You are justifying Konami's disregard for the player, lack of decency and utter dishonesty, by saying they are " a business". And you actually say this in one short sentence, like that's all there is to it. By doing so, you make it sound like raping babies would be justified, as long as a business is doing it for money, since it is a business. That is why I answer a very short answer, like yours. The entire Kojima/Konami saga and the way it affected both MGSV and the people who worked on it really bums me out, but it puts a smile on my face to know Kojima can now move on from eternally making Metal Gear sequels to do something new, just as he's clearly wanted to for a long time. You're finally free buddy. :)
@SirBlackReeds5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, he didn't move on to FMV-style games. Seriously, when you think about it, the ever-rising length of the cutscenes in games he's worked on, Death Stranding being the possible pinnacle, it's all a sign that he's using video game development to fill the void he has from not being a filmmaker. The man should have tried making a game similar to Quantic Dream's library. Instead he appears to be giving us a playable movie, and not in a good way.

Konami's new CEO decides that mobile gaming is where the profit is and cuts Kojima loose while still holding onto MGS for a cash cow (Metal Gear Survive anyone?) Once again, corporate greed ruins good things.
@Titleknown9 жыл бұрын
You know, the fact that Konami is able to essentially sit on classic gaming IP with nobody able to do anything about it despite how much value they have to the medium's history and how many artist's would be willing to take a crack at them is exactly what is wrong with the current copyright system regarding art & derivitive works and which is why I think there needs to be a nonprofit to buy up works that're of more value to other artists taking a shot at them to their current rightsholders and release them into the public domain. Hell, I could even name ten of those works from the gaming medium that such a hypothetical organization would target, one from a different console to make it a challenge!
@kayobidragoon85509 жыл бұрын
+Thomas Johnson Now, don't get me wrong, I believe you man, but I actually would like to hear those works from you. I actually had a similar discussion with some friends a few days ago, but we couldn't recall very many of said Titles.
@Titleknown9 жыл бұрын
+Kayobi Dragoon Welp, I actually made a list of over ten if you can believe it, tho keep in mind I kept 'em to the IPs one could plausibly acquire (Hence the lack of Konami games) and there's a whooooole lot more games on each console I'd want to do that for too: The list would be The Guardian Legend (NES), Decap Attack (Genesis), Ninja Baseball Bat Man (Arcade), Swordquest (Atari), Gotcha Force (Gamecube), Blinx The Time Sweeper (Xbox), Skyblazer (SNES), Thrill Kill (PS1), Rocket: Robot on Wheels (N64), Illbleed (Dreamcast), Gitaroo Man (PS2), Trip World (Game Boy), Metal Walker (Game Boy Color), Car Battler Joe (Game Boy Advance), Jazz Jackrabbit (PC), Popful Mail (Sega CD), Dragonstomper (Starpath Supercharger), Kolibri (Sega 32X), and Cho Aniki (Turbografix CD) So, what do you think of the ones I'd choose as a start for each console? Creating a nonprofit like that is something I dream of doing someday...

+ThunderClapClide Long story short. Sega screws up with the Saturn being better for 2D than 3D and by releasing the console early without telling anyone, alienating 3rd party developers. Just as 3rd party developers were getting used to the Saturn, Sega kills it and releases the dreamcast too early to be able to actually compete with the rest of the 6th generation consoles, making it more of a competitor against the PSX and the N64. The Dreamcast was Sega's last hope to get back into the top of console business, but after its failure and the Saturn they couldn't continue as a console manufacturer.

Reminder that Kojima hadn't released a game in years before he was ousted, and even had to drop a project, Metal Gear Rising, which was mostly made by Platinum. Bad as Konami's crackdown on employees and restructuring sounds, it wouldn't be fair to exclude Kojima from blame. Releasing games is important and Kojima's ambition and development expenses cost Konami, with MGS5 arguably being rushed out the door with its final release. A business needs to have products to ship, not just lofty dreams that cost more than they earn.

I mentioned this as well. The problem is two-fold and were only hearing one side: and that's Kojima's. He apparently also had a close relationship with former Konami management which meant special treatment despite the cost it took to run Kojima Productions. Since Konami is a family business, they removed the old president and hired Takuya Kozuki, the chairman’s son. There's always more to a story than there's told and I personally believe that Hideo Kojima thought himself "above the law" in terms of his place at Konami. The new management made changes and he needed to fall in line. He didn't want to so he left. But you also can't hemorrhage a company by using its PR to make yourself look good and not produce anything for 6 years and tell the upper management to wait. Also? I don't know if I believe what he says about the treatment of their employees since that information only came from one news source and none of the other claims ever went to any other news outlet except the Nikkei. Oftentimes, when that's the case, it's usually not true. If it were, this story would have been shopped around from other former employees to other news outlets.

