It's probably the least of its problems but I thought it was weird that the title of the game is Concord and not Free Gunners. They kept saying Free Gunners during the gameplay part and I think it's a bit catchier sounding than Concord. The title and logo they're going with would look more at home on a slide showing development tools like Blender and Unreal Engine than it does alongside other games.

Helldivers have its own identity. I am not into multiplayer games at all but I don't think there is any other multiplayer shooter like helldivers. That's why people liked it. But Concord really looks like generic Overwatch clone that tries to mimic same success with same formula. I don't think it will be as big as helldivers.

I think we should be real that while Helldivers 2 is a good game, it also got something of an unpredictable fad-based boost that it didn't necessarily earn through complete merit, either. And this is a huge problem for these live service games - it's not all some meritocracy, and there's not always a lot to learn about other successes because they didn't reach the mega success status simply because of the amazing things it was doing, but because it simply was in the right place in the right time to turn into a fad.

Many clones were made but they died and one remains. The hero shooter had its own loop with Overwatch with prompting Battleborn, Lawbreakers, etc etc and they all died with own one remaining. The new loop begins because Blizzard then promptly through themselves off the cliff giving rise to a new loop of horseshit clones to try and take the throne.

It takes years to makes these games, and so this title (like others) were most likely green-lit as early as 2018. As soon as Sony invested the money back then and put the team together, that was it. Either follow thru or cancel and loose all that money...... they apparently did not feel brave enough to pull a Square Enix and squash deep into development projects over marketability. I would not be surprised if Sony - and even the people involved in making the game - know this turd isn't going to flush, but they are going to grin and eject this thing to a overstated market anyway. It _IS_ Sony after-all.... and you might remember they did something similar with Drawn2Death (David Jaffes' hero-shooter service title). This is like that, or a 2K Battleborn situation all over again: where they decided to release something they had already planned bon day one was not going to be supported. 🤷‍♂

the acquisitions for Firewalk, Firesprite, and Haven are going to end up being some of the worst wastes of money in the history of this industry. the only good one will end up being Housemarque and, no offense to the devs at those three studios, but Sony will realize they would've been better investing that money into fostering better relationships with, or outright acquiring (maybe through collaboration, as they're trying to do with Paramount right now), bigger publishers like Capcom or Bandai Namco. just a horrible wash of a generational strategy. if they don't learn to pivot quickly before the PS6, and Hulst's promotion makes that seem unlikely, they'll be in dire straits.

I work in post-pro, specifically I create ads for dealerships or reskin assets provided by OEMs. I can 100% confirm the videos of cars in the "Jeep" game are Running Footage shot and provided by the OEMs themselves, not from like a smaller dealership or even car enthusiasts. Their single player games aren't very profitable anymore. And they are taking longer to make. Meanwhile the majority of people on their console are just playing games like Fortnite or CoD at this point. So Sony have been desperate for their own Fortnite or Overwatch type of success to bolster their first party revenue and fill out the gaps in their singleplayer lineup. It's why they bought Bungie, Haven and Firewalk.

They were worth more than their sales figures, because they were why people invested in a Playstation in the first place. And then those people go onto to buy other games on Playstation which Sony takes a cut from EACH ONE. And THAT is where they make the money. This idea that the single player games need to all make a ton of money on their own is something fairly new, in this more greedy era.
