your comment, as the Badlands Pro is nearly double the cost of the Baja S4. The Carlsbad is slightly heavier than the Baja S4 just based on how much mesh the Baja S4 uses, but its not really a noticeable amount once you are wearing the jacket and the weight is spread across your whole upper body. The Baja S4's biggest advantage and why it is near the Carslbad in price is because it is fully stretch across the whole jacket. It also uses Schoeller Mesh that is very abrasion resistant and therefor costly to use in manufacturing. Looking at this or the Latitude for wearing with a KTM Super Adventure. The off-road bias you gave this jacket kind of turned me off, is it really an off-road biased jacket primarily?

Yes it is if you're looking for more road base get the latitude

While it is more focused on combined on- and off-road adventure riding, it can certainly be used for full on-road riding as well. If you want the CE Level 2 armor instead of Level 1 with the Latitude, then go for the new Carlsbad. Just a heads-up. I’ve been a Klim customer for over fifteen years. Very good gear, but frustratingly incompetent customer service and warranty. Unless you don’t care about that feature of Klim’s business model, stay away from them! And don’t expect to get Carlsbad gear in anything but regular size until 2021, and it’s not sized similar to their Latitude gear.
