David and I knows that this weekend will be crowded up in local mountains here in SoCal so we picked a less popular trail to continue training for some mountaineering skills. Acorn Trail is such a challenge for anyone who wants to try to climb Mt Baldy, Pine Mountain or Dawson Peak thru the North Backbone Traverse side. It's closed to being vertical, direct and strenuous of all approach towards Baldy. The trailhead is located in the private retreat center, the Saint Edward Retreat Center. The parking is limited and they ask for donation instead of parking fee. From parking you still have to hike half a mile to reach the proper trial head marker. This is the trail the PCTeers take to get down to the town of Wrightwood and resupply.
This day was cold, windy and rainy. By the time we reach 600ft of elevation gain, the terrain becomes so icy and dangerous for us to traverse the mountain. We decided to call it and we head down to safety. It was a fun day nevertheless. We had some great Mexican food at Mexico Linda Restaurant, we never went home empty-handed after all.
