My very thought. And just because you wear face products and care about your skin, hair and focus on the superficial, that doesn't mean you don't have a toxic masculinity. There are countless gay men with a serious toxic masculinity issue. And then there are other gay men who don't use those products or don't care about their image that much and don't have a toxic masculinity at all. Those are clichés that don't always match.

Here are my lists, a tad heavier than Kyle’s! Worst: * Rejection by family or friends or discrimination * Societal presumption of heterosexuality (heteronormativity) and always needing to come out, and always proceeding with caution with new people until you can determine whether it’s safe to come out to them * Stymied romantic development in adolescence (as Kyle said) * Feeling scared to hold your partner’s hand in public or show any affection in case a homophobe is watching * Invasive questions from straight people such as “who’s the man and who’s the woman in the relationship?” Best: * We can more easily connect and empathize with both men and women in different/unique ways. * We didn’t have narratives about what love and romance should look like spoon-fed to us. While some role models and mainstream representation would be good, many of us were never told what love “should” look like. This can be very liberating in adulthood. * DINK (double income, no kids- an old saying that’s somewhat outdated as more gay couples have kids but there’s still a lot who dont) * Having resilience and courage. Going through the challenges I mentioned above builds character (if you can survive it, that is, which many don’t). * FUN! LGBTQ culture is colorful, fun, fabulous, exciting, thrilling, and more. There’s so much to explore under the surface that many straight people just don’t have access to or can’t appreciate.

I think it’s best to note that not everyone who is gay thinks and feels this way. We’re all one people but have different experiences, perspectives, likes/dislikes, etc. While I do identify with a lot of these things, I know so many gay men who don’t. And that’s totally fine. I just want people to know that if you do not 100% identify with these things that you are completely normal and there’s no “definition” of what makes a “gay man”.

Great video. I completely understand when it comes to body hair, especially back hair (ewwww). Literally, when I was in my 20s, I would use razors, Nair, Veet...etc. However, at the age of 30, last year I discovered waxing. And now I see my esthetician every month to 6 weeks for a wax, and I will never use a razor or any of the hair removal creams again. At first, waxing was a bit painful, however now.... it feels great.

It’s so tough because so many gay spaces are surrounded by sex and alcohol (i.e. dating apps and gay bars), but it is possible! I would recommend volunteering for LGBTQIA+ organizations and charities in your area. Non-profits are always looking for volunteers, you make a difference in your community and simultaneously make long lasting connections. I work closely with lots of queer non-profits and I’ve made lots of friends that way!

One thing I strongly agree wwith Kyle on is that gay men's inability to live their adolescence at the right time causes terrible psychological damage to us. The earlier we can come out and live our lives out in the open, have crushes, have boyfriends etc aged 15, the better adjusted we will all be. We really on straight people, i.e. our families for that.

I didn't say these things don't exist within the gay community. They exist in every space that human beings occupy. I said they aren't unique to gay people and therefore nonsensical to list as reasons to hate being gay as these things would be a reality whatever orientation you were.
