These are also tracked vehicles, though--just with a humanoid upper body. I won't say battlemechs are impossible, but you need to somehow justify that massive target profile. If we see sci-fi mecha of any sort, I would expect powered suits: the one advantage such tech might have over a MBT is the smaller size and target profile--such a concept might be useful for anti terrorist warfare or occupations in hotspots with civilians (situations like Iraq come to mind).