I agree with this to a degree, but konami can't expect kojima to singlehandedly earn their income. They know what kind of developer he is. If they needed money fast they should have put out more mobile games or something

Nice vid. I like the show's formula, it's professional looking... I'd really like to learn unheard stuff about the rise and the fall of Sunsoft, one day. They used to be prominent in the 8bits era, until they lost all their movie licenses and focused on developing RPGs like Albert's Odyssey which never hit american/eu soil before fading to obscurity at the end of 4th console generation.

I think that their biggest mistake was to cancel P.T. That Demo/Teaser was fucking epic,is like giving a child a small of a really good candy just to tell him that the rest is gone,to be honest I resented that so much,it made me feel bad.

So many hypocrites in the comment section. As if Metal Gear was single handedly responsible for making Konami a video game juggernaut. What about Castlevania? Contra? Silent Hill? Gradius? Konami was a great company but they have to adapt with the times. At the end it is still a business. Kojima was way in over his head going completely over budget on MGSV and the end result was something he took his sweet time on and still didn't finish the final product.
@SolidShepard9 жыл бұрын
you know instead of blaming kojima, maybe Konami should've taken a long hard look at themselves. most game studios have 2 or 3 IPs that they have going, meaning a new game will release every year to every other year making money while the others are in development. it's their own dam fault they put all their eggs into the mgs basket. and the fact that the mobile games could barely slow down the dip in yearly sales income tells me that just won't cut it. soon they will be selling the mgs copyrights just to make some quick cash.....and I bet kojima studios buys it.

When you are a publicly traded company, your duty is to your creditors and shareholders. This means that profit (money) does become your end goal. Regardless of whether we like it or not, this is how they should operate. Whether or not this strategy is viable going forward is unknown, but the top is accountable for performance and making returns on investment.

I finally understand why konami did fire Kojima now thanks SSFF.from what i understand Konami fire kojima because they can't take the risk, Kojima need lots of money to make games which worried Konami since they afraid MGS5 won't reach its target,add on many pirating, kojima start to go aggressive to avoid MGS5 from being pirated, which make didn't have much freedom, then kojima leave konami and work with Sony, meanwhile konami tried to keep up with their sales after the very successful game in 2015 and try to take as little risk as possible on producing their mobile games.and now 2016.comments if i miss some point

Why is everyone content with corporations excuse being that they're making money? If that's legitimate, then so is the audience justified in saving money & not spending it. Companies & corporations were created to ease creativity and production, not to "make money". Making money is not necessarily a valid measure of productivity.
@polarbear2428 жыл бұрын
Holy fucking shit man, spot on comment. Money is system of measurement like inches, yards, miles, hours, etc. and it is used to measure wealth. Don't get me wrong, it's a highly useful method of accounting which removes a lot of the complications of bartering. But we live in a crazy, psychotic age where people and companies, prefer to have money instead of wealth. To quote Alan Watts, they're "eating the menu instead of the dinner". When the goal is to make video games, the results are things like the MGS series. When the goal is to make money the result is MG: Survive.

Fuckin hate Konami they just went the same way as EA, all about greed and laziness, hoping to break big into the mobile-phone gaming market just because of cheap, crappy and lazy phone games. I honestly wish they would go under purely because of how they treated Hideo Kojima.

I wish Sony was able to at least buy the FOX Engine from Cunt-nomi. Its sad to see such a great engine that so much time was put into just lay in waste while they make fucking pachinko machines.
@hassanalzaher38939 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Cossey Don't worry my friend, SONY has a great game engine, and more importantly great programmers and engineers that Konagi could never dream of. Remember that SONY are the company that designed the Playstation itself and yes SONY programmers are the best to optimise any game for the Playstation. And I don't thing the FOX engine was any better that its competitors, it was at the time of MGS5 and until now, at its initial level needs to be further improve and tuned multiple of times as Kojima already told about the engine. In short, in my opinion, SONY studios lack creative minds, but rich in all supportive means i.e. Kojima is in the perfect place now.

Some people write 10 stories, some people write 50, 100 well crafted stories. Hideo Kojima puts balls to the wall nonsensical plot twist and shonen anime quality writing in his work and hes considered one of the best writers of all time. Beautiful.

I wondering how much it costs konami to produce a game like MGSV that need them to sell more than 5 million to break even. In my opinion, kojima's leaving is good for both parties, kojima & konami. For the long run, the high cost demanding consule game would kill Konami as well in future, which they are have not that financial capabilities to support every project that costing money like MGSV. As for Kojima, forming a new studio and a partnership with Sony, would better off for him too.

Konami would have been so rich if they continued with the Silent Hills game but the fact that they cancelled it and Kojima left sucks ass. Silent Hills could have changed gaming industry forever especially since VR is becoming a new thing. So unfortunate.
