Wish I'd see this video before making the same mistake, I ended up buying later a 240x64 LCDs at BuyDisplay and I'm very satisfied with it, bright and crispy!

Replaced my K2000 display last summer ,but didn´t know about the benefit of getting rid of the high voltage screen,with the risk of the high pitched tone (which i once had on a Korg 01 W/FD).Thanks for that information!

I have a black k2000 and my screen is completely dim, did you replace it with the LED? I think that older screen was Electroluminescent lighting

After upgrading to LED backlight, you must remove EL inverter parts to make the K2000 completely silent. These parts are the driver transistor Q25 and the EL transformer next to the J21 connector.

Hmm, mine is dead silent now... with no AC wire plugged into the board. Is removing these parts you mention necessary? I wonder if they can be removed from the top of the circuit board. I don't feel like pulling the boards out, and apart... lol.

@@HankCoffey That is for a LED backlight mod. In your video, you were replacing the EL backlight. Desoldering these components will not allow the K2000 to get the 100 volts necessarry for the backlight. FYI- it looked like your backlight was flipped the other way around. When I installed my backlight, I had mine flipped the wrong way, and it appeared to be not working. Flipping it the right way around (white/sliver side up) fixed the issue for me.

@@HankCoffey Haha nice. Just thought it would be worth a mention here as my EL backlight looked identical, however I didn't buy it from the same seller. It is strange that it didn't work right away if that was the intended way for the backlight to be used. Thinking about retrofitting a LCD display into mine as well since these EL backlights aren't as bright as what I would have hoped. But, they were only a couple of dollars so I'm not out a whole lot of money.

@@iMacJames The color LCD is worth it. It's hard to get them to show up in a camera. But they look great.

I’ve replaced 3 different K2000 backlights and only 1 was acceptable. The better solution is to completely change out the display.

Question is too complicated to answer on here, there are too many variables. Make sure the Kurzweil floppy is formatted to FAT16. I recommend joining a Kurzweil group on Facebook for the question. I never tinker with my hardware keyboards anymore. So I forget tech info. Unless I am using the keyboard at the moment.

I got my display from eBay seller Saint_baz. You can eBay search K2000 display, one of his listings should show up. People in a K2000 group are getting theirs from backlightsonline (dot) com. That seems to be a US supplier.

Hello given your experience if possible I would like to ask you a question: I have a Kurzweil K.2000 VP 3.87, the keyboard (the keys) are however very "soft" when I touch the sound, I ask if it is possible to replace the keys with other semi-weighted ones, for example for example with those like Yamaha DX7II fd, Korg 01W, or with other brands; thanks if you want to answer me.

Most of these keyboards have keybeds made by Fatar. You'll have to research which model Fatar is in the keyboards. And go from there.

This is good info, would have even been better if i didnt go through all that and read this when i first looked at it. What a twist. i checked to see if there was a tutorial before i bought it but usually dont actually follow the tutorial until i got the thing (unless i see a big red flag waving kinda warning). just so im clear im not directing a single bit of blame at you i dont want to be misunderstood -- im seeing an opportunity if you want to put a dent in this dip shit dudly dealer you are the first sto pon the highway to it. hope you can use it to your advantage.. and for me at least i know its not something i did. If you can think of something to add on to your title it might at least help the next guy. Im not even sure if this is really a backlight, or just laminated cardboard. I knew i should have just got the white on black upgrade.
